Answer to the second puzzle,

Alexander is a short man and his hand could not reach more than the 26th floor button but on a rainy day he has his umbrella with him, thus he could press the 28th floor button with it

In my defense, I didn't know that either. I thought there was actually only one hole but now that I think about it, of course there should be more than one. Still wouldn't have guessed 18 though
