The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, on Friday said as far as the forthcoming general elections were concerned, politicians from the Northern part of the country had miscalculated.

Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), a Northerner, is contesting against President Goodluck Jonathan (a Southerner) of the Peoples Democratic Party in the march 28 presidential election.

Okupe, who spoke to journalists in Abuja, said the Northern politicians got it wrong because they erroneously believed that a national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, is the leader of the Yoruba race and that he could deliver the South-West to his party.

He said while doing that, the North left out some of the people that really mattered in the zone, whom he described as the North’s former allies.

He said, “The North has always had partnership in the South—in the South-West, South-South and South-East.

“But somehow, the North miscalculated this time around because they assumed wrongly that Bola Tinubu was the leader of the Yoruba race, and that if they can strike a deal with him, they have got the South-West.

“While doing that, they left their former allies that included Gen. Adeyinka Adebayo, Richard Akinjide, Olunloyo and others.”

Okupe said even if Buhari wins the presidential election, which he said was impossible, the North would still lose out.

He said if Buhari wins, he would not be able to do second term, therefore giving room for a Southerner to again emerge as the President in 2019.

He wondered if the North would be satisfied with only four years when they could have their full eight years from 2019.

Okupe said, “Even if Buhari wins this election, which is impossible, he cannot do a second term.

“So, when the second term comes, why would other people not contest against him? He is a Northerner and if he cannot run for election again, then, the thing should go back to the South. So, would the North be satisfied with only four years?

“These are the issues. That is why I am saying this 2015 election is beyond Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari. It is a matter of national stability.”

For once, Bastard Okugbe is taking an issue based item to debate. Though belated, nonetheless, let's examine the credit or lack thereof of this postulation.

He mentioned some gentlemen as traditional allies of the north who were more likely to deliver the South West and that Tinubu was the least likeliest to do that.
Well, even the men he mentioned endorsed Buhari. This is because Jonah stinks to the high heavens so badly nobody worth his name in Yorubaland wants to be associated with the putrid brand.
The band of out of favor past leaders dining and wining with Jonah do so with huge layers of lavender to down the smell from Jonah.
And at home, know that these so called Afenifere rejects have no family honors to defend. As gutter people,we have no qualms allowing them into lepers colonies. Someone gotta feed the lepers too nah.
Besides, the Yoruba race is a fiercely independent one. Our intellect cuts through self servicing interest like hot knife through butter.
You cannot deceive us.

I don't bother reading trash from this fat cretin anymore. Jonathan promised not to contest again yet greed and lust for power took the better of the fool even after failing woefully. Why should the North now trust Jona.daft over Tinubu??

Okupe is not a boy. He's one of the shameless men trying to deceive us into re-electing a failed government using different avenues such as fake "transformation" pictures and day to day propaganda. Only gullible people will fall for PDPs bag of tricks at this cricual moment.

This designated ugly fat folk is an empty skull. What happened when jonathan suddenly makes a u turn on agreement he signed with the pdp leaders that he was only contesting for 4 years ?

Only death can stop incumbent president from contesting for 2nd term in Nigeria but the chance of winning depends on your good work. Gej has failed and he will be voted out come march.

Speak for your party and desist from pokenosing.

What gives you the assurance that janathan would last for 8 yrs if re-elected ? What also gives you the assurance that you as a person will see the light of 2moro ?

Many things to ponder about....

To a large extent, i agree with Dr. Doyin. If Buhari should ever win the election, the odds will be stacked against the Northerners, just as they were months leading to Yaradua's demise. It is a situation no right thinking Northerner would ever like to be in after Yaradua's experience. Honestly, the situation does warrant a bit strategic thinking. Because this would have them again on a colllision course with the Yoruba nation, over succession ( like during Abacha's tenure) either midway or after the first tenure of Buhari.

Tinubu, on the one hand, is not an Awololwo. The Awo clout and aura are largely missing in his personality with the likes of Gen. Adebayo, Akinjide etc. not signing up to his vision. This surely indicates that the Yoruba Nation have not taken a mono stand on this election. It is also in the interest of some far-sighted Yorubas to treat the minority Ijaw fairly in this life-time chance they had to occupy the presidency even as GEJ resolves the issues they complained about in his second term.

Intersting times....

APC minions always like to insult people. I can see them trooping out without brushing their teeth.

Is Tinubu the leader of the Great Yoruba Race ?

It is an insult for people to even think the Great Yoruba Race is led by a corrupt, drug pusher with forged Toronto certificate.

Please the Yoruba race should not be belittled to this level. I respect Yorubas a lot, Tinubu is NOT qualified to lead the Oduduwa People.

The Gods and Elders of Oduduwa Race have blessed Jonathan with their staff of office.

Oduduwa is with GEJites.

The northern stakeholders have realised the FRAUDULENT game plan of the JagaBandit of Thief'nuibu cabal hence they have decided it is better to support Jonathan now for a payback in 2019, which will ensure peace & stability for the whole country.

No more no less.

The main challenge is how to DETONATE the bunch of blood thirsty almajiris ready to kill our youth corpers and innocent civilians again as they did in 2011.
