Today's Feature: Money Saving Tips for Buying Electronics

Tip #1 -- Do your research
Before you venture out into any stores do your research and know what you want. Do you want a plasma or LCD screen TV? How much storage do you really need on a new computer? How many pixels should your new camera have?

By educating yourself before you start shopping, you know what features your new electronic gadgets needs to have. You know what's important to you, and what's not, and you can do without.

When you arm yourself information, you don't fall prey to sales people who try to up sell you products and special features you just don't need. Do your research and be aware of this before you start shopping.

Tip #2 -- Extended warranties
We live in a throw away world. Combine that with the fact that most of our electronics are reliable and you just don't need to spend the extra money on extended warranties. Beware of stores who try to sell you one large package warranty of things you probably won't need. Most of the services included in these warranties like tech support and free online backup for computers are better if you buy them as needed.

If you use American Express and other gold or premium cards many of these automatically double the warranty that comes with the electronic. Check the details of your credit card and see if you have one that automatically offers you these benefits and don't buy the store extended warranty.

Tip #3 -- Follow the crowd
You will find that the best deals of the year when buying electronics is on the "frantic" shopping days like Black Friday. You may not want to brave the crowd, but if you're willing, you'll find some of the best possible deals.

Tip #4 -- Haggle
Most people walk into their local electronics store, look at the price tags and pay the full amount. What they don't know is that the store is willing to "haggle" and will often lower the price if they know they can make a sale.

Ask to speak to the manager and give him the price you are willing to pay. You will be pleasantly surprised how often they will lower the price.

Tip #5 -- Ratings
Before you make any decisions about which brand of electronics you need, research and review all the models available. When you find a company that repeatedly gets high scores in quality, you can be sure that your electronic will have that same high quality.

Once you decide which new electronic you need, do your research, check the ratings, shop the sales, avoid expensive add-ons, and don't be afraid to haggle. By following these helpful tips, you can be sure you're getting the best deal when you're buying electronics

Today's feature: Common Myths About Germs -- Busted

Myth #1 -- You'll get sick from the germs on public toilet seats
This myth seems to have started back in the days of the syphilis scare. It's true that syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease and is contagious through sexual contact, but not from your public restroom.

Instead of worrying about sitting on a public toilet seat, you need to be more diligent about not touching the seat with your hands and touching the flush handle. You are more likely to get sick if you get germs on your hands and then touch your mouth, nose, or eyes. So, go ahead and sit down -- but wash your hands.

Myth #2 -- The hand dryers in public restrooms spread germs

The myth about public restroom hand dryers started due to the fear that "germy" dust collects in the dryer opening. When you dry your hands, the germs are blown onto your hands. This was easily exposed as a myth after taking apart hand dryers and testing for germs.

No germs were found to be living inside the nozzle of hand dryers. However, germs are on the buttons that you push to start the hand dryer so try starting the dryer by pushing the button with your elbow or using only dryers that motion detectors on them.

Myth #3 -- Anti-bacterial hand cleaners are better than regular soap

Washing your hands with regular soap and water for 20 seconds is the most effective way to clean your hands. Washing with soap doesn't kill germs, it simply removes them. Triclosan is the active ingredient that is added to anti-bacterial soaps but it is slow-acting so it probably isn't on your hands long enough to kill the bacteria. Stick with regular soap and water to keep your hands germ free.

Myth # 4 -- Your dog's mouth is cleaner than your mouth

While your dog's mouth actually does have fewer microbes that are harmful to humans, it doesn't mean that it's cleaner. It still contains more microbes than human mouths and you have to consider where your dog has been licking. Your dog's mouth or nose comes in contact with a certain material which may contain worms on a regular basis not to mention and scrapes and sores he licks to keep clean.

As you can see, there is no reason for you to fear these common myths about germs and no reason to go into hiding. Using common sense and keeping your hands clean with soap and water is sufficient to prevent most illnesses due to germs.
