Stars are those who “have it all” but history has proven that they are not immune to tragedy. Below is only a small sampling of the lives that ended within bizarre circumstances.

Controversy has always been a part of Michael Jackson’s image, both in life and in death. He died under mysterious overdose circumstances, with his own personal physician being brought up on charges of supplying the drugs that killed him. His life was as complicated as his death, and for years, rumors surfaced as to the cause of his demise. He continues to be remembered through his music and his personal turmoil.

Motown giant Marvin Gaye suffered an unexpected death at age 44 when he was shot twice by his father, Marvin Gaye, Sr. as he attempted to break up a fight between his parents. His father received a sentence of five years probation, and the music world suffered a double shock: once by Marvin Gaye’s death and once by the light sentence his father received for causing it.

Alfalfa Switzer, of Little Rascals fame, suffered a bizarre death after he was shot by Bud Stiltz, when Alfalfa broke into Stiltz’s home in a drunken stupor, demanding that Stiltz owed him the small sum of $50.00. Alfalfa had various run-ins with the law and although sad at how his life ended at age 32, he never seemed to come to terms with his later life after his early success.

Natalie Wood, the Russian-American actress, died at age 43 due to a drowning death near Santa Catalina Island, California, and until 2012, her death was ruled an accident. After a renewed investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death, it was reclassified as “undetermined”. She was married to actor Robert Wagner and her death remains a mystery.

Sonny Bono suffered his own death at age 62 due to a skiing accident near South Lake Tahoe, California. He and his former wife, Cher, were a popular singing duo and to this day, he rests at Desert Memorial Park in Cathedral City, California. His tombstone proclaims in large letters, “AND THE BEAT GOES ON”.

Anissa Jones, forever known to many as Buffy on the show, “Family Affair”, died a tragic drug overdose death at age 18. She was known as a “party girl” and to have taken all kinds of drugs. Her death was ruled as one of the most serious drug deaths known at that time.

John Candy, known as a comedic actor who had parts in many films, died at age 43, of an apparent heart attack while sleeping. He died in Durango, Mexico in 1994. He was another star who suffered a bizarre death in an already too long list of victims.

Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, died in a car accident in Honduras, at age 30, after swerving on a curved road to avoid hitting another vehicle. She was thrown out of the car, but was the only person to have died because of it. She was taken to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Phil Hartman, was shot in his sleep by his wife, Brynn, at the age of 49. She then committed suicide a few hours later. He was a “regular guy” and the person least likely to suffer a bizarre death. He was loved by fans and friends alike. Brynn’s drug use allegedly led to their personal problems.

Heath Ledger died from a drug overdose at age 28, which included the wrong combination of prescription drugs. This lethal dose led to cardiac arrest, which made his breathing slower and eventually his heart succumbed to the impact of this dosage. An investigation found that foul play was ruled out and those very drugs that killed him were found near his body. It was a very sad ending to a well beloved actor.

Gary Coleman, who at age 42, suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and cerebral hematoma, was famous for his role on the popular TV show, Different Strokes. Although he was small of stature at only 4’7″, his presence was “larger than life” in person. He suffered from kidney and heart problems, but was uncomfortable discussing his health issues. He had personal problems with an ex-wife and his later life was tragic due to his health and financial problems.
