OBD / EOBD / OBD II Diagnostic Equipment by Nobody: 6:28pm On Jan 18, 2009 |
Hi Nairalanders, Just putting out feelers here. I can supply diagnostic equipment / software for OBD, OBD II and EOBD-equipped cars. This includes CAN-BUS systems from about 1999>. The majority of cars these days will have on-board diagnostic capability, which of course, cuts down on diagnostic times. Of course, it won't be any good to owners of older cars - up to approximately 1988, but considering the maximum age for vehicles personally imported into Nigeria is 10 years, diagnostic equipment will certainly be of use to most on here. As most on here will already know, I'm a VAG specialist, offering both regular, as well as custom service to all cars in the VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) range. These are: 1) Audi 2) Bentley 3) Bugatti 4) Lamborghini 5) Seat 6) Skoda 7) Volkswagen I use OBD-equipment, but as a specialist, rather than for personal use. So I use VAS-5051/2, which is very expensive, and requires an annual subscription. Now most people on here will be using OBD / EOBD / OBD II equipment for their own personal cars, and perhaps occasional private work. Regardless of use, it isn't practical to run the sort of software I use, it just isn't viable, as it'll require a lot of paid jobs to cover the initial cost of purchase and set-up. I have been able to find OBD equipment that doesn't cost the earth to own, and will obviously eliminate the trial-and-error repairs garages often engage in. Most cars with electrical faults are often not the fault of the car, but the fault of "tinkerers" that claim to be top-class engineers, but in most cases, have little idea of what may cause electrical systems to go wrong. Our stocked systems will cover: 1) Engine management (ECU / sensors) 2) ABS systems 3) Airbag systems (SRS) 4) Aircon / Climate Control 5) Body electronics (central locking / electric windows / electric mirrors / HID headlamps 6) Security systems (alarms / immobilises) 7) Transmission Our systems will cover the major players in the automotive world: 1) European ( British, French, German, Swedish) 2) Japanese 3) American 4) Asian* Our payment gateways are able to accept payments from Nigeria, all items purchased via our website www.deltavag.com are fully insured and trackable. We use UPS and FEDEX. Feel free to browse our site, we are fully contactable, and we'll appreciate your feedback. |

Good one siena, Hope the manual is self explanatory? |
Re: OBD / EOBD / OBD II Diagnostic Equipment by Kafin(m): 7:36pm On Jan 18, 2009 |
Hey Siena, I am intrested in getting more specs of your OBDII scanner. I have not found one that can handle Airbag, ABS, AC, Tansmission all in one pack for Japanese, Asian and European cars. You can mail me at kafinkata@yahoo.com I still believe that OBDII scanners should not be used by people who dont know the details of automotive system operations. For example, one's car is acting-up, and the owner owns OBDII reader so he/she reads the trouble code (say generic fuel delivery issue) then goes to his/her mechanic. The mechanic whould have normally pick the most appropriate one of their phrases; we dont work on this model, the engine is V6, or these type of cars are very unreliable etc, But because the owner has now told him that the problem is with the Fuel delievery, the mechanic will gladly take a shot at the problem, and most likely get the car into a worse state. Just my though |

igwe 1: Mr Igwe, the manuals are pretty comprehensive, and easy to follow. Of course, I am not advocating people to read codes, then begin tinkering, unless they know exactly what they're doing. |

Siena:Thanks, I look forward to owning one soon but still wonder if it can detect when a car is due for servicing i.e changing of oil. |
Re: OBD / EOBD / OBD II Diagnostic Equipment by Nobody: 11:16pm On Jan 18, 2009 |
They can detect when the next service is due, as long as the car has variable service interval facility. Most of the German cars - Audi, VW, Porsche BMW and Mercedes have this facility, it was introduced in the VW / Audi range from the 1999 model year. With such cars, you can set the service intervals to suit the use the car gets. Going into these cars with the OBD diagnostic equipment, when the appropriate menu is selected, the screen will show how many miles remaining till next service / oil inspection. Of course, this will only be accurate if the last time the vehicle was serviced, the service interval was reset, regardless of whether the inspection / service lamp on the dash was on or not. |
Re: OBD / EOBD / OBD II Diagnostic Equipment by Nobody: 10:57am On Jan 19, 2009 |
It pays though, to monitor your services properly - when it's serviced, note the mileage. On average, oil changes are 6,000 miles or 6 months, whichever occurs first. The diagnostic tool is only as accurate as the user, and assuming the service interval on the dash was set, last time it was serviced. |

Data can be saved, then downloaded to a regular PC / laptop later in graph format. |

I would like to know if VAS-5051/2 that u use is compatible with honda cars. Also whatz d price like? U may send me details on abiodunode@yahoo.com. Thanks. |
Re: OBD / EOBD / OBD II Diagnostic Equipment by Nobody: 11:24am On Jan 20, 2009 |
Abiodun, the VAS-5051/2 is strictly VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) cars, it's the very same software and console that's used by Audi / VW dealers worldwide. For systems compatible with your car, please take a look on my site - the details are in my signature, thanks. |

Hi Siena, I have a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban, Which diagnostic tool would be compatible? Which one would a 1996 BMW 530 need? |
Re: OBD / EOBD / OBD II Diagnostic Equipment by Nobody: 5:34pm On Jan 20, 2009 |
Seanpoe: For your Chevrolet, you'll need the Autel US-703. For your BMW, you'll need the Autel EU-702. |
Re: OBD / EOBD / OBD II Diagnostic Equipment by Nobody: 10:11am On Jan 21, 2009 |
With the BMW, the Autel EU-702 will also tell when the next service is due, as the car supports that function. As I've stressed before, it'll only be 100% accurate if the last person that serviced the car reset the Service Interval Indicator. |

What equipments will i be needing to set up an auto diagnostics shop apart from the OBD 11 scan which i am aware of. |
Re: OBD / EOBD / OBD II Diagnostic Equipment by Nobody: 12:49pm On Jan 21, 2009 |
geebees: All depends on how far you intend to go, and what vehicles you'll be working on. Are you doing an on-site service? Mobile service? Air-con re-gas service? |

Siena, I am interested in getting the Diagnostic Tools for Japanese cars precisely Toyota, Nissan and Honda. Actually I am planning to set up a modern Auto Service/repair center somewhere in Port Harcourt. Please let me have your expert advice on the scanning tools I need for these range and also the cost. I am interested in tools that are easy to use (considering our experience level), affordable and can perform these checks; 1) Engine management (ECU / sensors) 2) ABS systems 3) Airbag systems (SRS) 4) Aircon / Climate Control 5) Body electronics (central locking / electric windows / electric mirrors / HID headlamps 6) Security systems (alarms / immobilises) 7) Transmission Fuel and Combustion 9) Exhaust You can send me a mail using pacificautosonline@yahoo.com. |
