. Investigation: President Makes 64 Promises, General Buhari Makes 45

President Goodluck Jonathan, the candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his main challenger, General Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have stepped up last minute campaign ahead of next Saturday’s presidential elections.

Since November last year, the two presidential contenders have been traversing the length and breadth of the country making campaign promises and canvassing for votes from the electorate. The electioneering campaigns of Buhari and Jonathan which had taken them to all the thirty six states of the country are expected to be concluded in Abuja this week with grand finales.

Investigations by Sunday Trust revealed that while they held campaign rallies across the six geopolitical zones of the country the two presidential candidates made no fewer than 109 promises of what they intend to achieve if given the mandate in next Saturday’s election. A breakdown of the promises shows that Jonathan made 64 campaign promises during his campaign rallies while Buhari made 45 promises.

While president Jonathan hinged his promises on his party’s transformation agenda to convince Nigerians on the need for continuity, General Buhari on the other hand had tried to persuade the electorate to embrace the APC’s doctrine of change in order to rid the country of what he considers to be years of bad leadership experienced under the ruling PDP since the return of democratic governance in 1999.

Buhari promises stability of Naira, electricity…
In Lagos last week, General Buhari, promised that if he eventually becomes the President, his first priority would be the stabilization of the fallen Naira and electricity.

During an APC Leadership Town Hall meeting with Nigerian Women in Lagos, Buhari explained that he was on a mission to restore Nigeria’s fading glory and reposition the nation on the path to greatness.
Buhari, who said the country was already in a mess as a result of ineffective government of the day, refused to make promises as expected by the women. He, however, said his government would give immediate priority to power, economy and security to deal with issue of unemployment which he said was at an alarming rate.

Explaining the reason for his meeting with Nigerian women, General Buhari said the APC government, under his leadership, would be committed to ensuring that gender is mainstreamed throughout all the government’s commitments in key areas such as the economy, health, education, security, power, agriculture, good governance and other areas of national development.

He pledged to implement the 2005 National Gender Policy, which serves as a roadmap for the promotion of women’s empowerment and gender equality in Nigeria, adding; “So far, there has been no political will to implement this very critical framework.”
The APC flag bearer who affirmed his commitment to include gender as a component of the Federal Character, added that his administration will make concerted effort to empower women in rural areas, who constitute the majority of the Nigerian women.
“We will improve and strengthen support for women in all sectors of the economy, through access to capital, training and skill acquisition. We will also ensure that women have better access to capital and credit facilities for their business,” he said.
He said the APC would run an administration that firmly believes that women hold-up half the sky. “My vision is for my daughters, and your daughters, to enjoy a world in which discrimination will be a thing of the past. It might be a long journey, but with your support and votes, we will be on the right path together.
“Nigerian women have been promised so much for so long. I stand before you now to make a solemn promise that I will not take you or your votes for granted,” he said. Answering questions from the women that gathered, Gen. Buhari refrained from making too many promises as requested by the women, noting that the economy of the country was down and that it would be difficult to make promises.

Meanwhile the winning team Pls take note of this.

As you are well aware, the campaign of the APC is centred around you. The ruling party, PDP has deep pockets full of ill-gotten funds and government resources and have used these to buy up the media.

We have YOU.

As General Buhari said at the APC Convention - "I can’t give you a fistful of Dollars or Naira to purchase your support. Even if I could, I would not do so, the fate of this nation is not up for sale."

We urge you to Take Action and help the GMB-PYO Team to victory, by the grace of God, on Saturday March 28, 2015.

We encourage you to make just one phone call to at least 10 people between now and March 28, urging them to vote Buhari/Osinbajo. On Election Day, we also urge you to bring 5 people to your polling unit.

We have tagged this drive " CALL 10, BRING 5".

We must Act Now, the Future of our country depends on every single one of us.

Thank you.
