YOU AND HIS GIFTS | 1 Corinthians 12: 1 (AMP)

“Now about the spiritual gifts (the special endowments of supernatural energy), brethren, I do not want you to be misinformed”

We are still on 'YOU AND THE HOLY SPIRIT'.

However, today, we are looking at 'THE GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT'.

In actual fact, going by the above passage (1 Corinthians 12: 1), I also do not want you to be ‘MISINFORMED’. Therefore, we will both travel through the pages of scriptures to see what the 'Gifts' are; their 'Administrations'; and their ‘Operations'. Also, their beneficiaries; and how individuals can identify which of these 'Gifts' at work in their lives will not be left untouched.

To start with, reading from 1 Corinthians 12: 1 – 12, there are just Nine (9) 'Gifts' of the Holy Spirit. Nonetheless, you must be reminded that it is still the same Holy Spirit at work here. The same Spirit in Genesis 1: 1 - 2; in the New Birth (John 20: 19 - 22); in the baptism of the Holy Spirit (Act 1: 8, 2: 1 - 12); He is still the same at work here (1 Corinthians 12: 1).

Once again, there are just Nine (9) 'Gifts' of the Holy Spirit listed in the bible.

PLEASE, NOTE: The Greek translations of ‘Gifts’ in 1 Corinthians 12: 4 is quite different from the one used for ‘Gifts’ in Ephesians 4: 8.

LET US DO A QUICK STUDY ON THAT

Ephesians 4: 8 (NKJV) | “Therefore He says: "When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, and gave 'Gifts' to men"

'Gifts’ in Ephesians 4: 8 is ‘Doma’ (dom'ah) in Greek which means a Present.

1 Corinthians 12: 4 (NKJV) | “There are diversities of 'Gifts', but the same Spirit”

‘Gifts’ in 1 Corinthians 12: 4 is ‘Charisma’ (char'-is-mah) in Greek. It implies a divine gratuity – token or donation. Specifically, spiritual endowment. That is, subjectively, religious qualification, or objectively, miraculous faculty - (Free) Gift.

Furthermore, reading Ephesians 4: 8 contextually, the 'PRESENT' implies to give something or award something to somebody. In english, the word Gift implies something that is free - what one do not labor for. This is the general ideology of the word 'Gift’. However, reading both passages, that is, Ephesians 4: 8 and 1 Corinthian 12: 4 contextually, and also follow their original Greek meaning, they speak of two different things.

Reading Ephesians 4: 8 in the light of its both ‘Pre-texts and Post-texts’, it is talking about God presenting or awarding some people a special 'Spiritual Offices' – Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, and Teachers. These are 'Gifts' - Present (Free) because no good deeds of anybody could merit any of these offices. It is a 'Divine Call'. It is a gift given to a particular set of individuals before they were even born | See Jeremiah 1: 5. (NOTE: Bible didn’t say one is greater than the other); while 1 Corinthians 12: 4 talks about Holy Spirit administering His 'Gifts' to God's people at His own ‘WILL’ if read in the light of its own ‘Pre-texts and Post-texts’ as well.

Is that understood?

Ok! If yes, let’s proceed. If no, please, read over and over again till it is well understood.

In continuation, the 'Gifts' - Charisma (Greek) we are addressing here today is that of 1 Corinthians 12: 4 (NKJV) | “There are diversities of 'Gifts', but the same Spirit”

THE NINE (9) GIFTS.

To make it more easier to study, bible scholars help divided them into three (3) segments.

ONE: The Power Gifts. TWO: The Vocal/Inspirational Gifts. THREE: The Revelation Gifts

The POWER GIFTS are:

(1). The gift of Working of Miracles (2). The Gift of Healing (3). The Gift of Special Faith.

The VOCAL/INSPIRATIONAL GIFTS are:

(1). The gift of the Interpretations of Tongues (2). The Gift of Prophesy (3). The gift of Diver kinds of Tongues.

The REVELATION GIFTS are:

(1). The gift of the Word of Wisdom (2). The gift of the Word of Knowledge (3). The gift of the Discerning of Spirit.

These are the ‘Spiritual Gifts’ Paul talks about in 1 Corinthians 12: 1. They are all listed in 1 Corinthians 12: 4 – 10.

Dearly beloved, please note that both the Spiritual Gifts (1 Corinthians 12: 4 – 10) and the Ministry Gifts - the five (5)Spiritual offices (Ephesians 4: 8 – 32) are as the Spirit 'ADMINISTERED' – 'Direct, Control, Run, Govern’. In other words, no one can of his/her own operates in any of them.

Patiently, from tomorrow, critically, we shall be looking into each of these 'Gifts', their 'Administrations', and their ‘Operations' in greater detail.

NOW, SAY | The Gifts of the Holy Spirit is not at 'Will'. Rather, at His own 'Will'.

LET’S PRAY | In the Name of Jesus, I see the manifestations of the Holy Spirit in my life as I consciously see Him as He is – AMEN!
