Nigerian Government Makes U-turn; Reopens Sea Borders by fun4: 11:40pm On Mar 26, 2015 |
Barely 24 hours after shutting all borders for the 2015 elections, the Federal Government on Thursday reversed the order by reopening sea borders. The reversal was announced by the Interior Minister, Abba Moro, at the commissioning of Koto-Karfe Prison. The minister said that the Federal government had received advice that closing the sea borders would adversely affect the nation’s economy. He however, assured that officers and men of the Nigeria Immigration Service had been directed to effectively monitor movements in and out of the country’s sea borders before, during and after the election. It will be recalled that the government had in a statement on Wednesday directed that all Nigeria’s land and sea borders be closed from 12.00 mid night Wednesday 25th March, 2015 to 12.00 mid night of Saturday 28th March, 2015. . www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/fg-makes-u-turn-reopens-sea-borders/ |

When I first heard that the sea borders will be closed 3 days before the elections, I was very worried about the economic rationale behind the decision. This reversal also highlights how top level decisions are taken spontaneously in this country without proper thought and consultations. I desire change #SaiBuhari 8 Likes |

What a clueless government, didn't they think about the adverse effect on the nation's economy before they ordered the sea borders to be closed??in a sane country the government should always think properly before taking any action, now they are saying they should open it back which i think is the right step in the right direction.... bigtt76: If you say don't close SEA, I will agree with you but LAND, no, I disagree with you. In fact left for me LAND borders should be closed five days to election owing to the fact that millions of illegal Nigeriens and Chadians entered and registered to vote in Nigeria. So lock them out I say and let them go and follow through the sea and see whether they won't drown trying to enter Nigeria. |

aresa: Try and be objective and do some research. This is not the first time Nigeria will be closing its borders for election. Or has GHANA never closed theirs for election. DO NOT ABUSE WITHOUT PROPER RESEARCH AND COMPARING NOTES |

Hahaha ...I hear you BUT what about the Nigerians who travel out by road to trade in other West African countries trying to come back and vote? Are you going to exclude them from voting? Let me tell you Border control is ZERO in Nigeria. Even with the order ....if you want to cross just part with some money - N500.00 to be precise (Seme) and they would allow you one time! fun4: |
