Nigerian Entrepreneur Taking On The Barbie Market by ninovandross(m): 4:25pm On Mar 27, 2015
The blonde, blue-eyed Californian Barbie doll made
by the toy giant Mattel has dominated the market for
decades.
But in Nigeria one entrepreneur saw a gap in the
market when he was unable to find a suitable black
doll for his daughter.
Seven years later, Taofick Okoya sells up to 9,000 of
his Queens of Africa dolls a month and claims to
command about 15% of the market.
He told BBC News about his quest to develop doll
culture in Africa.
