Whereas in 2011, the post elections violence followed almost immediately unlike this time around; social media penetration/ integration was about 60% far less than it is today. Some fools claim social media result trends were the cause of the violence and still have the temerity to say that discredit should be dished out to the results which we witnessed with our eyes and ears and decided to share with our brothers and the rest of the world. They even say - 'Only immature minds follow election results on social media, mature minds wait for INEC to announce the results'. That Reno Omokri came on social media (twitter to be specific) to make the above statement gets me wondering how mature he is given that he is using the same social media platform to send out his message. It highlights the way in which some Nigerians are complacent or amnesiac about their history. The great thing about shamelessness is that in an amnesiac culture, it works. they can say whatever they like about 1983-85, i wasn't born then; but not 2011, i was 20+ then |
