A few weeks later; he had another interview… I gave him my personal car to go with since it was raining…

I was the first person to see his offer letter and pay package when a major multinational oil servicing firm recruited him…

As he dey go; i carry my C.V give am (If opening dey for my level make he put am for me)

I was released from my project because I decided not to work on saturday and sunday, no entittlement for the overtime..I have lost interest on the job because of the pay..The pay is hundred of thousands anyways but I Just got tired..Someone could actually join another project, that is if there is space on another project,hence(no project,no salary)..you will sit at home till you are called back to support another project..Two days after the release,I got an offer outside the country,10times of my former pay..I give glory to God..#GodWins#.

I dunno lol, I knew the man would not have taken my unexpected resignation lightly so I just sent him a resignation text the night before and never returned to work after that.

Resignation isn't supposed to make you enemies with your former employer, regardless of how uncomfortable you felt when working with them. A good resignation should build your friendship so should in case you happen to meet each other elsewhere, he can always attest to you as a worthy staff.

i resigned on my Last Job sometimes last year...My Unit Head, head of HR and other Oga's tried severally to make me stay, they asked what the problem was..if i wanted a better pay..i declined...Finally my MD called and i told him my mind was made up..They delayed me for extra one month and i had to leave even without them accepting my resignation officially.

The funny thing is that i may be leaving my new job again soon...and am feeling bad already because they tried in terms of my welfare...

My 1st resignation was from my 1st bank having spent 14months with them. My unit head had earlier suspected I have been attending interviews and tried cajoling me to stay and all sorts. When I finally told him, he was pissed and said I needed to retrain my back ups before he signs my exit form and all stuffs.
38 months after, I had to resign from my 2nd job and I approached my group head who was barely 2 months as the head following the resignation of the previous head. He was kind of calm about it because he already knew I was leaving. It was my Divisional Director that surprised me. He was just too cold despite the fact that he's been aware months before then and had told me to let him know when I'm about resigning.
The good thing is that I'm still in good terms with them all.

Well, you all have shared ur experiences. Now let me talk from the other point of view.

Two things are constant:
1. Often times, we criticize the staff we find most valuable not because we hate them but becuse we expect better from them.
2. We invest time and resources into moulding them up. Often times we hire them as fresh inexperienced graduates and start brushing.

The problem a lot of people have is that they do not bring an air of professionalism to their jobs. They get too familiar or subservient to their bosses. Hence when you want to leave, the boss takes it personal. Sometimes too personal.

You may not realize it but the corporate space is not that big. Every boss knows another boss, who knows a boss that knows your new boss. An employer who feels slighted, who feels they invested a lot in you only for you to abandon them will track you. You will not know but trust me, it happens and sometimes, you may pay big time.

So bottom line is, I cannot employ you into my small company, see potential in you, groom and invest resources in you only for you to take it all and run to Shell or Chevron. That hurts. What happens is as you leave, you close the door of opportunity for the next person coming in to fill your position as I may not want to invest same.

Our HR dept keeps serious tabs on our staff and often let you go long before you decide to leave. How do we do so?
We have what we call the Base staff and the Echelon staff.

Base staff are dispensable, they are the muscles. Easily replaced. The moment a base submits a notice of resignation we do not hesitate to let you go.

Echelon staff on the other hand are the brains. They are the core. They posses full administrative and decision making powers. Without them, we will be out of business.

However, to ensure that we do not lose echelon staff:
1. We make it extremely attractive (Profit percentage pay, expense accounts, globe trotting, housing etc)
2. We make it extremely difficult to attain (high promotion review standards, acceleration for exceptional performance)
3. We make them stakeholders (they get stock options, full executive powers)

So far, it has worked and we have very low staff turnover simply because everyone sees the perks of being an echelon and aspires to attain it so they are willing to endure a lot of stuff until they get there.

mine was 2 months ago, av worked as a contract staff with a bank for 6yrs. When God had more to my laughter,coz i found favour there too. But man wnt to grow. When another bank gave me a core staff offer. Av finish my doc. Everything just came to d office nd told my immediate that am going on my annual leave coz i av to resume in a new place d following day. Is just like a dream to all my guys in d branch. But my formal boss called me and said a word tht tourch me .he said thank you u for ur support and may God be with u.

My Oga was like " Call him back right away my friend! How can he leave my Account Dept like that??

After getting to know how much I will be earning, he's like Is he really worth that lots?

My last boss was very proud. I worked 4 6months and only got paid for 3. He enjoys treating his staff like rag. I woke up one day after he told me the previous day that there was no cash to pay salaries and no apology, so i decided not to continue wasting my limited cash on transportation to work. He asked my immediate boss to querry me whivh he refused. After 2weeks he called me to threaten me still no way. He hated me more cox I started working for his worse enemy. But after 4months he made peace with me and I got the news that he not only regreted my move bt now treats his staff with a lot of respect.

I got a far better paying and less stressful job elsewhere so I had to leave.
I regret my actions though.

He has been threatening all his staffs verbally by saying "I can replace anyone of u @ anytime wthout sweat" despite owing us outstanding salary. He got wht he didn't bargain for whn all d staff tendered their resignation letters @ once.

Bro, our stories are alike, my bosses (a 2 man partnership) never paid us our full salary for the one year i was with them, they even threatened us saying we cant get employment elsewhere. Guess what,got a federal job three months after, see as i confidently write the resignation letter give them.

I have had to drop resignation letters twice after graduating from school.No employer wants this to happen.As a matter of fact, my last employer derives joy firing/releasing you.it caught them unaware on both occasions. I always learnt to be secretive when looking for a better offer otherwise your "runs" may not go through.This is a very good thing.Guys,don't be contented with where you are.with this,one will always look out there for a better job.

You are absolutely right.
I was working with a Coy. I was well equipped and given a car plus other working tools but the money was not too good. I gathered experience under intense pressure from a female Boss. She's sound and knows the Job with a great drive. She has a problem of unprofessional conduct like insulting her subordinates and attacking there persons. Though she has a slight preference for me among colleagues probably because I put in my best and work out my butt.
God answered my prayers and I got another Job that pays 3 times more. Prior to then, I was at the verge of closing a government deal on behalf of the company. My Boss insisted I close the deal before I leave and I agreed. Luckily for me two days later the deal was brokered and signed. Therefore, I stuck to my initial plan of two weeks notice. When it was time to go she was mad and told me to stay another two weeks but I turned her down because I was tired of been abused and I had to move on.
She gave me a shocker when my new employers went for a background check in my previous company. HR contacted her and she wrote my new employers that I never resigned plus I'm still working with them. I was highly embarrassed and my new appointment suspended.
Anyway God fought for me. My new employers called me back. While she lost her Job though for something else

Lesson: No matter what, always leave on a good and cordial note

Well we all have to move on some day but how we go about it matters a lot.

I'm glad you found somewhere with a much better pay and also less stressful. But please for the sake of your reputation in future, if you decide to move on for reasons best known to you in this your new job, inform your boss and your colleagues.

The last place I worked after informing my boss and colleagues about my leaving, I bought malt and meat pie shared with my co workers even my boss wasn't left out in the grand sentforth. Some people might say I went too far, but I have my reasons. This world is a very small place, you can never know who you'll meet tomorrow.

It has been really hilarious and inspiring and even somewhat touching reading through all these stories. My present boss for the most part is a wonderful woman, even though I feel I deserve way more than she's paying me because the work is really tasking (Creatively and Intellectually), but I like the fact that there's room to grow in the company and there's so much experience to garner....To add to that, it's ultimately in line with the type of company I plan setting up later on. I know people change, either for the better or for the worse, but if she continues being as cool as she is, then whenever it is I'm leaving I'm sure we would still remain buddies afterwards.


I'd also like to add this, I know it's really tempting and difficult having to turn down more financially rewarding offers from bigger companies, but you must ask yourself- if the position you're going to occupy in that company resonates with your calling and purpose in life, I don't want to sound overly spiritual, but really it pays to work in a place where you kinda have this "I was born for this" feeling. Money would always come when you're in your divinely pre-destined niche because if you only continue looking out for financially fulfilling offers, when are you going to discover yourself.

There may be many people viewing this thread and wondering "All these people wey just dey talk resignation resignation so, when me I never even see contract job". One thing you must understand is except very few people, every other person was once like you-with no job, just hoping and waiting,but finally...Their continued hope, patience and committed dedication to self improvement paid off, and now they have jobs that they can talk about. So don't give up or throw in the towel- Your rejoicing is near.

The woman was a terror, you dare not cross her path, she was the iya-oshoromanija (go figure) of the organization and I had the misfortune of looking her in the eye.

Few minutes after responding to her mail which directed me to take-up some new assignments, she charged into my office like a mad-man who has just taken two wraps of peppered Igbo, I had replied quoting the company's policy which clearly forbade me taking assignments not stated in my job contract, according to her, that was the highest insult she ever received,she then promised in her meanest voice to get me sacked within a month, i just jega-ed her and that made matter worst, she was foaming in the mouth when she flounced out of my office, banging the door after her.

I resigned using the office intra-mail a week later, got an opportunity in Europe.

When I dropped my resignation letter at my last job, my boss wasn't angry, just said he was happy I was moving higher in my career. The pay was terrible but he was a great boss, actually the best I've had. I felt bad resigning but I just couldn't cope with the salary and working conditions( which changed over time from what was agreed on initially)

I can relate to your story, it's always so gaddam emotional but when I left the stupid bank I was in before, I was filled with so much joy.

You see, I have been one of the team leads in a business process automation units of one of the new commercial banks and for 5years, I stared at promotions in the face without getting any even though I kept getting recommendations from all the clients I satisfied.

I had just returned from one of my official trips to Kano and after briefing my group head, I dropped my letter the next day. Omo, come see negotiations. Involved HR and our line ED but I refused( to hell with banking, blood suckers )
