It was about 12 years ago when VCD player
just came into Nigeria, and movies were
being made into VCD plates. Then they had
just released Mr Ibu which everyone was
talking about, and if you had not watched
the film that time you are not in Nigeria.
So i looked for every possible means to get
a copy but due to the money i was saving
to buy a radio i never had any money to buy
this wonderful home video.
I visited one of my guy and as i was
discussing with him about Issakaba part 4
that was just released then that i was lucky
to watch in a video store while passing by.
As we were discussing, i deviated to new
films i had not watched, and mentioned Mr
Ibu, i told him i would like to watch the film
and to my greatest surprise he told me he
had a copy.
I was happy and at the same time full of
surprise and told him to borrow me, please.
My guy went inside and came out with a
disc in which nothing was written on it. I
asked him if he was sure he came out with
the right disc. He said, He is 100% sure.
Nodding his head like like agama lizard.
When i got home, it was 6:30pm, and
Daddy had just returned from office. I
wanted to show him the film so i allowed
him finished his food first, and settled
down in the sitting room to watch DRTV
news.
After watching the news and with everyone
present in the sitting room, i made the
joyful announcement that i have Mr Ibu CD
with me. They were so surprised. My sister
told me to insert it into the CD. By this time
it was already late and my mummy who
isn't a movie freak said she is tired and she
is going to sleep. We all looked at ourselves
with the "Wetin concern us" look.
As everybody was now eager to watch the
film and dropping everything to
concentrate on this wonderful film. Alas!
what displayed on the screen was a porn
video. Without talking, my P.Man stood up,
walked straight to the VCD, removed the
disc and kept it in his pocket. The next
morning the whole family told me to kneel
down and prayed for me.
