Lupita Nyongo last week arrived in Uganda to shoot a Disney film ‘Queen of Katwe’ which is being directed by Mira Nair of Maisha film lab. Queen of Katwe follows the story of 18 year old local, Phiona, who becomes a national chess champion who is then invited to play internationally. While in Uganda, Lupita along with Mira Nair, Phionah Mutesi (the young world chess champion on whose story Queen of Katwe is based) and Robert Katende, her chess master, among others visited Maisha Alive, a fundraising event geared towards the continued development of the Maisha gardens.
