Phishing scams get more sophisticated all the time. However, you can protect yourself from most of them with a few simple rules. I know that my readers are among the most sophisticated Internet users in the world; but, just in case, here they are:

1. Never answer emails that promise you millions of dollars from a deceased Nigerian prince who the sender claims is your long lost relative. 2.

Never click on an attachment in an email unless you know the sender, and you knew the attachment was coming. Watch out, however, for spoofing, which will make the email look like it is from someone you know. Right click on the address and see what comes up.

3. Never give out your personal information to a site clicked through an email.

4. Use Chrome or another browser that has spam filters built in. Check the spam for legitimate email that may have been flagged; but, if Google puts it in the spam folder, you shouldn't be clicking on it. Don't sleep with the phishes. Stay on shore. Be careful out there.
