Christ came for his own, but his own received him
not. He went about doing good and performing
miracles and they accused him of being possessed by
belzebub. Because of his humble background, the
herod of his time and the pharisees rejected him. His
kindred was little and neglected that the high and
mighty wondered whether any good can come from
her. He was insulted, ridiculed and called names, yet
he opened not his mouth. He was falsely accused of
sins he did not commit and even when the people
were asked to choose between him and a criminal,
they chose to spare the criminal. He had the power to
escape death but he chose to die that they may live.
For their salvation, he chose to die the death of a
sinner so that they might have life and have it more
abundantly. We now have salvation bc he sacrificed
his life and comfort. Nailed on the cross, he prayed
that God should forgive those that crucified him. He
was celebrated in death and even those that crucified
him confessed that truly, he is the son of God.

Jonathan is from the minority south and was never
truly accepted as the president by those that claim
rulership as their birthright. His transformation
agenda for the development of Nigeria was criticised
and ridiculed yet he made giant strides in the
development of Nigeria. He was criticised, ridiculed
and called many derogatory names, yet he opened
not his mouth. He possessed the power to rig himself
into office a second time yet he chose to be defeated
so that Nigeria will experience peace. Even in defeat,
he congratulated his opponents and wished them
well. In his defeat, he is celebrated as a true
democrat and the best president Nigeria ever had.

Note: The aim of this is not to compare the person of
Jesus Christ with president Jonathan, but for the
discerning mind to draw some lessons from the
similarities in their circumstances.
