Heavy explosions and the sound of gunshots that engulfed some parts of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital have claimed many lives with others injured.

This has forced many residents in the affected areas to scamper for safety.

The explosion and firing of Rocket Propelled grenades which started at about 5:45 pm up to the time of filing in this report were heard around Kaleri behind the University of Maiduguri, Adam Kolo, Limanti and Kagarmari wards of the metropolis.

Sources also said sounds of gunshots were heard around Fori and Cashew plantation general area near Giwa military barracks.

Sources said, armed insurgents were behind the attack attempting to infiltrate the city, as troops engaged them.

Maiduguri has been long without witnessing any Boko Haram invasion, even as the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru last Sunday while on Operational Visit to the state gave 48 hours ultimatum to troops to recapture Marte Local Government Area which is currently under the control of Boko Haram.

One of the fleeing residents of Kagalmari, Ahmed Abba near Pole wire Biyu of Gwange General Area in the heart of the city said “a heavy explosion which was detonated in one of the public gatherings led to the killing of scores and injured.

Also, sources said, one of the Rocket Propelled Launchers fired by the insurgents into Kaleri has killed an unspecified number of residents with others sustained injuries.

All efforts to get confirmation from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edet Okon proved abortive at press time.

Niger Delta militants resurface, threaten to carry out attacks in Abuja, Lagos

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2veK6327dg

The Supreme Egbesu Liberation Fighters, a group of Niger Delta militants, has threatened to destroy infrastructure in Lagos and Abuja.

In a video posted on Tuesday by Africa Independent Television (AIT), the group accused the federal government of marginalising the region and failing to deliver on the amnesty programme.

Reading from a statement, a masked member of the group said after accepting the amnesty pact, “till date, there are no schools, no potable water, no light, no hospital and access roads for our people to enjoy”.

The group also complained that “no meaningful progress has been made” with the Ogboni clean-up project “because the Nigerian government has decided to place politics against the meaningful development of our people”.

It asked the government to allow the region to manage its resources “the way Zamfara gold mining sector is being handled by their own people”.

“Over the years, the Niger Delta people have made frantic efforts to create an enabling environment… but to our great dismay, the Nigerian government over the years has decided to handle the issues of the Niger Delta with kid gloves. They have betrayed the struggle and have left the people to their fate,” a member of the group read from a statement.

“Rather, what is visible is the presence of military gunboat and the numerous military personnel dispersed to the Niger Delta who are killing, raping, and maiming the innocent people of the region.

“Look at the security surveillance contract taking place in our region through the federal government these agencies in place have decided to shortchange our people. Now in our territorial waters, it is an Israeli company that is providing waterway security which we have competent hands with expert knowledge to manage.

“Don’t worry, because we are coming to destroy all your infrastructure in Abuja and Lagos. As a group committed to giving total liberation to our people, we will destroy the oil facilities both onshore and offshore in no distant time, we will be seen to be crippling the Nigerian economy.”

The group nominated ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state, to mediate between it and the federal government.

The threat of attacks by the militants is coming at a time when Nigeria is grappling with banditry, kidnapping and terrorism in various parts of the country.

13 Killed, 40 Others Injured As Boko Haram Rains Rockets On Maiduguri

No fewer than 13 persons have been confirmed dead, while over 40 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a rain of 10 rocket attacks on Maiduguri by suspected Boko Haram, yesterday.
As at the time of filing the report Tuesday night, a team of security, military, Civilian JTF and humanitarian workers were still combing the town for corpses even as the injured were assisted to the hospital.

Initial count of corpses has it that 13 persons were lost even as over 40 persons were reportedly injured.
The major casualties were recorded at a football pitch in Gwange near the House of late Gen Mamman Shuwa, who was one of the earlier casualties of insurgency in the state.
At the football pitch, nine boys who were playing football early evening were killed by the shot rockets.
Many others were injured at the football pitch by the rockets, which many said were 10 in number fired simultaneously.
Other parts of the town were not spared the rocket launch believed to have been shot to destabilize the town, paving way for a massive attack by the insurgents.
At Adam Kolo part of the town, the rockets killed four persons and got many others injured.

Multiple sources said four persons were killed in the explosion in the area, which also resulted in injuries to many others.
One of the source, said a Mercedes Benz parked in the area was totally damaged.
He said that the corpses were removed and taken to the State Specialist Hospital.
He said those that were injured were equally assisted to the hospital to be treated.
When our correspondent drove to the area at about 6:30 to have a clear picture of happenings, the entire area was cordoned off by Civilian JTF and some soldiers.

Many people were seen fleeing into other parts of the town with fear that it may be a prelude to further attacks.
One of those that spoke, said: “this is strange, in all the years of the attack on Maiduguri, we have not seen such massive rocket landing on us.
“We just need to flee into town for it is getting dark and we do not know what lies ahead.”
The military had to push the insurgents who were stationed around the town away with air bombardment to stop the town from getting infiltrated by the insurgents.

One of the top security sources, who was contacted told our correspondent that he could not talk as they were still involved in getting those injured to the hospital and getting the town secured from being infiltrated.

All attempts to get the military and other security agencies to talk on the incident officially was unsuccessfully as messages sent to their known spokesmen were not replied and call to their mobile lines were also not picked.

ISWAP has released a photo report from the Kafa-Gorigi ambush from Friday, 7 dead Nigerian soldiers can be seen in other pictures. ISWAP seemingly started the ambush in the terrain and time that would suit them - at sunset in dense forest and bushes.

The Governor of Borno state prof. Babagana Umara Zulum has on Wednesday, visited two hospitals after Boko Haram fighters fired shots from Rocket Propelled Grenades, on which killed 10 residents and 47 injured in Maiduguri, Insidenaija reports.

The shots, on Tuesday night, came from Kaleri, an outskirts of Maiduguri, it was learnt, but grenades traveled to hit Gwange and Adam kolo communities, both densely populated areas in the inner city. Most of the deaths occurred in Gwange. One of the RPG shots, hit a children's play ground in Gwange, it was also gathered.

Governor Zulum confirmed the attacks during his empathy visits to the State Specialist Hospital, and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, both in Maiduguri. The governor was told that some of the victims had sustained various degrees of injuries and were being treated, for which he directed that the state ministry of health shoulders the bills.

"Indeed it is a very sad moment for the people and government of Borno state, about 60 persons were affected, among them, 10 have died.

"It was as a result of long distance shots fired by the insurgents. I believe this is a new trend we have to raise up and stop.

"We experienced a similar incident exactly one year ago. The solution is to deploy an appropriate form of technology, which will have to work on.

"I share the pains of all those affected but we are not just visiting hospitals, we do so much behind the scene in our combined responses to the Boko Haram insurgency and we will keep making these and more efforts” Zulum said.

Speaking on military’s regain of Marte, which came under Boko Haram’s occupation a few days ago, Governor Zulum said he was not just pleased but also optimistic that the Nigerian military will work had to retain, continue its peace-building and stability efforts in ways that should ensure the insurgents do not take Marte again, or any part of the state.

"I am optimistic that the insurgents will not take over Marte again” Zulum said.

BREAKING: BOKO HARAM/ISWAP ERRONEOUSLY KILL OWN COMMANDER RESPONSIBLE FOR ATTACK ON NIGERIA TROOP IN MARTE
Terrorist snipers linked to the so-called Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP), have reportedly mistakenly killed one of its own top Commander, Ba'ana Okocha, who claimed responsibility for Coordinating the recent Jihadist attack on Nigerian Military formation in Marte Local Government Area in Northeastern Borno state, Nigeria.

Impeccable sources who confirmed the incidence, said Okocha, known to be an indigene of Gamboru, was shot and killed alongside four other jihadists at a fortified headquarters of ISWAP - a location given as "Arinna Sorro". Okocha and his armed companions are said to have been wrongly identified by the ISWAP special treetop snipers as an approaching enemy from the Abubakar Shekau JAS faction.

Most JAS fighters were chased out of ISWAP strongholds. ISWAP created fortified camps where nobody was allowed to have without permission.

Other sources have attributed his death to the panic and apprehensiveness generated by the ongoing onward offensive by the Nigerian Military under Operations TURA TAKAI BANGO.
KILL SEVERAL BOKO HARAM JIHADISTS

The highly fortified Jihadist location serves as an Armoury depot and hideouts for top ISWAP militant commanders including foreign ISIS mercenaries who often visit from Mali and other neighbouring states - these camps can only be accessed freely by approved persons.

The assassination of the notorious warlord has thrown the ISWAP families into dreadful mourning and further diminished their leadership fighting morale.
Sources familiar with the activities of Boko Haram ISWAP terrorists disclosed that the Insurgents have recorded increasing inter-factional clashes between Boko Haram JAS, ISIS backed ISWAP factions and the Al-Qaida wiyalats within the past two months.

A situation made severe by the continuation of the week-long highly-intensified offensive operations by troops of Operation Tura Takai Bango - an operation targeted at completely eliminating Boko Haram ISWAP terrorists in their strongholds in Sambisa forest, Mandara mountains, Timbuktu triangle and Lake Chad Basin Tunbuns. These relentless operations have pushed jihadist factional fighters and their families to migrate to other safer parts of North East of LakeChad to seek refuge.

These forced displacements caused by fleeing jihadists have generated a push back by other ISWAP jihadist factions following the banning of Abubakar Shekau in 2020 by the ISIS Shura Council.

Boko Haram and ISWAP continue to maintain an extensive operational network with local organised crime groups and other Al-Qaida and ISIS groups (JNIM and ISGS) in the triangle of Liptako Gourma (Sahel), Libya (AZWAJ) and Al-Shabaab in Somalia.

These groups now train ISWAP child soldiers in its newly established institution in Somalia known as "Darul Ilm". Fighters who graduate from these institutions were trained in ambush Operation, bomb-making and planting, and modern asymmetric warfare skills.
