Cant for a new frigate to replace NNS Aradu.

Maybe Chinese Type 054A Frigate is the best. MEKO frigates are almost too expensive at close to $1bn apiece.

$1billion for frigate? Meko A200 is not even upto half that amount. A frigate in most european navies is equivalent of destroyer in most nations.

Even a destroyer (type 052) is less than that amount.

Guess u mean can't wait. You bet can't wait either not least for the prestige it brings too. And since the idea is to replace Aradu as flagship it can't come with anything less of the full complement of armaments for all spectrum of advanced Naval warfare. Whatever comes should have cruise missiles to shut down any doubter in the region.

Yes.
Mostly the tonnage of frigate in regular navies range from 2000 - 4500 tonnes but in most NATO navies a frigate will range from 4500 - 7000 tonnes.

Nowadays some countries in europe go by the number of VLS launchers. 16-24 Launchers Corvette, >24-48 Launchers Frigate, >48-72 Launchers Destroyers. I am sure the NN will a light frigate in the 2500-3000tons range.

Hypocrites not unexpected. Given the circumstances even powerful African nations are lining up for stability. We face a mortal enemy up north and dealing with the devil maybe one of the few options. Though I don't see a long term future for the younger Déby Itno in N'djamena.

At the end of the day the size of the ship will determine the compliments of weapons that the ship can carry and that would still directly / indirectly determine the tonnage.

The Nigerian navy won't get anything below 3000 tonnes as the 2 likely ships would be Meko 200 (3700 tonnes) or type 054 (4200 tonnes).

In modern times the transforming of a country into a great power has traditionally coincided with the development of a powerful navy. The prestige associated with the Battleship led many countries to invest huge amounts of money into weapons platforms that they neither needed or in many cases could afford. A very good documentary series on the history of the platform can be found here. What made the acquisition of these weapons so attractive was that they were seen as an expression of national power.

In much the same way, nuclear weapons, nuclear submarines and aircraft carries now act as expressions of national power. It need not matter how old the carrier, the possession carrier is seen as mark that a state is important, that it is formidable and needs to be taken seriously; at least by those states that want to acquire them. As a result, states with little or no desire to project power, can end up fielding expensive carries and nuclear submarines.

Todays maximum warship armament is more about available deck space rather than tonnage. The south african MEKO200s sports16VLS and 8 ASM while 3700t and 121m. (needless to say the SA MEKOs are underutilized). In contrast to the israeli Saar6 corvette has 72VLS, 16ASM on a 1900t and 90m platform. We can see even a compact ship can deliver substantial firepower if properly armed.
Frigates like the Sigma 10513 of the Marocco Navy should be considered with 105m and 2300t representing the best Light Frigates currently available.

you are right to some extent but am not talking about VLS alone but the full complements of weapons carried on a ship.

Requirements of navies around the world determine the proportion of Sub-surface, surface to surface, surface to Air and EW suite. The FERMM is a good example. The system of every operator is different and directly or indirectly affected the tonnage/size of individual naval ships.

I understand the fact that some modern corvette have better systems than some older frigate it's normal because technology keep improving. Available deck space you talk about will limit certain technologies on small ships like corvette no matter how hard you try.

Am very sure south african valour class frigates can have more than 16 VLS (should be 32) but their navy didn't see any need for it. Meko200 is also one of the best frigates in the world. I don't know much about the Israeli ship you talked about but having 72 VLS on a corvette is crazy and I still doubt it. I will look into that In the morning.

if he becomes the President and want to send france packing, he can. And there's no darn thing france can do to him. only way they can retaliate is via economic sabotage. The world has changed, sure france have deep reach over there, but it's not absolute. sbeet. France's reputation can be easily ruined if they make unpopular move, and all it takes is a few strokes on a keyboard. The world is more sensitive than before.
Only reason he might be unable to if he wanted would be if they have some sort of agreements in place, And I'm talking about french military presence in the region. Chad isn't powerless, only risk i see for them in my scenario is economic

the nigeria army have been deployed to chad border. do you think what i am thinking. i am suspecting france for the death of debby

Under the pacte Coloniele agreement, France is entitled to 60% of Chad's wealth, formerly 80% in exchange for political & military stability.
Idris derby has been a very loyal ally of France for 30yrs helping in French led OPS Barkhane in Northern Mali, why will France deliberately destroy two countries he is feeding from? Makes no logical sense.

if there's a need to intervene in chad, we can go thru the AU, its all about audacity and actually having a spine, clarify your objectives and reasons for such deployment. if the AU and Ecowas approves deployment into chad, with the support of the chadian Govt, , France can not stop it. this is the problem black people keep having, we put ourselves down and put these westerners on a pedestal. call their bluff, as long as you aren't committing atrocities, there's nothing france or the west can do to stop such deployment. All they need is an excuse, take that away from them by doing things right, and their opinion become irrelevant.
you wouldn't know until you try.
Our problem in Sub-Saharan Africa is our lack of assertiveness. what a shame.

Strong militaries in the AU dont ever commit troops in Francophone conflicts because in the end, the UNSC will ratify all military interventions & France will squash everything with her veto, do you expect Nigeria to return to Mali like we did in 2013? hell no!!

The AU that couldn't deploy in Mali to fight terrorists.

There is no amount of assertiveness that can replace capacity and structural integrity.

Has AU deployed the so called 8,000 troops for COIN OPS in Nigeria? people just talk without practical knowledge.

Guinea bissau did it and was successful, though the French had to burn down almost everything they belt.

Chad can pull through. But now isn't the right time, because bokoharam and Libyan militias will take advantage, and France I know, will support whoever will make Chad bleed.

Leave the man. Chad and france aren't at war. Chad is a sovereign nation. Its their right. they don't even have to use force or be rude. play the pity game of the small guy being bullied and colonized in it's own country and you will see world opinion going against france. you can't force your presence on another country you aren't at war with and no agreement in place for what duration you will be there, if there was an agreement a d money was paid to Chad, then France have the right to not leave etc.
if anything france will bribe them with more assistance in other to stay.

Ecowas doesn't need the blessing of the UNSC to deploy troops within West Africa for peacekeeping missions. They can seek it if they need support or if the UN is deploying troops.
Now I'm open to be corrected by people who know better. I'm simply stating my opinion
Countries have deployed troops into neighboring countriesmany times without some darn UNSC authorization
. And once again, read comments properly before jumping into it. did i ever mentioned anything about the AU deploying troops? why even bother with this guy.
AU is to support the actions ecowas would take. and if Ecowas states including chad agrees, france can't stop it. its all diplomacy. you think france would go to war with West Africa over chad? it's all about optics, and it won't be good for france. Especially if the idea of ecowas being there is to help stabilize chad. Why would france say no to that.
Did Saudi Arabia got authorization from UNSC before going into Yemen? not sure. and can't find info that they did
