It is over... Taliban leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar has arrived in Kabul and has entered the Presidential Palace where Ghani, US and NATO officials are present. Kabul to be handed over to the Taliban and a new transitional government will be formed (led by the IEA). Taliban released a statement called announcing Victory and congratulated people of Afghanistan, adding that they are not going to attack Kabul. 7 Likes |

tutudesz: My only concern is that terrorists around the world would become very emboldened by this American show of cowardice. The government in Nigeria needs to watch ISWAP & the current mass surrender of Boko Haram terrorists carefully. These might be sleeper cells trying to infiltrate Nigerian cities to cause havoc. 8 Likes |

One more year, or five more years, of U.S. military presence would not have made a difference if the Afghan military cannot or will not hold its own country. And an endless American presence in the middle of another country’s civil conflict was not acceptable to me. 6 Likes |

kabe1:Well, Taliban isn't equal to terrorism. They just have a very strong ideology that is sympathetic to terrorism. Also, I don't think it's cowardice. You can't continue to police a place where you're hated and the enemy loved. It's like you don't really get that Taliban have the support of the public. You'lll encounter so much traitory. You'll get frustrated over time. 6 Likes |

kabe1:If you want to exterminate the Taliban, you may have to shoot everybody in rural Afghanistan. They only fear US troops but they don't like them. US forces sometimes have difficulty identifying who is Taliban and who is an ordinary gunman. It got to the extent of killing young people who simply possessed AKs (Aks are like knifes in Afghanistan), and mass murdering entire young men in settlements who tried to retaliate, and increasing their hatred. A lot of effort is spent tracking the network of locals who give out information to Taliban. They only deny Taliban at the butt of an AR-15. Many are Taliban at heart before they join the ranks formally. The only thing America could do effectively was to keep them out of major cities were people were mostly deradicalized and hated the Taliban (Public support). 9 Likes |

Faithful007: Also, the US is now strategically tilted against Shiite Islam rather than Sunni so a Taliban regime works better for the US against Iran, China.. probably Russia. |

Barely a few months since Trump enunciated the withdrawal & Nato threw in the towel and the Taliban have already pulled up on the National Capital. The same country with tons of FREE US military hardware in stock at every corner. I wonder what al Qaeda is doing lying in wait? My god and people want to downplay Nigeria's containment & elimination success; if this was Nigeria..... 10 Likes 3 Shares

RiceProducers:I don't think it's really about who is Shiite. Iran is fighting US for political reasons not religious inclined. Iran isn't really into Islamic hard-line terrorism. Taliban is the main fear for terrorism. Both China, Russia, US are all in the same shoe. They are already taking steps to safeguard themselves. Russia has moved troops into Turkmenistan already. You see, Taliban isn't interested in any negotiation. The only negotiation is to spare Americans. They're going to sweep that country clean, and then the defunct Afghan government and those who supported the US, will start facing the music. Thereafter, we will know whether they bring back terrorism or not. They are already giving us a hint of what is coming by calling their war an Islamic Jihad. 2 Likes |

Zulum: Borno is in ‘catch-22 situation’ over Boko Haram’s surrender … Says stakeholders need critical framework Governor Babagana Umara Zulum on Saturday in Bama and Gwoza, addressed military officers and community leaders, noting that ongoing surrender of Boko Haram fighters has left Borno State with two extremely difficult situations. He said the situation require diverse stakeholders including representatives of attacked communities, to come together and critically review the pros, cons and implications of the surrender, in order to agree on a framework that is well thought-out. Zulum travelled to Gwoza and Bama local government areas for humanitarian and developmental activities before addressing military commanders at Brigades in Gwoza and Bama, and community leaders at the palaces of the Emir of Gwoza and Shehu of Bama. The Governor delivered the same message in both towns. "We (in Borno) are in a very difficult situation over the ongoing surrender by insurgents. We have to critically look between two extreme conditions and decide our future. We have to choose between an endless war or to cautiously accept the surrendered terrorists which is really painful and difficult for anyone that has lost loved ones, difficult for all of us and even for the military whose colleagues have died and for volunteers. No one would find it easy to accept killers of his or her parents, children and other loved ones. In the last 12 years we have been in this war, and we have lost thousands of fellow citizens. We don't know the whereabout of thousands of others, we don't know whether they are alive or dead. In these 12 years, millions have been made homeless and many wealthy farmers, transporters and others have been rendered poor. In these years, we were able to cultivate maybe around 3% of the arable land, and as a result our people became dependent on food aid amid donor fatigue and potential food insecurity, infact the repercussions of the Boko Haram crisis are enormous and as someone who has been involved with assessment of the impacts and rebuilding efforts in the last seven years, I am in position to know the endless negative impact the Boko Haram has made in Borno” Zulum said. The Governor said accepting Boko Haram has the risk of seriously offending the feelings of victims with potential of civil rebellion, just as there is the risk that if Boko Haram fighters willing to surrender are rejected, they can join ISWAP to swell the ranks of fighters in the bush and the path of peace becomes narrowed. “On my way travelling to Gwoza and Bama, I saw many people cultivating their farmlands by the roadside and this is an indication of emerging peace, which we have to sustain in order to salvage our people. However, like I said, we must come together to carefully analyze the two extremes and come up with a workable framework” Zulum said. Zulum explained, that he will engage in high level consultations with President Muhammadu Buhari, service chiefs and resident security heads, traditional rulers, elders and religious leaders, national and state assembly members, academics and other stakeholders particularly victims of the crimes perpetrated by the insurgents, so that stakeholders will critically review the situation and come up with a framework on how to move forward. Meanwhile, Zulum during his visits to Gwoza and Bama, gave developmental directives on improving schools and hospitals.
