I agree with you on this, we should never allow our troops go to operations with soft skin vehicles.

Troops on patrols and on offensive missions should never operate in soft skins. Having about 8 mechanized battalions in the north east with dedicated air platforms for air support will do massive damage to the enemy if used intelligently, for troops in defensive positions, mechanized platforms should belong to the bottom half of their scale of preference. If there is enough money, they could also be provided with armored vehicles for patrols around their AORs to take out enemies beyond the range of their defensive weapons (any enemy force beyond the range of most modern artilleries shouldn't even be a threat to any garrisoned settlement) without having to stress assault forces but that should be after they must have been provided with needed fortifications.

And any force the enemy can put up in any battlefield that will be beyond the power of any well armed, well equipped mechanized battalion should be easy pickings for artilleries and a well equipped airforce.

And if the enemy proves to be a bit tough, add in a tank or two. Beyond that? send a whole battalion of tanks. Anything beyond that, you are no longer fighting terrorists.

And If there is any need for extra infantry either for clearance, to hold ground temporarily, or for any other reason, a well trained special unit could be quickly inserted into the field with transport helicopters.

Where is the manpower to saturate everywhere

Very very simplistic solution.

We have the manpower, trained and experienced just new designation and commensurate equipment.

The mobile police corps are more of a para military unit, just don't have the required weaponry.

I would speculate that we must have at least 40,000 mobile police personnel.

Have am immediate ban on mobile police being the security guards ,PA's, House boys, etc for a myriad of political actors, both in office and out of office as well celebrities and rich individuals.

That creates the immediate manpower.

Procure 2000 varied armoured vehicles, IFV, LAV, MRAP,and they Mobile police should be upscaled with .

Grenade launchers, heavy and light machine guns, NVG as standard issue, Thermal vision equipment, high calibre sniper be rifles 50cal., rocket launcher ( hand held) etc

In that one move you have completely changed the dynamics of the security infrastructure and the capacity to mitigate against all existing security threats in Nigeria.

There will be GREAT RELUCTANCE on the part of the army , because they have historically INTENTIONALLY kept the police weak and incapable. An outcome of the desire for military coups.

You don't seem to understand. A secondary requirement is resistance to 12.7mm ordnance. No up armoured Toyota has that.

Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) members struck again in Borno on Wednesday.

The insurgents attacked the hometown of Abddullahi Musa Askira, Deputy Speaker of State House Assembly.

They shot sporadically once they invaded Chan Chan Dana community in Askira Uba.

An intelligence officer told PRNigeria that the terrorists first disguised themselves as visitors before launching the attack.

“After realising that soldiers were not within the vicinity, they started shooting in the air, destroying structures on sight”, the source said.

Houses and a block of classrooms were among properties destroyed. The military has deployed troops to the area.

This week, ISWAP abducted Mohammed Askira and two brothers. The trio are brothers to the Emir of Askira, Abdullahi Mohammed Askirama II.

The Senate on Wednesday held a minute silence to mourn the killing of over 120 Nigerians by bandits at the Gorony Market in Sokoto State.

The attention of the upper chamber was drawn to the incident by Senator Ibrahim Gobir through a point of order during the start of plenary.

He said the massacre of the victims by bandits occurred on Sunday, October 17, 2021.

Gobir said, “On Sunday, October 17th 2021, Gorony Market was attacked and about 120 plus people killed.

“The terrorists came to the market and started shooting every person they saw in the market.”

He added that in seven villages within some local government areas of the state, residents were compelled by bandits to pay levies between N1m and N20m

Gobir gave the affected villages to include Kwarangamba, Garki, Danadua, Katuma, Kurawa and Dama.

The lawmaker lamented that failure to meet the demand imposed by the bandits in the affected areas had severally led to the killing of the villagers.

He expressed frustration that deapite consistent pleas to security agencies to come to the rescue of the affected communities, nothing had been done so far by the military and police to intervene in the plight of the people.

He further said that the failure of the military to come to the rescue of the villagers has emboldened the terrorists to install their own representatives as villages heads in some areas of Sabon-Girin Local Government.

He said, “The terrorists are now installing their village heads in some areas of Sabin-Girin local government.

“In Gangara, they replaced the village head with Dan Bakkolo, the next in command to a known terrorists called Turji.

“In Makwaruwa, they installed Dan Karami (a terrorist) as Maigari,” Gobir said.

This is what happens when you do not take the socio-economic well being of your people seriously. Many of these bandits are foreigners true, but the vast majority are most likely almajiri that nobody cared for,but now have a gun. They now land instant wealth by kidnapping, cattle rustling and taxation where they could hardly feed before. No way will they return to street begging.

If you don't spend money raising your people, you will spend it killing them, because when they run out of options on what to feed on they will feed on you.

We as Nigerians quickly forget our past.

Any goddam new procurement of vehicles, we celebrate blindly without careful deep thinking.

So we celebrated 43 T-72 tanks 7 years ago but today 7 years after celebration, Nigeria's insecurity is worse.

All these unarmed light armoured vehicles without guns long range night vision sensors, will be fitted with same old DShK or W85 that has failed to give security to all 36 states and FCT.

320 unarmed STANAG 1 & STANAG 2 vehicles are not war winners. You may keep celebrating like this for another 20 years. They turn you to their drummer boy dancers while big men get rich from each procurement grin

All these 100 Dongfeng, 100 Bigfoot, 60 Legion, 60 Type 89 tracked are simply replacements for heavy attrition losses Nigerian Army is suffering for Steyr APC tracked, MTLB tracked, MRAPs of Bigfoot, Caiman, REVA, etc destroyed by IED, RPG, DShK, etc. You need to visit Nigerian Army scrap vehicle bone yard or Zamfara to Borno terrain graveyard of destroyed NA armoured vehicles to see how many vehicles we have lost to enemy action.

Tuareg & Tebu Mali Bandits, Kanuri Boko Haram, Sahel & Sahara ISWAP, Senegal & Nigér Fulani Bandits have already done infantry tactical flanking maneuver turn corner sidetrack & bypass Nigerian Army containment barrier troop battalions to invade reach Kaduna, Benue, Niger, Abuja, down to Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, they now have access to all our 36 states & FCT.

Like ISOTREX Phantom and KIA KLTV failed, so Dongfeng with DShK will NOT save us in our 923,000 km² land mass giant size, we need new armoured vehicles in several thousands spread across all 774 local government areas to trully end insecurity nationwide.

This is just - 320 + 320 = 0 Progress
I love what you wrote till the final conclusion. But why is Nigeria one of the very few countries in the world buying more and more equipment, when there is almost no external aggression. Why do we keep on having insecurity issues? Why do people rise against the state? There is a big lesson to be learned from Afghanistan. The important lesson that if underlying issues that deepen disjoint between state and citizens continue without redress, no military equipment in this world will save that state from collapse.

Lack of proper education, radical ethnoreligious segregations, and rising poverty are very serious issues Nigeria underrates and has no serious mitigation plans against. Rather foreign governments are the ones pointing it out, but unfortunately, many do not know that it will (not could) eventually trigger a serious state collapse if nothing is done.

Have you wondered why first world progressive nations take climate change very seriously to the extent it sounds like it is overrated. It is simply because it will be the bedrock of future multifaceted problems and conflicts that could threaten human existence. Therefore those governments would struggle to fix a broken gas line at the bottom of the sea than wait for it to ignite at the surface. Sadly though, Nigeria prefers to do the latter and then channel all energy to quench a flame that never will.

Is Nigeria close to being a failed state? No.
Is Nigeria on track to becoming one? Hell, by all indications, yes.

Truth is that there is already a massive development deficit which accumulated over several decades that will take several years of efforts and seriousness to sort out while also suffering the consequences of the gaps left by the deficit which will also impact negatively on the efforts aimed at sorting out the deficit and further growth.

Stopping the proliferation of small and light arms should buy us some time to focus on economic development

OPERATION HADIN KAI: TROOPS INFLICT HEAVY CASUALTY ON BH/ISWAP TERRORISTS IN AMBUSH

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) deployed at 192 Battalion Foward Operations Base (FOB) have inflicted heavy casualty on Boko Haram(BH) and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in an ambush in Pulka general area. It was an Intelligence driven operation that was conducted with precision in conjunction with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local vigilantes. The operation left four of the criminal elements neutralized and a good number of arms recovered.

The fierce encounter occured in Rengye, an area suspected to be the terrorists' crossing point. Aside the neutralized terrorists, several others escaped with injuries, leaving traces of blood behind, as they fled in disarray.

The gallant troops recovered two AK 47 rifles, three AK 47 rifle magazines, one 36 Energa Hand Grenade and oneTear gas cannister from the terrorists.

While commending the troops for their resilience and renewed doggedness, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya charged them to continue to dominate the area operationally by denying the criminals freedom of action.
