CAPACITY BUILDING: NAF TRAINS WORKS PERSONNEL AT NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is currently training some personnel of its Works Specialty at the National Institute of Construction Technology (NICT), Uromi, Edo State. A total of 50 NAF personnel are, at the moment, participating in the training programme, which would last 4 months. The personnel are undergoing training in specialized fields such as Plumbing and Pipefitting, Power and Domestic Electrical Engineering, Surveying as well as masonry. The training programme is an initiative of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who has continued to place emphasis on capacity building, with the belief that it is a prerequisite for optimum service delivery. It is noteworthy that the ongoing training of the Works personnel marks the first time the NAF will conduct proper basic training for airmen/airwomen of the Works Specialty. In the past, some of the personnel deployed to the Works Specialty were qualified tradesmen while many required basic training in specialized fields. Over time, however, it was realized that most Works personnel had not been receiving the required formal training and hence, normally relied on on-the-job training to function in the Service. Consequently, the desired level of professionalism, to meet the nation’s contemporary security challenges, had been largely missing in NAF Works personnel. The training programme at NICT is therefore designed to add value to the skill and knowledge already possessed by the NAF Works personnel, as a way of enhancing service delivery. In addition to facilitating a smooth career progression for NAF Works personnel, the expertise that the training at NICT provides would be handy in barracks maintenance. With the increased construction activities across NAF units, the services of well-trained artisans are also needed for quality output especially in the execution of direct labour projects. The NAF plans to train a total of 200 Works personnel at NICT, with the current set of 50 trainees forming the first batch. On completion of the training of the first batch of students, another batch of 50 personnel is expected to resume for training at the Institute. The training of the NAF personnel at NICT is one of the numerous ways that the NAF is partnering with local institutions to enhance capacity building, with cost saving implications for the nation. PRESS RELEASE NIGERIAN AIR FORCE DESTROYS BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS FACILITY FOR MANUFACTURING OF IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVE DEVICES In furtherance of Operation LAFIYA DOLE, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), on 20 November 2017, successfully destroyed a Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) facility for manufacturing of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). The BHT facility, which was in a place known as YIWE Forest, located 23km south of Konduga in Borno State. Previous NAF Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions had revealed the location to be a BHT hideout, from where the Maiduguri suicide bombing of 18 November 2017 was reportedly planned. Available Human Intelligence also revealed that the hideout contained IED-making facility for the insurgents’ suicide bombing attacks. Accordingly, one Mi-17 Helicopter, 2 x Alpha Jet and 2 x F-7Ni aircraft were detailed to carry out air interdiction on the target over a 2-day period. Overhead the location, the aircraft took turns to deliver a combination of bombs, rockets and cannons on the target. The subsequent Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) revealed that the strikes had destroyed the IED-making facility and other BHT structures, killing an unspecified number of insurgents in the process. The air strikes also caused a huge flame within the settlement, owing to the cache of IEDs stored by the BHTs, while a few fleeing insurgents were further strafed with cannons and rockets. Presidential spokesperson Garba Shehu stated in a press release that the Minister of Defence, Brigadier-General Mansur Dan Ali (retd), requested the deployment of a battalion of Special Forces in Zamfara State in addition to the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army in Sokoto. What is wrong with this people!! SF for cattle rustling? My fears are materializing, the fear of the brass misusing the SF. Now what strategy is in placing a SF Bn in Zamfara. I was reading a senate plenary concerning the Zamfara issue and lost my appetite when Sen. Yerima came up with the very dull sentence ‘This is beyond the Police , more than 5 villages are out of their homes in Zamfara State, we need to mandate the Federal Government to deploy the Nigerian Army instead of the Police’. God forbid that these good men pass arduous training just to chase some illiterate Shepherd 2 Likes |

bidexiii: Okay. I now believe Boko Haram is being heavily defeated. I counted just three dead soldiers. Camera angles and use of amateur animations prove they are getting short on propaganda materials. About four repeated scenes of a single battle on the same road. They showed a scorpion tank being towed and an MBT of Unknown date of capture. Indeed there are too many clips spliced it is not easy to determine the age of sub footages 1 Like |

Each time I see pictures of our brave men in the Nigerian military wielding AK47... I just wanna cry. Ok now if bad comes to worse and then to worst...like a World War III ... how do we effectively defend our people, our kids, our women and old folks ? |

abiodunalasa: You need to look properly at this thread from page 1. Nigerian army now uses mostly the ultra-modern European NATO standard compliant Beryl assault rifle, we imported tens of thousands of it in 2015. Federal government Abuja this 2017 released millions of dollars to start new manufacturing factory in Kaduna for more over 100,000 more Beryl rifles. FG is also likely to sign contract for ultra modern Pindad SS2 assault rifles to replace our FN-FAL rifles. AK-47 will remain in use for it's reliability that is best in the world. Nigeria is changing slowly, we just need to flush out corruption and learn to be patriotic if we want fast fast changes for better. |

Adminisher: What they are doing now is to launch attack in neighboring States where security is less for their propaganda. They want the military to free up security a little in Borno state as they launch attacking Adamawa state. They've tried this trick sometimes this year but that was in Yobe state and the military responded well to most of their attacks. I hope the military respond appropriately to this too cause it's been long we heard of boko haram attacks in Adamawa state until recently. |

SupremeCourt: That's right bro... But I only see Beryl rifle with our dear Special Forces like the AFSF. Regular Joes still uses rusty AKs. I pray and hope they change them all soon too. Pls I need clarifications what do u mean by AK being the best in the world...because advance military in the world don't use it. Like the US only uses M4s and even Russia where AK comes from don't use it with their regulars not to mention spec ops. I only see AKs with rebels and terrorists or armed bandits. |

bidexiii:Only if people at DICON were not greedy bunch, we would have been looking at modern AK-47s manufactured in Nigeria to suit Nigerian soldiers. But hey, they have to pay their children's school fees in UK and Malaysia and build houses that no one will live in, in Abuja. |

Odunayaw: No it is not sir . Beryl and Ak are 2 different products. Kalashnikov designed AK Lucznik designed Beryl. Beryl has its variants...so does AK. They are both as different as Samsung is different from Tecno. And need I remind you sir that Beryllium rifle became fully operational in 1997 by the Polish Military. By that time 21st Century ain't arrived yet |

abiodunalasa:Kalashnikov is still the Grandfather to all the variant of Beryl. Even the South African R4,R5,R6,etc are all grandchildren. |
