bidexiii: Have they sorted out the data-link yet? In November 2017, a Denel Dynamics mate who's on secondment to Tawazun said Adcom Systems has only achieved near real-time data transmission. As a result both Russia and Algeria have postponed their purchases. 1 Like |

tdayof: The UAE is quite fastidious about supporting local industry and yet they've gone nowhere near Adcom Systems. I was pilloried on the other thread when I made this point with regards to Nigeria's purported interest in Yabhon. Hell, in the unarmed UAV segment, they've doubled up with more orders for Denel Seekers and Predators; and armed Wing Loongs from China. |

Who has seen the video of the US green Berets being killed in Niger? Their video in action against the terrorist. ISIS released videos from the Green berets officers Cam. Truly the war here in Africa is different from Syria, Afghanistan or Iraq. I wonder how it's going to be if the terrorist here have weapons possessed by the ones in the middle east. With what I saw in that video, I'm sure if there was presence of foreign SF in Nigeria, they would be having much casualties too. RIP to the heroes. |

Nigeria: Doctors Desert Nigeria After Terror Attacks By Ahmed Obafemi Maiduguri — More than 40 000 people, including 60 malnourished children, have been left without access to healthcare after volunteer doctors quit northeast Nigeria in the wake of deadly terror attacks. Doctors Without Borders, the international medical humanitarian non-governmental organisation, has suspended its activities in Rann days after Boko Haram militants killed four soldiers, four mobile police and three aid workers last Thursday. A female nurse was kidnapped. Thousands of people living in this town that is located in the Borno State were relying almost entirely on the organisation's services to access healthcare. "Many of those living in Rann had sought shelter after fleeing their homes and were already extremely vulnerable." said Kerri Ann Kelly, Doctors Without Borders Emergency Coordinator in Nigeria. "As such, leaving our patients, who include 60 children currently enrolled in our nutrition programme, without medical assistance is an extremely painful decision," Kelly added. ARTICLE CONTINUES AFTER ADVERTISEMENT Kelly said Doctors Without Borders would continue to evaluate how the situation evolves and would return when the conditions allowed. Rann, near the Cameroonian border, and Maiduguri are among the areas worst afflicted by the Boko Haram insurgency. Rann came into the global spotlight when a Nigerian Air Force jet mistakenly bombed a local refugee camp believing it was a Boko Haram encampment. Some 115 people, including six Red Cross aid workers were killed. Last week two workers from the International Office for Migration, the United Nations (UN) migration agency, were killed, alongside a medical doctor. Mohammed Abdiker, IOM Director of Operations and Emergencies, expressed anger at the killing of the aid workers. "We are outraged and saddened. We will miss them," Abdiker said. |

Security sources told SaharaReporters that they were handed to Nigerian troops at Gamboru-Ngala. "The soldiers claimed to have fled gunfire that left eight security personnel dead." said a security source. Another source also disclosed that a nurse, Hauwa Mohammed, might have been rescued also by Cameroonian troops. This, however, could not be confirmed. |

Rann: Goodluck Jonathan reacts to killing of UN humanitarian workers NEWS Published on March 4, 2018 By John Owen Nwachukwu The immediate past president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, has reacted to the killing of United Nation staff by Boko Haram insurgents. Jonathan condemned the spate of killings in the country, particularly the recent attack that led to the death of international aid workers in Rann, Borno State. Following the attack in Rann on 1st March 2018, three aid workers were killed and one was injured. Reacting in a Facebook post on Saturday, Jonathan called for international cooperation in the war against terrorism, noting that an attack on a nation is an attack on all nations of the world. He wrote, “I condemn the killings of members of staff of the United Nations (UN) and other humanitarian and aid workers in Rann by Boko Haram terrorists. “My thoughts and prayers are with the UN and the families of the victims as well as to those injured in the dastardly and cowardly attack. “The UN and other humanitarian and aid groups such as Médecins Sans Frontières have been friends of Nigeria and deserve hailing, not killing. “I therefore repeat the call I made while in office-that the war on terror must be treated as a global war. There must be full and total cooperation amongst the nations of the world. “An attack on one nation must be seen as an attack on all nations. That is the only way we can defeat terror, together, not apart.” |

NIGERIAN AIR FORCE GRADUATES FIRST SET OF IN-HOUSE TRAINED UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLE PILOTS The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on 2 March 2018 graduated the first set of in-house trained pilots for its Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA), as part of the human capacity development initiatives of the current NAF leadership. The 5 newly trained RPA pilots were decorated with their ‘wings’ by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base at Maiduguri. The training of the new Pilots commenced in 2016 at the 401 Flying Training School, Kaduna, following which they later converted on the CH-3A RPA. The CH-3A RPA conversion training, which started in May 2017, covered areas such as Ground Academics, General Airmanship, Instruments, Situational Awareness, Radiotelephony, Boldface exercises as well as handling of simulated and real emergencies. The entire programme lasted about 2 years while the CH-3A RPA specifics phase lasted for 10 months, culminating in check rides for each of the 5 new RPA pilots. At the moment, the new pilots each have nearly a hundred hours each on the CH-3A RPA. The CH-3A RPA, which formed part of the training platforms, is currently deployed in the North East, where the Air Task Force of Operation LAFIYA DOLE is using it against Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs). With several hundreds of flight hours on the CH-3A RPA alone since induction three years ago, the NAF has developed commendable experience in its RPA operations. In the process, the CH-3A RPA, in combat role, has successfully delivered its ordnances against BHTs targets with high degrees of precision and accuracy, both day and night. With the recent feat of being able to train the pilots of the RPA in-house, the NAF is now poised to train additional batches of Student Pilots for its RPAs. This would ensure the availability of the required manpower, at minimal cost, to man the NAF’s RPAs, which are expected to increase in the coming years. It would be recalled that the NAF recently inducted the first indigenous operational Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), named Tsaigumi, in its resolve to enhance its Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance capabilities. Meanwhile, plans are already underway to mass produce the Tsaigumi UAV as well as develop the nation’s first indigenous Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle, which would be in the league of the CH-3A RPA.
