There where a lot of bridges in Born on states, most especially communities around lake chase region and some bordering communities to Cameroon.

Honestly I can't say precisely but the location looks like Gamboru Ngala a market community very close to Cameroon.

BOOST TO NIGERIAN AIR FORCE OPERATIONAL CAPABILITY AS 25 STUDENT PILOTS GRADUATE

The operational capability of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has just received a boost with the graduation of 25 student pilots at the 401 Flying Training School (FTS) Kaduna. The event, which took place on 26 June 2018, barely 2 months after 18 student pilots graduated from the same school, is another giant stride in the human capacity development efforts of the current NAF leadership. It is part of the repositioning process in the NAF, in line with the vision of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, to ensure the availability of well-trained and highly skilled manpower to combat the security challenges in the country.

Speaking during the occasion, the Guest of Honour and Air Officer Commanding (AOC), Air Training Command, Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Adamu Idris, disclosed that the NAF would continue to strive to meet the Nation’s security demands through robust and result oriented training for enhanced service delivery. He congratulated the graduating pilots for their intellect, courage and determination and urged them to sustain the tempo and attitude in their subsequent flying training. The AOC expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the CAS for his continuous support to the Command, noting that the timely provision of much needed training requirements and guidance by NAF Headquarters had provided the desired impetus for the Command to strive towards excellence. “On our part, we shall continue to be steadfast in our loyalty to the nation and provide the enabling environment for peace and prosperity”, the AOC said.

In his opening address, the Commander 401 FTS, Group Captain Ahmed Dari, after giving highlights of the ab-initio course, said that 401 FTS had received a tremendous boost in its flying training capability with the acquisition of the Super Mushshak and additional Diamond 40 aircraft, in the last 3 years. As a result, he said, the School had graduated a total of 68 students, 50 on the Diamond 40 aircraft and 18 on Super Mushshak aircraft, since the inception of the current NAF leadership. Speaking further, he disclosed that, aside from ab-initio training, the School had conducted Instructor Pilot training for 4 pilots and conversion course for 3 Instructor Pilots on the Super Mushshak aircraft. He therefore expressed the appreciation of 401 FTS to the CAS for his support and leadership, which had enabled the School to turn out 2 sets of student pilots within the Second Quarter of 2018.

A total of 31 NAF cadets from the Nigerian Defence Academy Kaduna commenced the ab-initio flying training course on 12 October 2017 with 25 successfully completing the course, one of who is a female officer, Flying Officer Chinelo Nwokoye. The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of awards to students who had distinguished themselves during the course. Flying Officer Silas Solomon was the Best All Round student and Best in Academics while Flying Officer Paul Onuh emerged the Best in Flying.

Establish National Hydrography Office, Navy urges FG

...Awards contract to French Dockyard to supply survey vessel

The perennial tussle between the Nigerian Navy Hydrography Office (NNHO) and the Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation may soon fizzle out if the call to establish a National Hydrography Office is heeded.

It is public knowledge that over the years there has been perceived rancour between the two agencies over whose responsibility it is to assume charting authority for Nigerian waters.

However, that narrative was effectively squashed by the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ikot Ibas, who reiterated that the responsibility for the production of charts and coordination of all hydrography activities in Nigeria rests with the Nigerian Navy and is statutorily backed by the Constitution.

Ibas, who was speaking at the commemoration of the 2018 World Hydrography Day in Lagos called for increased collaboration among agencies in Nigeria that have hydrographic functions such as NIMASA, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigerian Institute of Oceanography and Marine Research (NIOMR) and National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) and also appealed to the federal government to consider transmutation of the NNHO into the National Hydrography Office to oversee all survey activities in Nigeria’s maritime space.

He noted that the Navy has taken some giant steps to improve service delivery to mariners operating within Nigerian waters in the last one year.

According to him, “The NN has developed the required competence for the production of training charts for use in aiding maritime institutions across the countries. At present, four of such charts covering areas of Nigerian coast from Lagos to Calabar have been produced and are available at the NNHO.”

On acquisition of hydrographic platforms, the CNS informed that the Nigerian Navy has completed the construction of two survey launches at the Naval Dockyard in Lagos, while it has awarded a contract to a French Naval Dockyard for the construction of an offshore survey vessel which will be delivered in the coming months.

In the area of capacity building, Ibas noted that the navy has trained and is still training a number of its personnel in various fields of hydrography at various International Hydrography Organisation (IHO) accredited institutions around the world.

“There are also efforts at rebuilding the Nigerian Navy Hydrography School so as to meet local capacity building needs of stakeholders in Nigeria. The navy is also in touch with some tertiary institutions and relevant stakeholders in Nigeria for commencement of relevant hydrography courses. These efforts are intended to deliver total hydrography package to mariners in the next few years in order to facilitate safety of navigation and improve maritime activities in Nigeria and improve economic wellbeing of all Nigerians”, Ibas further mentioned.

On his part, the Hydrographer of the Nigerian Navy, Commodore Chukwuemeka Okafor, said that due to a lack of synergy between agencies in the sector, the NNHO was not getting enough information from mariners with respect to uncharted areas which they encountered during voyages within Nigerian waters, thereby making it difficult to serve their interests.

With respect to this challenge, Okafor proudly informed that “the Nigerian Navy has achieved the first phase of the International Hydrography Organisation’s mapping strategy by establishing the Maritime Safety Information (MSI) facility which provides information of uncharted areas in order to improve safety.

In addition, Okafor noted that the NNHO has procured a standard data repository server and associated facilities to address the challenge of insufficient survey data for charting Nigerian waters. This means that marine geospatial data can now be archived in the standard format and subsequently retrieved on request for use as required.

Surveyor General of the Federation, Ebisintei Awudu, represented by S. A. Taiwo, highlighted the importance of hydrography as a multiplier to all maritime activities.

“It aids the safety of navigation, supports the defence of the national territory through the sea, it facilitates maritime trade and infrastructural development which impacts positively on the national economy, it also impacts on environmental protection, coastal management and deepens international diplomacy among others”, he said.

He also urged the public and private sector to close ranks and collaborate with all stakeholders, particularly the Office of the Surveyor General, to jointly achieve the objectives of the sector.

The Director General of NIMASA, Dakuku Peterside, also stressed the importance of hydrography in respect of the economy, sustainable seas, safer oceans and waterways and security of the Nigerian coast.

He said “Hydrography helps to keep freight cost lower, helps avert incidents at sea and deescalate perils at sea. Hydrography is one of the pivots upholding the Merchant Shipping and Cabotage Acts as a critical profession that helps NIMASA pursue its mandate.”

On his part, the General Manager, Surveys, NIWA, Engr. Dennis Osamgbi, noted that hydrographic surveys have been carried out without proper procedures and stressed the need for specification and synergy for surveys of coastal and inland waters.

Other stakeholders at the event called for the implementation of a hydrographic survey model to lay emphasis on economically viable maritime routes and water bodies. They also advocated the introduction of oceanic sciences to Nigerian Universities’ curriculum as well as the acquisition of more survey vessels and launches.

Furthermore, there were calls for the implementation of a national hydrographic framework and development of a harmonised hydrographic survey database. The stakeholders acknowledged the high cost of training for hydrographic activities and similar cost of equipment as challenges, but urged the authorities not to relent in their efforts to ensure development of Nigerian waterways.

The tucano deal is 90-95% paid before the Senate knew it was late. The Senate where all grumbling why did the office of the presidency and defense did not carry them along.

I know right, obviously they are going to justify it by saying proforce factory is still small and limited so cannot fulfill that many orders.

I think FG should invest in proforce and expand their factory or give them some kind of zero interest loan to expand, to me that company is a national treasure.
