the wimax technology being deployed by Mobitel does not qualify as 4G, although it potentially offers better speed than the HSPA currently used by MTN and glo. |

flyuche: As a matter of fact MTN and Glo have not achieved half of HSPA max downlinks, they can still tap further Max downlink speed (bps) for the following technplogy is as follows WCDMA(UMTS) 384k HSPA (HSDPA/HSUPA) 14M HSPA+ 28M LTE 100M LTE Advanced(IMT Advanced) 1G For 802.16m 100M for mobile and 1G for fixed |

Laying of fibre optic cables is just a waste of time IMHO. Even Virgin can't do it in the whole of UK. Why can't we just fix NITEL and enjoy the normal ADSL broadband with average speeds of 8meg while discarding those hopeless Starcomms lines. |
Re: Globacom Submarine Cable - Glo-1 by 4llerbuntu(m): 9:17am On Oct 29, 2010 |
the NITEL cables are all gone do you still see them in your vicinity? my area, they have all been taken down and used for other stuff. and i really do think that stringing all those wires up is not nice anyway, the NEPA cables are already so annoying!! hmmn, well way i see it, there is'nt a solution in sight afterall |
Re: Globacom Submarine Cable - Glo-1 by shanda(m): 9:50am On Oct 29, 2010 |
@4llerbuntu What's the solution that u see coming soon |
Re: Globacom Submarine Cable - Glo-1 by puskin: 11:28am On Oct 29, 2010 |
denzel2009: . . . . .and the telcos here too ain't trying to lay them to cover the whole of Nigeria. |
Re: Globacom Submarine Cable - Glo-1 by 4llerbuntu(m): 11:39am On Oct 29, 2010 |
i said is'nt there is not as in you know no,negative, nay, rara, mba, babu. . . . . . . @ pussykin wad up na? Yim? |
Re: Globacom Submarine Cable - Glo-1 by denzel2009: 12:03pm On Oct 29, 2010 |
puskin: Then whats the point of making noise about it. Suffice to say, they would prefer corporate customers. 4llerbuntu: If they can get the infrastructure back in place, faster internet would be feasible in Naija else we'd stick to the same dial-up services they are currently selling. Imagine, an ADSL router would serve more than 5 houses on the same street with good speeds. |

Re: Globacom Submarine Cable - Glo-1 by Djcn: 7:42pm On Oct 29, 2010 |
denzel2009: Who says only Nitel can do it all, other telcos can also deploy ADSL or cable but now FTTH is the choice to beat Glo is deploying FTTN and that's a good developement |
Re: Globacom Submarine Cable - Glo-1 by sauwal: 11:55pm On Nov 04, 2010 |
Pls can somebody tell us the states or cities that has glo fibre optics cable which glo claims is about 10,000km in nigeria? |

I'm sure the FTTN project will take them five years to complete, if the news is true. |

Does anybody know or can anyone guess how many subscribers actively browse on the glo netwok ? MTN & Etisalat are the 2 companies that i know with active data subscribers especially MTN with the new mobile internet packages. Honestly, i have NEVER seen anybody that i personally know that uses glo to browse. Therefore, i am surprised to see where the customers are going to come out from when they start their ADSL services. Remember, its more expensive laying cables than over-the -air services. Therefore, the first packages coming out for the ADSL services might be expensive and beyond the reach of the average nigerian. In another news, MTN BB service is now N3000 per month. This came about as a result of increased competition from Etisalat who has been offering reduced prices for their voice and data sevices & as a result winning over more subscribers. |

Re: Globacom Submarine Cable - Glo-1 by nauvel: 1:32pm On Nov 08, 2010 |
Well, i for one use Glo. Posting with it right now. Apart from all these "fair Usage" crap, the speeds are fantastic. Imagine having a 1-2Mbps connection with a limit of 3-5GB per month, it's frustrating. |
Re: Globacom Submarine Cable - Glo-1 by naijatoday: 3:40pm On Nov 08, 2010 |
samir101ng: I thought it was a promo ? I guess not. I think the main people Glo will target for their ADSL, will be businesses. |
Re: Globacom Submarine Cable - Glo-1 by goggs(m): 4:58pm On Nov 08, 2010 |
i use glo infinito, its crap! Mtn is much much better. Did 2 pings of glo and and got over a thousand millisecs. Its obvious they are still using satellite. That glo 1 launch was PR stunt no doubt. Mtn pings about 180 millisecs. No doubt its main one at work. My hunch is that the low keyed glo 1 launch and lack of a revised tarif since the 'launch' is cos glo 1 is still not fully operational. |
Re: Globacom Submarine Cable - Glo-1 by zoraro(m): 9:32pm On Nov 08, 2010 |
goggs: I agree with you, Glo-1's launch was just a publicity stunt. Shows the kind of a company Globacom is, Totally not serious. |
Re: Globacom Submarine Cable - Glo-1 by nauvel: 7:07am On Nov 09, 2010 |
It's like the engineers at glo haven't figured out how to connect glo-1 to the existing architecture. Meanwhile, Main One that landed after them has been operational for quite a while now. *shakes head at glo's state of mind* |
Re: Globacom Submarine Cable - Glo-1 by goggs(m): 4:38pm On Nov 09, 2010 |
main one has connected a major ISP in ghana. Will post the source link later. (Posting via mobile hence copy and paste is not as easy). |
Re: Globacom Submarine Cable - Glo-1 by Djcn: 7:18pm On Nov 09, 2010 |
samir101ng:3 As a matter of fact, MTN offers the best data services in the country. Occasionally i use glo only when having issues on the MTN link. Glo doesn't seem to be serious with the average subscriber, but they have a large no of corporate clients on their fibre link, i should not be listing names but a i know of three banks on the their fibre links using it currently. Oil companies in the Niger Delta and others firms. The BB service on the MTN platform is just a promo. |
Re: Globacom Submarine Cable - Glo-1 by goggs(m): 9:27pm On Nov 09, 2010 |
Djcn: You dont have to name names cause Glo is featuring them in their adverts for months now. Its UBA, ETB, Dangote, Shell, Nigerian Breweries and a couple of others |

Hi Guys, Was checking around the glo website and came across their internet packages. Men, they have a good combination to suit most users out there. Now, if just only they get their act together and roll out 3G+ network across more states and more coverage in existing ones, MTN is dead. Just imagine these packages on MTN network.

Re: Globacom Submarine Cable - Glo-1 by nauvel: 9:54am On Nov 10, 2010 |
Looking at the new AlwaysMAX plan, i.e 7,500 for 6 GB all day, the others just don't make sense. These packages are senseless 6,000 for 3GB - 8am-9pm 5,000 for 3GB - 8pm-9am 5,000 for 1.5GB - All Day Glo still needs a major attitude adjustment *shakes head in disappointment* |
Re: Globacom Submarine Cable - Glo-1 by flyuche(m): 10:41am On Nov 10, 2010 |
interesting. so have : MTN 8,000naira = 5GB/month glo 7,500naira = 6GB/month |
Re: Globacom Submarine Cable - Glo-1 by lumzi23: 2:26am On Nov 11, 2010 |
I have to admit, that N7,500 for 6 Gigs sounds good. Seems like they are really trying to compete with MTN which can only mean good things. However what I want to know is how it compares to MTN in terms speed, performance and relaibilty. Also, I wish there was some way to know if my location is covered by their HSDPA service. |
