There are about one hundred (100) Historically Black Universities (HBU) in the United States. There are both Government and Private HBUs. The HBUs usually have good support system within the Universities for foreign students. Most Nigerians that are residing in American are graduates of Historically Black Universities.

FLAGSHIP UNIVERSITY
Flagship University is the oldest, largest and most prestigious Government University in a particular state. The Flagship University in a state is usually referred to by the name of the state. For example, the flagship campus of University of Alabama is called Alabama, University of Texas is called Texas, and University of Georgia is called Georgia. Please note that, although the state of Georgia has about 25 Universities using the same name of University of Georgia but only one campus is referred to as GEORGIA.

LARGE UNIVERSITY
There are some Universities (about 50) in the United State that are usually referred to as Large University. A Government Universities that has students’ population of more than 40,000 is usually referred to as Large University. A Private University that has students’ population of more than 20,000 is usually referred to as Large University.
