Twelve months of abduction is being a long time, not enough for any global outrage to save the girls, since the Boko Haram militants stormed a secondary school in Chibok and abducted more than 200 still missing school girls.

For this number of days, the BringBack our girls group has persistently convened for their rescue, saying the fight to see the girls must continue and never to be forgotten.

Ceremonies marking the one-year anniversary of the abduction of more than 200 Nigerian school girls by the terror group Boko Haram continues today and across the world, as the fate of most of the girls remained a mystery.

Starting from Abuja, the Federal capital, a procession will be held, featuring 219 marching girls taking part to represent each missing child.

Similar matching are planed worldwide including London and Washington.

The abduction of the girls in chibok, in Northern Nigeria sparked global outrage with nations like US and China promising to help find them. Disappointedly, it is obvious that Global attention has drifted to other battlegrounds of the war on terror, such as the fight against ISIS, to whom Boko Haram recently pledged allegiance

Though there have been reported sightings of the girls but none has been found.

Boko Haram say the girls have been converted to Islam and been married off.

It has been a whole year of agony for the relatives of the missing 219 chibock girls.

High profile figures such as Nobel Peace Price winner, Malala Yousafzai and US first lady, Michelle Obama were among those who drew attention to their plight on twitter, flash-share and #BringBackOurGirls.

Meanwhile, the campaigners for the rescue of the Chibock girls said the Federal Government had the opportunity to save the girls in the early days of their kidnap but failed to do so.

In a silent match that started across the Nation’s capital on Monday, Abuja, the leader of the bring back our girls campaigner, Mrs. Obi Eziewkezili called on the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, not to give any excuse on the matter as Nigerians have high expectations on their return.

Eziewkezili said, “If we can lose 219 of them without feeling any pain, without thinking that it matters that we must put all our resources at finding them, our better stay as a movement is that our girls could have been found within the first couple of days of their abduction.

“We lost that opportunity, and today, here we are.”

“Like Prof. Wole Soyinka would say, our chibock girls will remain an open sore on the Nation, that when it mattered most, many turned their backs on our chibock girls.” She added.

Nigeria’s military recaptured Gwoza from Boko Haram last March, but there has been little information about what, if any, traces of the girls were found there. Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau has said the girls have been converted to Islam and married off. Relatives of the girls feared the militants had used them as bartering goods and sex slaves.

President Goodluck Jonathan came under heavy criticism for not doing more to try and free the girls, most of whom range in age from 16 to 18.

Meanwhile, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari who will be inaugurated in May, had committed his government and his campaign to do “everything in its power to bring them home” when elected. However, he sounded a note of warning.

“We do not know if the Chibok girls can be rescued,” he told the BBC. “Their whereabouts remain unknown. As much as I wish to, I cannot promise that we can find them.”

The Chibok abductions, while shocking, were not out of character for Boko Haram. Amnesty International, in a report timed to the anniversary of the Chibok abductions, said Tuesday that at least 2,000 women and girls have been abducted by the group since the start of 2014. The report said many of the abductees had been forced into sexual slavery, or trained to fight alongside the group. Amnesty International estimates that Boko Haram has killed at least 5,500 civilians since the start of last year.

Amnesty’s findings have been supplemented by a United Nations report that says Boko Harma often forces women and girls it seizes into marriages that entail repeated rapes.

“Forced marriage, enslavement and the ‘sale’ of kidnapped women and girls are central to Boko Haram’s modus operandi and ideology,” it said. “Abducted girls who refuse marriage or sexual contact within marriage have faced violence and death threats.”

The report listed Boko Haram as one of 45 groups that are “credibly suspected of committing or being responsible for patterns of rape” in conflict.

Meanwhile, the families of the girls are left to wait and hope for a miracle.

I believe what this present administration lacks is the will to find them...
When I mean "will", not just spending money on some generals to do the search but putting much effort and resources into finding them...
