Made a list of all CBMs that grossed $200M+ worldwide and sorted them w.r.t both profit and ROI. Boxoffice of 74 (EDIT: 85. 11 movies were added to the new list) movies were analyzed in total.

EDIT: Many $200M+ CBMs which are not in this list were pointed out in the comments. The list will be updated with those. Most notable miss was the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, which has an ROI of 6.99, making it the actual holder of the highest ROI for a CBM. Kudos to u/Karnas for pointing that out.

EDIT: Here's the updated list (Older one removed).

All CBMs listed in the domestic list of Box Office Mojo and has $200M+ worldwide gross are added. Hope nothing went under the radar this time.

Methodology

Return = (0.5 * Domestic gross) + (0.25 * China gross) + (0.4 * OS-China gross)
Profit = Return - Budget
ROI = Return/Budget
Disclaimer

This post is only concerned with production costs and box office revenue. Non-production costs (such as marketing costs) and revenue from non-BO sources (such as ancillaries) are not considered.

CBMs with $200M+ profit

Ranking Movie Profit (in million dollars)
1. Avengers: Endgame 756.8
2. Avengers: Infinity War 512.3
3. Marvel's The Avengers 436.9
4. Black Panther 393.0
5. Avengers: Age of Ultron 322.0
6. Captain Marvel 318.9
7. Iron Man 3 308.6
8. Spider-Man: Far From Home 301.8
9. Deadpool 291.6
10. Aquaman 289.0
11. The Dark Knight 270.5
12. Joker* 257.5*
13. Deadpool 2 236.5
14. Spider-Man 229.3
15. Captain America: Civil War 225.0
16. Venom 223.4
17. The Dark Knight Rises 220.9
18. Wonder Woman 207.4

CBMs with 3+ ROI (Edited)

Ranking Movie ROI
1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 6.99
2. The Mask 6.64
3. Deadpool 6.03
4. Batman 5.42
5. Joker* 5.02*
6. Venom 3.23
7. Deadpool 2 3.15
8. 300 3.13
9. Avengers: Endgame 3.13
10. Captain Marvel 3.10

Surprising findings

Batman (1989) made more profit than Batman v Superman and Superman (1978) made more profit than Man of Steel.

X-Men: First Class lost money (only $3.9M, but loss nonetheless) on the box office.
Joker

As u/AGOTFAN pointed out the last time I posted a similar list, the budget of Joker is $64M, not $55M.

Joker's domestic gross till 21st Oct, 2019 (3rd monday) and overseas gross till 20th Oct, 2019 (3rd weekend) is considered.

Joker till date has made $321.5M in return ($257.5M profit, 5.02 ROI).

$300M domestic gross and $600M overseas gross will ensure $390M in return, i.e., $326M profit (#5 of all time behind Endgame, Infinity War, Avengers and Black Panther) and 6.09 ROI (#3 of all time behind Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Mask).

It would have to make a return of $426M (beating The Mask) to claim #2 ROI and a return of $448M to dethrone Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to reach the highest ROI of all CBMs.

To beat Black Panther and become the most profitable non-Avengers CBM, Joker requires a return of $457M.

This list will be updated as Joker and other CBMs make further ramblings at the box office.

Now quite frankly, the argument of profitably is irrelevant to me. I had pretty much forgotten about this until I saw this mention. Just felt compelled to fulfill all righteousness.

Am out smiley.

Cc. TheKingIsHere, MJBOLT, Vic2Ree, hulk616

All what you posted from reddit still buttressed all my points as the argument is on profitability and ROI which vic2ree brought in. It is funny you want to now deviate from the point of argument.

From the list, we can see Endgame is nowhere in the list when it comes to Return on Investment (ROI) after the so called huge profit.

And point of correction, according to deadline, Endgame's profit is $650m.

So, if after all this profit, the movie is not amongst the most profitable or amongst CBM with high ROI. So, what's the essence?

Joker, after deduction and everything will make the same profit as endgame if not more, depending on the final outcome.

In terms of profitability, Joker is number 1.

In terms on ROI, Joker at the end of its run, will beat all these marvel movies listed.

To get profitability,

Use the budget (Joker)- $70m.... against the total amount made - $930m (assuming it ends its final run at that amount)

$930m/$70m = x13.28

Joker will give you a profitability multiplication of x13.28

Endgame on the other hand, budget $356m against final outcome of $2.8bn

$2.8bn/$356m = x8

Endgame profitability is x8 while joker is x13.28

Returned of investment (ROI) is the net profit ÷ total amount invested (budget+PA+Distribution)

Jokers net profit is going to be $500m or more but I will leave it at $500m.

Its total production budget is $70m..assuming the spend like $130m on ad, PA and distribution. This will make total amount invested to be $200m

ROI (Joker) - $500m ÷ $200m =2.5

Endgame net profit is $650m while its production budget is $356m + $250m for Ad, distribution and marketing giving a total investment cost of $606m

Therefore,

ROI (Endgame) - $650m÷ $606m= 1.07

Even if I increase its profit to $750m, the ROI will be 1.2 which is nowhere near Joker's 2.5 return on investment.

That's why a low dark Phoenix film that flopped eroded everything that endgame made because the profitability is very low and the roi is as good as nothing.

Even Marvel's CFO (Chief finance officer) stated it clearly that marvel/Disney did not make as more profit as people think.

You can read her statement via https://
cosmicbook.news. /avengers-endgame-not-big-success-disney?amp

You can also check google for more of this

So, as it stands

Joker is most profitable and has higher ROI in respect to CBM.

That's why I said and still maintain thatDC is SUPERIOR

i just tire for them. one of them is even calling marvel the king of losses like... bruh wtf? grin. the mcu has been steady in quality since day 1 without a single flop. just because they've managed to make some decent films of late they now have the balls to diss marvel. heck, even now the dceu is still a bit wobbly whereas mcu are hollywood titans. dc fans breathe, eat and live in delusion.

which DCEU is a bit wobbly DC has been and is currently breaking bounds and trying new things while Marvel has been rinsing and repeating and still not able to make gains from the tired trope

It is quite fascinating that you took the words of a Reddit user seriously just because it suited your agenda.

First of, this is the greatest piece of trash I have ever seen and I mean it. The first screenshot is the actual profits deadline reported Aquaman made which is less than the dead ass Reddit user posted.

Secondly, the second screenshot shows the actual profits Wonder Woman made which of course was higher than what the Reddit user reported again.

Thirdly, the third screenshot indicates how much of a profit age of Ultron made which of course was higher than what the Reddit user reported.

Fourthly, the fourth screenshot indicates how much of a profit black panther made which of course was higher than what the Reddit user reported.

With all that said, you want me to take this your post seriously?

Let it also be known that each screenshot provided evidence of DVD and Blu-ray sales, Pay tvt and network TV. Merchandise sales were excluded. Now tell me how would you expect joker which hasn't finished its theatrical run, does have any DVD and Blu-ray sales, rentals etc to be up of the list. When everything is said and done, joker is more likely to be the MOST PROFITABLE COMIC BOOK MOVIE IN TERMS OF BUDGET TO BOX OFFICE.

Would it be the most profitable comic book movie of all time when everything is added? HIGHLY UNLIKELY, but it would definitely be in the range of infinity war and black panther (meaning 2nd, 3rd or 4th most profitable).

Note: Captain Marvel and Endgame was excluded because they haven't added everything up but the Reddit user must be God to know how big a profit it made.

P.S, Next time try giving reports from a respectable source not some Reddit user analysis

Let them make research and find out that marvel CFO was lamenting that Endgame didn't make anything for them at the end. They don't know that if endgame was highly profitable and had a huge ROI, dark Phoenix won't errode all the profits.

To be fair, Batman is more iconic than Spider-Man in the United States. He predates Spider-Man by two decades. He is supposed to be selling more merch IMO.
Lol, that was the most clumsy excuse ever. It doesn't matter when but how well a comic book character relates to his consumers. There are some characters in the marvel comics that predates their DC counterpart but isn't as iconic. Vice versa. Or do you mean that since Espanyol FC of Spain should be more iconic than Real Madrid since they predates them by 2 years? undecided

Spider-Man only outsold Batman and Superman combined once and he hasn't done it again. This wasn't because of one more day debacle or Nolan trilogy, it was more of consumers preference.
