This was gotten from MissTechy . com

I am a lady, so I can relate with this. According to a post made by an Elizabeth Bentivegna on Facebook, she was denied a job at a Cleveland-based software startup OnShift because she wore too much make-up and looked like she was going clubbing despite the fact that she was extremely qualified for the Job.

The post went viral on Twitter and got a lot of retweets (see that below)

Efforts have been made to contact OnShift, but no responses received let.

I tried not to be biased about the story, till I saw someone’s response, according to him “Her behavior is disruptive.. the inappropriate clothing was merely a prelude. since when have you ever seen a woman programmer wearing a bunch of makeup and high heels. let me answer that NEVER! real programmers know it’s all about showing off your code on GITHUB!”.

Must a Programmer look unkempt before they are taken seriously? Is her outfit really that bad?

Some stereotypes are so annoying. Anyways, the firm knows what they want since they are responsible for her salary.

If she were a man, I am sure she wouldn't have been denied

OnShift just lost a top talent and also laid a foundation for her success.. This is the best driving force ever. In few years, I bet she would be thanking them for not hiring her...

Or I could be just wrong and none of the above happens..

Miss Techy, this has nothing to do with being a stereotype. There are rules you need to follow when attending interviews. The interviewer wasn't pleased with her appearance and he decided not to offer her the job. No strings attached.

And to those saying that a man wouldn't have been treated the same way; that's not true. See, make you be the best programmer in the world and you wear Mohawk come interview, you don finish even before interview start.

Nonsense!

But there are many programmers that are really beautiful & dress well also and are making an impact in the society, honestly, I wasn't going to be biased about the story, but what has looking good got to do with being a good programmer?

How does make up deter her ability to preform her job deligently
Re: Woman Denied A Tech Job Because She Had Too Much Makeup On by Nobody: 8:24pm On Apr 17, 2015
The girl was too full of herself. Thats a food for thought fo all.
Even as an engineer Bfo getting my job I took my time to wear my suit and tie.
Now am employed I can wear polo and jean.
Intelligence is not Basicly the capacity of your reasoning faulty. She is dull in Presentation and thats a minus.

Well one thing am sure of is that....

The company might be afraid that with the level and manner she applied the make-up on her face....

She might take it as a hubby to always visit the rest room every now and for her to be confident of her self.....

Even it it was me.....mere lip glose alone and I won't even interview you...not to talk of even denying you the job....

You can't expect a man who is going for an interview to palm his hair...wear some classy clothes bling bling plus one fashion shoe and expect the company to interview him.....

You are suppose to dress corporately....

A skirt, top and shoe is enough

And for men

You are suppose to be in suits....

That one thing an employee is suppose to know by default

Quite frankly, there's no such thing as "default dressing", The last two interviews I went for I didn't wear suit but I was looking very decent and presentable, so it's not by suit because I got the job for the latter interview. All industries have their peculiar expectations when it comes to dress codes for interviews, there are some companies for which if you go there wearing suit, your suit will disqualify you from the gate. So there's really no such thing as "That's one thing an employee is supposed to know by default.

Thats not true oga.
I understand you didn't have a suit thats why u wore what you had.
There's no job that will turn down suit. That alone makes you stand out anywhere.
Even in an interview for fast food manager all the applicants were on suit.

Maybe she was denied for being a woman, who knows.....

But, whatever the occupation, the right outfit should be worn, it was an interview, a trouser or pencil skirt and blouse or shirt should have at least been given a chance. Unless, they state otherwise, you must look professional and presentable for any interview even If na to work at convenience store.

I am certain when those programmer men had their interviews they wore their best shirt and tie for it.

If you know that there is a likelihood they won't take you, because of your gender, you should do what you need to do to ensure they do not find anything they can use against you. Once you get in, you can change their mindset from there by showing them difference in gender does not hinder your abilities.

The employer didn't refuse her the job because she's beautiful but because he felt she was dressed inappropriately for the occasion.
Just because she attached that picture doesn't mean that's the way she attended the interview. And if that's how she looked when she attended the interview, then maybe the Interviewer is a Deeper Life member. Abi?

Are you a programmer? Ehn! we know you're beautiful. But if your makeup is too much, I won't give you a job.

Beautiful geeky girls.... every male geek's dream.

Well I don't really see her outfit in that picture as indecent except of course I would have adviced her to wear a less 'shouty' skirt that's nothin close to red in color.

But I don't believe this has anything to do with gender. If I was an interviewer, any employer who doesn't look set for the job whether male or female will get rejected too.
So maybe In the eyes of the Interviewer, she didn't look dressed for the office.

True but when going for an interview, it is advisable to dress in "safe" clothing. You don't know the interviewer's preference or mindset so why go with the risky and risk not being taken seriously when you can go with safe? Why give someone a reason to fault you for something so avoidable?
