1500-1860 ATLANTIC SLAVE TRADE
Slaves are sold from nigerian coast, BIGHT OF BENIN/SLAVE COAST AND BIGHT OF BIAFRA. These slaves were the result of TRIBAL WARS....The weaker tribes were sold to Europeans.
BIGHT OF BENIN/SLAVE COAST
-2million slaves leave this area for mainly Brazil (Bahia) and the west indies mainly Haiti and Cuba, then Jamaica and central America (Colombia,Nicaragua,Costa Rica,Peru).
1,3 million makes it to the new world (Americas, Brazil and west indies) while many die on the ATLANTIC OCEAN.
BIGHT OF BIAFRA
1,5 million slaves are sold to whites sold mainly to West Indies Leeward islands and few in Cuba and Haiti and central Americas Honduras, Nicaragua,Panama,Costa Rica, US(most were women here). The BIGHT OF BIAFRA was the most dangerous coast/ocean in Africa as MOST SLAVES WHO DIED ON THEIR WAT TO NEW WORLD WERE FROM Biafra coast. Only 1,2 million landed in new world alive most DIED. The BIGHT OF BIAFRA COAST was known for VIOLENT WATERS.

Slaves in this area were drawn from the Igboland hinterland and few were from Cameroons, Gabon.
Most of these were WOMEN AND CHILDREN, most Spanish, French, Portugese in central and south America and English slavers in southern US avoided buying Igbo slaves as they were weak physically and sickly,suicidal. They avoided males in particular as they were dubbed as being lazy, always complaining and suicidal.
