All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in a shock performance won one seat in Saturday’s Bayelsa State House of Assembly’s rescheduled poll, as massive protest votes against the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, led to the victory of its candidate, Ebiye Tarabina, in Kolokuma/Opokuma 2 constituency. Tarabina, according to the result declared on Saturday night at 11:35pm by Returning Officer of the poll and Senior Lecturer of the Federal University, Otuoke, Dr. E. Roselyn, defeated the PDP candidate, Ongore Ebikeme, by 3,962 to 3,182 votes. Loyalists of PDP had earlier told newsmen in Bayelsa that evening that the party was already cruising to victory in the rescheduled Assembly poll in Sagbama, Southern Ijaw and Kolokuma- Opokuma constituencies. Results collated from seven other constituencies in which the rescheduled election held, had PDP winning amid allegation of undue manipulation and intimidation of voters by armed security men deployed by the state government. With the results, PDP will now retain majority in the State Assembly with 22 seats of the 24 available.
The All Progressives Congress, APC, and APGA have
one seat each with victories from Brass
constituency 1 and Kolokuma/ Opokuma
constituency 2, respectively.
