The truth is that most of the guys ranting here will this evening watch UEFA champions league match on DSTV another SA company. As much as one would condem what is going on in SA, attacking SA companies in Nigeria will amount to shooting ourselves on d foot. We only hope SA govt will b more proactive in combating this ugly act.

He who has ears. Irate Nigerians that are calling for the closure of MTN should understand the consequences. MTN is a law abiding company doing in business in Nigeria, the events occurring in their originating country shouldn't be used as an excuse to promote further divisions between the countries. They're a major stakeholder in the Nigerian economy and we should give them the respect they deserve. We should boycott Shell and other IOCs that degrade our environments with their business operations. Besides, its hypocrisy that a country like ours with a rich history of human rights abuses would seek revenge over acts human rights abuses in another country.

if there was a nigerian telecommunication company in s.a; by now it would have been reduced to its trellises. im not supporting that any violent action be taken? but it takes someone who did not see any picture or video of the killings and maiming that the so called xenophobia brought in its wake; to take such a firm standing against boycott as a form of protest. this is a struggle to force the s.a government into taking an action that can at east pacify the people who lost their loved ones in the attack.
besides, the statement of this Goodluck of a person sounds more of a threat than a solidarity speech to me. he only forgot to add that our darling mtn; employer of 2 million nigerians; saver of the Nigerian economy from crashing, can be nationalised and made to function in the same capacity without anybody necessarily been thrown on the streets.

This man is very silly. Is this what to say at a time like this. To threaten us with job losses ON BEHALF of South Africa. Who do these stupid people think they are. Leave the country please and your business rivals will roll out the red carpet at MMIA. You commend the Nigerian High Commission, threaten Nigerians but what have you said to your bosses, what have you said to your South African country men, what have you said to your silly king because you don't sound like a Nigerian at all. Hopeless display of acute buffoonery on display. Shame on you man.

I am sure u are a staff there, if Nigerians loose 6000, jobs, they would loose more than 30% of their profits, plus another company would most likely take over their assets and mire than half the jobs would be salvaged

And their profits go to mike Ipoki?
The same mtn that has consistently refused to get enlisted on the Nigerian Stock exchange despite the Nationan Assembly's numerous recommendations?
Btw, MTN's shareholders are mainly white and they're not the ones committing the attacks.

All of you here casting mtn are all bunch of hypocrites. Keep deceiving urslf. If you or ur brother, wife,or any member of either ur nuclear or extended family works with mtn nigeria, will u come out and pray for them to lose their jobs? If this 6000 nigerians ( dnt forget dey are nigerians not south africans) will it stop the xenophobia attacks? Some one was talking about mtn warning their government this just shows how uninformed u are. Who says the sa government is in support of this, and who says that mtn has not bn kicking against it. (#SayNoToXenophobia). the mtn u guys are even attacking is practically a nigerian company. Forget the origin. A nigerian CEO, just 12 expatriate which I think makes up just 1% of the companies workforce with 99% nigerians. Be reasonable, this is no threat from mtn, the man is just saying the possible outcome should nigerians pour out their rage on its company. We should seek solution and stop using our hand to dig our own grave.

RUBBISH. How much do those 6000 employees get from Mtn compared to what the 12 expatriates evacuate to their homeland. How dare they approach the issue from a threatening angle. Let them evacuate.Their services are to high anyway.

That is a very useless reaction. Instead of Apologizing, you are threatening us with job losses. Before MTN came to Nigeria, people were hurtling, and long after we nationalize your company, Nigerians will keep surviving. Can you compare job loss to death ? If zenophobia dont stop, not only will MTN be destroyed, Multichoice, Shoprite, Game and other Xenophobic South African companies will be nationalized. Tell that to your Zulu cannibals.

Nationalise the company and withing 5 years it becomes another Nitel or is it Mtel?

Besides do you know how that would impact foreign investment which is essential for the Nigerian economy? That you nationalise MTN to avenge the actions of some uneducated riff raffs from the south African projects.

You really think these people carrying out these attacks care about MTN or even work there or own shares? No they don't.

That is like saying some agbero's from lagos attack Ghanaians and the Ghanaian government close down GTB office in Ghana.

braine:
Very true. They say, when going for revenge, dig two graves. Nigerians wouldn't even do anything sha. The best is for FG to nationalize the company..

MTN Nigeria on Monday warned that should there be attacks on its facilities, it might be forced to close shop and 99 per cent of its over 6,000 workforce in the country, who are Nigerians, would be thrown into the labour market.

It also said that calls for the boycott of its services were unjustified as such an action would affect its support chain, which could cause another 500,000 Nigerians to lose their means of livelihood.

The company stated this in Lagos some hours after two groups protested in its Abuja and Benin offices against the killing of foreigners in its home country, South Africa.

According to the Corporate Service Executive, MTN Nigeria, Mr. Wale Goodluck, there are only 12 expatriates working for the company in the country, compared to a workforce of 6,000 Nigerians.

Goodluck said, “So, if people go ahead with their threats to attack our facilities, what that means is that we may be forced to close down the business in Nigeria and about 6,000 Nigerians that make up 99 per cent of our workforce will be unemployed.

“Then, when you look at our support chain, we have about 500,000 Nigerians gainfully employed. So, boycotting our services simply means destroying so many other Nigerian businesses and making over 500,000 other Nigerians to lose their jobs.

“This business supports a lot of businesses across the length and breadth of Nigeria. Many of the businesses that are affiliated to South Africa are in the retail space, supporting the growth of Nigeria and employing so many Nigerians.”

He noted that the company had spent in excess of $15bn on capital expenditure growing the telecommunications business in Nigeria.

“We see no revenge of Xenophobia and we commend the role the Nigerian High Commissioner in South Africa has played; at least there has been no fatality on the part of any Nigerian,” Goodluck added.

The people in south Africa did not think of the amount of people who will loose their jobs in south Africa. They didn't think of the amount of people in their country that Nigerian businesses are employing before they destroyed those businesses...at the end of the day. You're only trying to protect your interest. I dare you to close shop in Nigeria if your business won't suffer. I'm so sure that Nigeria is your biggest market so stop talking nonsense...You're not the only telecommunications company in Nigeria

No he is a Nigerian. . . He is not threatening us, he is only of the opinion that we use our initiative! Two wrongs can't make a right and let's think about our own people who are gonna lose their only means of survival.. Yorubas do say "we do see even while crying"

And who is crying here. We are angry and you are talking nonsense. Do you know what Nigeria lost economically because of our support for the anti-apartheid movement. Do you know now many multi nationals closed down business in Nigeria in the 70's and 80's at the height of the struggle. Ask your parents about job losses both home and abroad then.

Julius Berger was not the foremost construction company operating here but because they were german and apolitical they entered while the Britis and Americans left. You are complaining of fuel subsidies today resulting from lack of refining capacity. Do you know that Shell and Esso were operating filling stations and could have been running refineries if not for our indigenisation policy as a result of apartheid. We had the foreign investment we are begging for today so let no idi.ot threaten us with job losses because we have gone the full cycle because of that damn country.
