I decided to visit this thread again after along time
Hmmmm.........The arguments though, guess it adds to the fun grin

By the way I rep ITSEKIRI and I've learnt that we are from a collection of Yoruba migrants who settled in the Niger-Delta and adopted the culture of their neighbours.(Not in Rivers state though)
We belong to the Yoruboid classification of languages and of mixed ethnic origins

Anyways I guess that kinda explains my love for Yoruba guys though dunno why but I love em. cool

Akure is Ekiti.... If it wasn't already state capital of Old ondo..... it might as well be in Ekiti today.

read this, brother ....

Part of the History of Akure and environs

The Oba's Palace in the centre of the town was built in 1150 AD. During its long history, the city-state of Akure was at times independent, at times subject to other states. There is a sizable population of Bini origin. Akure was the main base for Benin's trade in the area, and at times seems to have been considered within the western frontier of Benin. The Benin historian Egharevba refers to suppression of resistance by "rebellious Akure" during the reign of Oba Ewuare of Benin (1440–1473), although the king was allowed to remain as nominal ruler. Another rebellion is recorded a century later during the reign of Oba Ehengbuda of Benin.

Akure had regained independence by the early 19th century, but around 1818 it was recaptured by Benin forces and the Deji was executed. After 1854, Akure and other Ekiti towns came under the rule of Ibadan, which lasted until a rebellion in 1876 followed by a prolonged war between the Yoruba states, based mainly on Oyo's eastward territorial ambitions, the Ekiti Parapo or Kiriji wars

Towards the end of the 19th century the British based on their Lagos Colony had established a protectorate over the area, although they ruled through "native" administrations. The British sought to combine the Ekiti kingdoms of the region into a single administrative unit, against resistance by the Ekiti people who preferred local autonomy. In 1899 Ekiti and Ilesha formed the northeastern division of the protectorate. In 1915, Ekiti, Owo and Ondo were combined to form the Ondo Province with headquarters at Akure. Ondo Province later became part of Western State. In 1976 the old Ondo State was formed, and in 1996 Ekiti State was split off from the modern Ondo State, which already had Akure as its capital.

if Ekiti wants to rejoin Ondo State, internet blah is not the way to go about it.

You could have raised the issue during the national confab meeting.

since that is over, then table or debate it at the federal level.

just a suggestion.

though it is not about ekiti joining ondo state, it is about other ekiti towns outside the present ekiti state joining us. It will be difficult for akure as it is already another state capital except there is restructuring of nigeria and states are abolished. But for other towns, it can still happen. Ekiti yeye. Wether we are in ondo, kwara or ekiti state, we see ourselves as ekiti here in lagos o. I know some people from ilaramokin they are always proud of being ekiti.

who are you exactly?

maybe you should start by posting a map of ekitiland as it currently stands outside your imagination.

then you can figure out which state it can join.

I think there are some Ekiti towns in Kwara, maybe some in Kogi. Don't know, you can check Edo also, maybe there are some there.

Why do you seem to think you have any sort of right to tell anyone what or how to think?
We are talking about Ekiti towns outside the present borders of Ekiti state.... nothing more, nothing less... so leave it at that. Ekiti state is more populated than Kwara that has a big landmass, so why exactly should they go back to Ondo?
Re: List Of Yoruba Dialects by toyinakomolafe(m): 11:25pm On May 16, 2015
I think you need to read my post again for u to establish my stand. then study the map of nigeria very well to marry it with the mentioned ekiiti towns outside the main ekiti state.

Ijebu was part of the newer Oyo Kingdom (after the Old one was burned down)... Ijebu has always been a youruba dialect... as for Itsekiri, it is not a yoruba dialect.

Ijebu would disagree with you there as it their claim that They were always independent
Btw Oyo kingdom was not burnt down. ..the capital was, the kingdom survived but lost its imperial powers on others

Itsekiri surely is a Yoruba dialect

ijebu and itsekiri is the same? Unhh? Ijebus are NOT the same with Itsekiris... Ijebu is a yoruba sub ethnic group... Itsekiri should be closer to the Ijaws, Isoko & Urobo tribes!

I rep Osogbo tongue

It's not Oyo, it is IBOLO. The two dialects sound almost the same.

In fact, the combination of the two is the present lingual franca.

Am an Igbo and I know Anambra Igbo is well understood by all igbos while Ebonyi and Abia are the most difficult.

Combination of Oyo and Ibolo
