The OINP is very competitive.
You will need to have a positive LMIA from the Canadian company that’s employing her.
You will need to be on top of the OINP website to know when the portal will be open for application submission.
You will need to start an application on the OINP website during the period when the portal remains open.
You will need to submit a completed application within 14days of opening the application.

As long as you can succeed in the steps above you have a chance to get a nomination.

Whao! Good to know that it's very competitive. I don't think Open Work Permit needs an LMIA based on this link https://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=176&top=17( please, correct me if things have changed).
I applied alongside with my family from outside Nigeria, and we got approved for study permit and Spouse Open Work Permit respectively.The application timeline is between August,2020 and November,2020.

Oh! I'm sorry if I have misinterpreted the information you gave. On their website, LMIA, is indeed , required for the Foreign Worker Stream. There are actually two conditions or options: either an LMIA or a Valid Work Permit( https://www.ontario.ca/page/oinp-employer-job-offer-foreign-worker-stream#section-2). I think a foreign worker with SOWP is also good to apply under this stream, since the other condition( OR a Valid Work Permit) is already in place. Thanks for your input.

The decision to perform a medical or not solely depends on you. No one can make that decision for you. Also note that one thing i have noticed with canadian immigration is that what works for one might not work for the other. I stood to loose nothing. Is it not just mail? I got the documents and attached them, wrote them a mail and sent it. And it worked. So the choice is yours. Instead of waiting, it wont be a bad idea to do a medical, send it, send the exemption mail. Its free. Worst case, they will tell you that you are not eligible. They cant deny you for sending the mail. My thoughts though.

Applied July 9th
Biometrics request July 10th.
Biometrics done August 31st.
Upfront medicals done on same August 31st and sent via mail and webform on September 3rd, on September 4th, cic account updated to medical passed.
Since then no update. Sent a mail for covid-19 exemption as advised here.
Sent promotion letter with new salary at work place. Sent in updated/renewed study permit.
Boom, Nov 6th, BVL, Covid 19 exemption letter and PPR all dropped in 5mins interval.
Thanks to @Opemipo21 and my special buddy @hayqinsbFX, brother from another mother. We have known since our study permit days in 2015. We just chat to console ourselves. I also wish you a favorable and positive processing in your spouse's application.
Kindly note that i applied for gcms, both didnt show anything significant. Infact the last one came on thursday while PPR came on Friday.

Dear Justwise, it is unfortunate that you were so quick to close a thread started on this topic. I know you know a great deal about Canada visas however, not all visas fall under student visa which I believe you have become an expert. There are different types of work permits for working in Canada.
Here are some types that I know of:
SOWP: for spouses of people already in Canada
Open work permit: No restriction on jobs you can apply to and you are not a spouse.
Closed work permit: You need LMIA and must only work for a specific employer.
LMIA Exempt Work Permit: Mostly for people who have been nominated for Permanent residency in a Canadian Province but need a work permit to resume work before PR processing is complete. You are given a work permit letter along with your provincial nomination certificate.

There are some of us who may have a PR application in progress but also have a work permit application in progress. We cannot benefit from the information in the Visitors, Students (Travelling to Canada) and Federal Skill workers program. I have a PR in progress but it is not even under Federal Skill workers/Express Entry.

Anyway, I think this thread (SOWP) applicants is close enough to contain information that might be relevant to our case, though my Work permit is not SOWP. Please do not Close this thread!
