timiekay: I don't mind a helping hand at all since I'm not on 24/7, any helping hand is welcome. Perhaps we can organise some online session over Skype or Google Hangouts sometime. |

I cant seem to be able to add console port to the 2811 router. |
Re: Thread For Cisco Networking by timiekay: 9:50pm On May 26, 2015 |
Console port is on all Cisco routers and switches by default. On your packet tracer, just select console cable (Blue colour). Then click on the router, select console port from the listed ports. Hope this solves the problem? ptoall1000: |

I'm done with mine sir.. 1. 11000000.10101000.00101011.00000001 2. 192.112.48.18 3. 127.0.0.1 [ it's a computer's loop back address, used for accessing the computer's own network] 4. 00001010.00001010.11110001.00001001 4b. IP Classes Class A addresses range from 1.0.0.1-126.255.255.254 Class B addresses range from 128.1.0.1-191.255.255.254 Class C addresses range from 192.0.1.1-223.255.254.254 4c. MAC address is a 48 bit long, layer two address. It is also known as hardware address. It is responsible for controlling how devices in a network gain access to data and permission to transmit it. To get your Mac Address, Launch commands prompt , type "getmac" then press enter.. alternatively, in cmd, type "ipconfig/all" press enter (note Physical address is the same thing as Mac Address To quickly find a MAC address on a Mac with OS X, Open System Preferences from the Apple menu Click on “Network” Select your currently active network connection from the left menu (Wi-Fi, Ethernet, etc) and then click on “Advanced” in the lower right corner Look at the bottom of the window for “Wi-Fi Address”, the hexadecimal characters next to this are the machines MAC address The address is always in the form aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff, looking something like “ce:9e:8d:02:1d:e9″ Note that the wireless MAC address will be labeled as “Wi-Fi Address” in new versions of OS X. 1 Like |

Re: Thread For Cisco Networking by Fulaman198(m): 8:40am On May 28, 2015 |
Kavalier5: Excellent, so you are a bit ahead of the game right now, I would like for you to read up on Public IP addresses and Private IP addresses. Your mini assignment is as follows (I'm not issuing you a large assignment until others catch up): Read up on Private IP address ranges, and answer the following, what are Private IP addresses used for? This is kind of a prerequisite before we get into Subnetting. The most fun subject for all Networking professionals. Good luck, have fun and I'll see what you are up to online. |
Re: Thread For Cisco Networking by Fulaman198(m): 8:41am On May 28, 2015 |
I wanted to add something as well in regards to the loopback address. If you wanted to test functionality of your NIC (Network Interface Card), pinging your loopback address is one way of discerning whether or not you have a faulty NIC. Keep up the reading. |

For the mini assignment: Private ip addresses are used in local networks of organisations.. the can't connect directly to the internet[to connect to the internet, they'll need a router with a public ip]. It's ranges are from Class A [10.0.0.1 to 10.255.255.254.] Class B [172.16.0.1 to 172.31.255.254.] Class C [192.168.0.1 to 192.168.255.254.] One major reason why organisations go for it is because is because it enhances security [ it is difficult for an Internet host to connect directly to an internal system] |
Re: Thread For Cisco Networking by Fulaman198(m): 2:34am On Jun 01, 2015 |
Kavalier5: Correct can you also tell me how you get your internal IP address on a Mac/Linux Machine and on a Windows machine? That's easy I'm sure you already know how to do it. With that said, since no one else is taking this assignment as seriously as you, your next assignment is to read about Subnets, Subnetting and VLSM (Variable Length Subnet Masking). Here is the problem I want you to solve, Fulaman has just opened up a new company in Kaduna called New World Network Engineers. The company is comprised of 750 employees. As a result, you, a Junior Network Engineer has been placed in charge of the IP assignments which will be on a 10.10.4.0/22 IP address assignment. The IP address assignments are as follows: 400 people are normal workers, 70 Workers are Engineers, 100 workers work in maintenance, 15 work in HR, 30 work in Engineering, 50 in QA, and the other 85 work in Technical support. How would you as the Junior Network Engineer assign IP addresses to these departments. What is the range that you will use for each department. Provide the IP address host range, network address, broadcast address and Subnet Mask for each range. For a reference, before you take on that problem, I would like for you to read the following: http://www.9tut.com/subnetting-tutorial and http://www.tutorialspoint.com/ipv4/ipv4_vlsm.htm For a video reference, please watch these videos on Subnetting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xVlgKU_2zA Enjoy the assignment and I will check back periodically. |
Re: Thread For Cisco Networking by Kavalier5(m): 10:58pm On Jun 01, 2015 |
Fulaman198: Getting the ip address on a Windows machine.. open command prompt, type ipconfig it shows it as IP Address..The Mac Address is the physical address. Mac with OS Open System Preferences from the Apple menu Click on “Network” Select your currently active network connection Your IP address should appear under the label "Status." I'm still reading up subnetting. It's really tricky, hope I'll be given more time |
Re: Thread For Cisco Networking by Fulaman198(m): 12:10am On Jun 02, 2015 |
Kavalier5: On a Mac/Linux machine you can also get the ip address by typing "ifconfig" in the command line. You will be given ample time for the Subnetting problem I assigned you. Please let me know if you need any more helpful videos. |

Re: Thread For Cisco Networking by Fulaman198(m): 6:11pm On Jun 12, 2015 |
Kavalier5: Don't worry about ANDing right now. But if you must know, it's taking the IP address converting it to its binary bit formation and then taking the subnet mask and writing it out in binary. When you our addresses are put together, a 0 and 1 bit yields a 0, a 0 and 0 bit yields a 0, but a 1 and 1 bit yields a 1. I'll explain more later. How is the assignment? |
