I think it's a tactic to provide width in attack until the full backs move up to the flanks as opposed to LFS having the full backs start the attack. .that way you can drag their central defenders out wide as they follow Nic and DD, and space is created in the middle to allow Lamps and Essien run through.

With LFS the full backs start the attack. . . the CFs stay in the middle . . and it becomes a bottle neck. So it was easy to defend against us. . . now it'l be a little easier for us to penetrate.

Using one player to run down the flanks opens up the middle. . . If the ball is knocked forwards to DD and Nic, they don't get it and City have to counter, the middle remains intact as a first line of defense with Lamps, Belletti Ballack and Essien making it difficult to penetrate us.

With a dedicated winger on the flanks, that'l mean one player less in the middle and it becomes easier to penetrate our first-line defense and cause trouble . . . how about when use two wingers. . .

I think it's a decent way of playing . . . You might not be very efficient going forward but you are formidable at the back and if you don't concede, you can't lose.
