The financial troubles of Enyimba International
FC of Aba may know no bound for now given its
huge indebtedness to players totaling over two
N200 million.
This startling information was divulged to
Saturday Independent League Zone during the
week by a top official of the club who pleaded
anonymity, adding that the total amount covers
the allowances, sign-on fee and other
emoluments.
The official disclosed that the team has not paid
any of the aforementioned entitlements to its
players since 2002 to date.
This ugly development the official also revealed
is presently affecting the fortunes of the club in
terms of performances at the local and
international levels as the team may not be able
to replicate its 2013/2014 feat to get the
continental ticket.
In a chat ahead of Enyimba Week 5 away clash
at FC Taraba the official said, "Nobody should
blame players or officials if Enyimba is turning
out any good results as maybe expected.
"The players are still being owed huge sum of
money till date and the situation is not getting
any better. Since 2002 till date, it will interest
you to know that the players' allowances, sign-on
fee and other entitlements have not been paid by
the club. Is that how to run football," he queried.
The official warned that, "Except urgent steps
are taken, the club may witness a 'Tsunami' of
players and officials in no distant future because
everyone is tired and just waiting for an
opportunity to strike."
However, the official was quick to conclude by
crediting the club for its magnanimity in the
regular payment of the monthly salaries. "The
monthly salaries is regular, the management is
trying in that aspect."
In same vein, the club management led by
Anyansi Agwu, has never denied the pathetic
financial position of the players at any point in
time justifying the claims leveled against it.
