A 45-year-old commercial driver, Saturday Akpomose, narrowly escaped death last Saturday, Akpomose, who hails from Akwa Ibom State, had gone to the area with his wife to visit his in-law, Mr. Christian Peter, when the dogs pounced on him.

Vanguard gathered that the dogs, owned by a Navy Captain, were being taken out to ease themselves at a nearby uncompleted building, when they saw Akpomose and pounced on him.
The matter was reported at Ogombo Police Division, which referred Akpomose to the General Hospital at Akodo, for immediate treatment due to the severity of his injuries.

His story
When Vanguard visited the victim in the hospital, he said: “My wife and I went to visit my in-law on Sunday. He lives at Okun Ajah Road, in Eti-Osa East Local Council Development Area. Later, on Tuesday morning, I just strolled out of the compound and came across the dogs.

“As I stepped out, I saw a security man coming out with several dogs. They were very huge Alsatian dogs. I was terrified when I saw them and as I tried to go back in, they overpowered the man holding them.

“As I bent down to pick a stone and scare them away, they pounced on me and that was all I knew. They bit me in almost all parts of my body. As I screamed, some residents came out and tried to scare away the dogs with sticks.
“My screams even woke up my in-law who was asleep in the house. At a time, I became weak and unconscious and it was the people who rushed me to the hospital.”

Dogs’ owner intervenes
When Vanguard visited the residence of the dogs’ owner, the Chief Security Officer attached to the building, who identified himself simply as Victor, said: “Immediately I got back home, I explained his condition to my boss who directed me to see his family and take a decision on how to transfer the victim to his own private hospital for proper medical attention.
“We have bought all the drugs they asked us to buy. We are showing the receipt to you just to let you know that we care about the victim.”

Best bet,beware of dogs. The man was just unfortunate he ran into them, many times being still and confident still fail when the dogs are in group. If you are in an unknown territory,watch out for dogs in group.

bodeness is always the key and don't entertain any atom of fear or let the dog sence fear in you!!! I leave with one giant in my haux............commanding tone is also another key!!!..........most times, when it starts its poo, I just tell him to get out of here !!! Or common get inside with bodeness and that's all. But I use to ve one foolish dog like dat, once you carry stick for it then you are in for it!

I remember the day I went to a friends house.
They have a huge compound with three angry caucasian shepherd patrolling around the house.
They've got no gatekeeper, u just open the gate by yourself.
I went in, then one of the dogs was running towards me to attack me,i picked courage to stop walking and stand still.
I thought the animal was just gonna sniff me or play...but instead,the beast pounced on me and was trying to bit me,while the other two came out 4rm the back of the house.

The dogs handler should be queried. U don't take a whole 7 of such dogs out at a time for any reason. It is deadly! He could easily have fallen victim himself. As indicated in the story, he simply lost control of the dogs resulting in that victim's calamity. Just one of such Alsatian dogs could be very difficult to handle wen the beast in him manifests! On a lighter note, methinks the dogs just wanted to proof their agility and ferocity to the owners since they'd not been put to task possibly since they were bought! I have been a victim of dog attack before n unfortunately I also own a dog that has attacked 2 people. Though on both occasions my BM tot I was in danger n trying to protect me by attacking first. When it's a lone dog, it's best not to run. Stand ur ground n stand tall. When they are in a pack, check to see if there's shelter u can get to close by before they get to u. Mind u it has to be close cos u can't outrun a pack of dogs in open field. If there is no close by shelter, then it's to plant ur foot, stand sideways n probably b ready to fight.
