QUESTION AND ANSWER ON PAYING TITHE - Is a must to pay tithe?

QUESTION: Can we stretch this biblical teaching also to the subject of tithe? Especially when you consist that tithe is also an Old Testament practice abolished by the death and resurrection of Jesus. Plus the fact that no reference in the new testament of the Apostles paying tithe either of agrarian or monetary. Kindly shed light on this issue. Thanks,

Glad to hear from you. Tithe is different from first fruit. Tithe is a must for every child of God, Jesus Christ approve tithe in the New Testament. Matthew 23:23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone." - we ought to pay tithe and live just and righteous life at the same time.

Paying tithe without living a righteous life leads to judgement of God at the end. Jesus Christ declared "WOE" on the people paying tithe from the money gotten through ungodly means, money from a contract through bribe, money from job you falsify your age to get, money through immoral act and on people who willingly give tithes but refuse to give their lives completely to Him.

Tithes from ungodly means and unsaved people are not acceptable to God. The modern church will tell you that everybody should give tithes - both saved and unsaved, but Jesus says there is something more important you need to first give God - your soul! You will need to first give your life to Jesus Christ, then you must pay your tithe faithfully.

Where and who to pay tithe to depends as the Spirit of God leads you. It is not a must to pay to a church you attend. You can send your tithe to missionary, village church, needy ministers of God or some times to support brethren in urgent need when you don't have other means to help.

The poor and the needy in God's house where fed from it.
But in Nigeria and in my church, pastors work and therefore shouldn't eat from tithes.
Also the poor and needy are encouraged from God's word but not from tithes.

am pastor as well I have study that verse they quoted I mean mathew 23 vs 23, if we should follow the principal of the meaning of that verse then all the laws of old testament must be examined and practice by the levites , we the pastor but only the tithes was adopted and the rest was thrown away that's an hypocrite , if we should follow christ who is the founder of and beginner of christianity then there is no room for tithes .2)in that verse Jesus was directing that curse to the followers of mosaic I mean the judaism, no where in the bible Jesus receive tithes and no where in bible in new testament where tithes were mandated to be paid. And they are some verses that make compulsory for a every man be it bishop or any office you occupy in church must work to provide for your family.3) tithes was never in the christianity practice what was there in the beginning was donation check act of apostle 4vs34, what do you understand by that?.4)check how the tithes get its way into church today you will see that it was introduce by roman catholic in rome when they wanted to build the city of vatican that was when they started practising tithes in church it was not like that in the beginning. Tithes can't get you to heaven read your bible you will understand.5)mind you am not in total support of condemning paying of tithes ,yes we can still pay the tithes willingly if someone want to activate heavenly blessing or make tithes as a vow between and God, since we donate the way we had it in the foundation of christianity then tithes serve as supplement to , you won't a man who has 2 plots of land to sell it and bring all the money in church no no I think tithes is okay. Buit we pastor must preach on it like our lives depend on it that may hinder heavenly race sir. Than you.

Am happy Peoples understanding is beginning to open, Cause the gullible follow "Man of God" instead of the Bible. No where in the New Testament were we asked to pay tithes, in OP's reference, Jesus was talking about keeping the whole law, are we under the law? the stealing in the name of Tithe is too much. An Usher in the Church told me the major collection is from tithe, then I understood why the greedy pastors refuse to preach the truth, but God is watching them in HD.

Let me shed more lights on this topic about tithing, please pastors in the house don't misquote Jesus Christ in Matthew 23:23,he clearly said to the pharisees that they pay thithe on mint and Cummins but neglect the welthier matter of the law.(are we still under the law)? No,we are not under the law anymore. So if tithe is so important why didn't Jesus clarify it here, rather he said mercy,justice and faithfulness are more important than tithing.

Many pastors have made it mandatory for there members to pay tithe,and brainwashed them to believe that if u dnt u r cursed. That u r robbing God,different means to cajole u to pay tithe.

Tithe is not mandatory but voluntarily, give as u wish but not grudgingly.

Now since the death of christ has abolished the law,we are no longer living under the law inclusive the mosaic law that gave the law tithing. Apostle Paul said that whoever abide by the law wil be judged by the law. Christ has redeemed us. Glory be to his name.
