8 Revealed Truths About IVF by Nobody: 7:49am On May 04, 2015
Every female grew up into believing that she will be able to get pregnant and have children at will or when she decide the time is right for her, and most of our education about fertility focuses on ensuring that we know how to prevent unwanted pregnancies.

It therefore comes as a surprise to discover how common it is today for women to have difficulties getting pregnant, and couples having problems having their own children. It is also a surprise to find out how many things can go wrong.

Although we may have heard of IVF treatment, we don’t expect it to come into our lives. Even when we find ourselves failing to get pregnant month after month and years after years, we still assume that we will be offered some other less complicated solutions and IVF would he a last resort.

The truth is that more and more females and couples are beginning to consider IVF as the immediate possible alternative if they must to have children as at when they desire it. It is not until they reach that point that they discover quite how little they know about what is involved in getting a woman to become pregnant.

It is now very obvious that not every woman can get pregnant the normal way; therefore, there is the need for IVF assistance. Below are certain truths about IVF.

1. What is IVF Treatment?
IVF means in vitro fertilization; it is a treatment form of assisted conception used to help women with infertility problems, women who cannot get pregnant on their own. During IVF treatment, eggs are fertilized in the laboratory, rather than inside the female body as would happen naturally.

The term in vitro means ‘in glass’ and so people often assume embryos are created in glass test-tubes during IVF, which led to the expression ‘test-tube babies’. In fact, eggs, sperm and embryos are kept in plastic dishes in the laboratory, and the phrase in vitro has a more general meaning of ‘in an artificial situation’, or outside the body.

In simple terms, IVF involves taking eggs from a woman’s ovaries, and mixing them with sperm in a dish. If a sperm breaks into the egg and fertilizes it, it will become an embryo. If all goes well, one or more embryos can be transferred to the womb, where it is hoped they will flourish and result in a full grown pregnancy.

2. IVF Treatments are More Successful When Using Donor Eggs
The rate of success for IVF goes down significantly with a woman’s age; so most fertility doctors recommend that donor eggs be used in order to achieve the 40-45% chance of live birth.

This particular choice is often faced with criticism because couples want children that are 100% biologically related to them. In any case, if it is your intention to get pregnant and increase the chance of going all the way to the delivery, this is one option that should at least be considered and explored.

3. Birth Control Pills are used as Part of the Process
Before a patient is subjected to IVF treatments, the fertility doctor will prescribe birth control pills in order to inhibit the ovarian cysts as well as ovarian hyper-stimulation syndrome.

While this might seem a bit odd, it is actually counter intuitive because it increases the chances to conceive by a large margin. Following the instructions of your fertility doctor will help greatly in achieving pregnancy and 9 months later give birth to a bouncing beautiful baby.

4. The Risks and Results
According to the latest study, only 20-25% of IVF treatments have so far resulted into pregnancy. It is also noticed that IVF success rate in younger women is more when compared to women’s over 40 years of age.
