NEWS NUGGET- MTN licence to expire in 2016, threatens to hike tariff if

MTN Nigeria has threatened to hike its tariff if Nigeria’s government made its licence conditions more stringent as its licence will expire in 2016. Andrew Bing, chief financial officer of MTN Nigeria told Bloomberg that “Tougher rules, tougher regulations, greater demands ultimately will impact price, the more you charge up front or the more you demand over a period of time. Well, somebody has to pay for it. Ultimately, the subscribers are the people who will have to pay.”

REFLECTION - MTN Nigeria made $2,6B Profit in 2014. NIGERIAN, relief is just one year away for Nigerians. This is a negotiation every Nigerian will be involved in. How can a company make so much and is not required to keep a percentage here? How can a company make so much and is not required to be quoted in our stock market for Nigerians to benefit? This leakage must stop. How can they justify tarrif increase from their license renewal with this kind of profit? Nigerians are very alert and this will be one negotiation they will be involved in. To qoute Olisa Agbakoba "MTN makes much money in Nigeria than Dangote Group of Companies and all the banks put together. Yet, they have nothing here"

Ok...

I am sure indigenous capitalist can venture into this space now and break the market owned by the yellow South African Telcoms behemoth.
The likes of Atiku, Tinubu and co should invite telcos in India and other parts of the world to invest in Nigeria. In addition, I think businesses should be long term players in all sectors of the economy.

Why did MTN accept a five-year license in the first place? Little wonder, why they have succeeded in drilling boreholes on the pockets of the users.

Anyway, I have never been successful using that network and don't plan to use them either.

That company? is by far the most ruthless scammer on the face of the earth. If I have my way, their lisence shouldn't even be renewed. But then who will fill the void? Another scam artist ripping Nigeria apart as rulers busy themselves looting elsewhere. We are going to have an 80 year old president who doesn't even know how to use a phone in the year of our lord 2016 . Does he understands how these things workk elsewhere? With his 50 million a month pension, has he ever felt the pain of an exhorbitant recharge card? No. Nothing is going to change. Ineptitude is still the order. Innovative negotiations can't come from a senile leadership groping in darkness.

Government should do the following:

1. All the big 4 operators should be quoted on the NSE

2. They should restructure their products to give room for SMEs to resell their services using the Mobile Virtual Network Operator Model, as obtainable in the UK where Virgin is an MVNO. This way, many companies can emerge, thereby employing Nigerians.

3. Foreign calls to Nigeria must be costlier than Local calls.

4. The operators should be barred from some retail services such as Bulk SMS, Domain Registration/Web hosting and design. The operators should only be back-end service providers. The retail end should be left to Nigerians and Nigerian firms to handle.

What do Nigerians really have against MTN .. The claimed MTN was extorting them the NCC approved number portability so they could run away from horrible MTN services but surprisingly they have refused to port .. All I know all the Telcos in Nigeria are the same and if you have ever had anything to do with rest you will know MTN are still angels

So the fear of Buhari don dey catch MTN. Chai

The mistake of a company is glorification for another. Let them increase their tariff, who will loose? It is an answered prayer for Airtel and Etisalat to triumph beyond their limits.

MTN seems to forget they are in for competition. Any slight mistake is for their downfall.

Even, does Globalcom still exist?

If you don't like MTN use another service provider. We have a country of 170M people, please start your own telecom company and do with your profits whatever you like. MTN owes you nothing, but a good service for the money you pay for recharge. You cannot compel them to list on your stock exchange or hinder them from taking 100% of their profits home.
