The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Monday said that President Goodluck Jonathan should not hold the National Working Committee (NWC) responsible for his loss of the presidential election which held on March 28.
According to PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, Jonathan lost the election because the party and its leadership were not carried along and their advice was ignored.
“We did not lead the party to failure, we were not involved in the campaigns and our advice was ignored. If we had handled the campaign, Mr. President would have won the election. We cannot be held responsible when our advise was ignored,” Vanguard quoted Metuh to have said.
The PDP secretary noted that hate campaign by the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation against the APC and its presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari resulted in the failure of the party. He stressed that members of the NWC who played no significant role in the 2015 presidential campaign of the party can never be held responsible for the president’s failure.

He also said that the NWC was never involved in the disbursement of campaign funds, while reacting to an online report that NWC members shared part of the presidential campaign funds among themselves. Rather, he said that the party spent over N4 billion to sponsor candidates in the presidential, governorship, National Assembly and the House of Assemblies elections.

PDP must be re-structured for 2019, the current chairman, the NWC and all the executives who were in office during the last presidential election must do the right thing: Which is to tender their resignation to the party to give room for fresh hands and brains who will led the restructuring of the party to reposition it for future elections.

The international best practice the world over is for party executives who couldn't deliver during elections to resign voluntarily, But since this is Nigeria and we don't volunteer for anything, the PDP executives,NWC and BOT etc might need a little nudging by the relevant entities to do the right thing.
