She's human n made a mistake which is not the sum of her personality.Let the guy work on a relationship reset for a new beginning for them all.The burden is on the guy who saw good qualities in her over their time together to want to wife her,to ensure a bridge building between two of the most important women in his life.He sure needs both of them in order to have his life in balance.Good luck!

My 2 cents

Unless the mother has other reasons, I don't think that's a good enough reason to tell her son not to marry the girl it's petty as far as I am concerned if she was offended she should have cautioned the girl the way she would caution her own daughter and say my dear things are not done that way. As for me I find it difficult to eat outside my home. The first time I met my inlaws I ate there only because my mother inlaw called me to ask me what I wanted to eat but after that time the only time I eat there is when I cook or a caterer cooks because I do not like my mother in laws cooking but instead of saying no I opt for fruits instead. Then Pls why is the girl spending the night there? That's something my folks will never allow

A young man has been dating this lady for about 2 years,They both have jobs, and get along well. The guy decides to take the relationship to the next level(Marriage). He calls his mother and tells her he will come to show her his wife to be. They traveled about 3 hrs to get there.

They got to the mans family house, she greeted the mans mother very well and everyone was happy. As the conversation went on, the mother inlaw went to the kitchen, came out and asked the girl where will she eat? in the parlour of dinning table? The young girl innocently said, "No ma, dont bother i am not hungry" . She said ok and brought pounded yam and soup for the man and he ate .

Conversation went on normally and they slept and traveled the next day. When he got back to base, called the mother and told her he had arrived. The mother said thank GOD, but what she wants to tell him is that, it is over her dead body that he will marry that girl that refused her food. He said all attempts to explain that they ate before getting there fell on deaf ears.

She said he has to choose between her and that girl.

I discussed this with some mothers, and they all said they would have done the same. No who is right and who is wrong ? Whose side are you on? the Lady or the mans mother.?

If you were the guy, what would you do? Marry her without your mothers blessing or find someone else ?

now whats the difference of this reaction and the Indonesia that are sentencing 8 igbos to death for smuggling drugs

the punishment is too much, cuz the mother is just over reacting, if i were the guy i will go ahead if that's he only reason

Maybe she would have dropped money on the floor to know if she will pocket it. How else do u expect the mother to know who she if not by first impression.

The test have not even started and she failed. The mother is only trying to protect her son. Lets assume the yeye girl is shy, when she was asked, she should av looked at the guy and use sign language to know if she shld eat or not. She just jumped without consultation and made her choice.

This is the most reasonable post I have read today...

The guy's mother is right..

1) the lady should have joined his mother in the kitchen and should have aided her in the preparing of the food..

2) the lady failed the so called "mother in-laws" test.. Refusing to eat the food from your potential mother inlaw is considered highly disrespectful and condemnable..

The girl is a wolf in sheep's clothing, and the mother has clearly seen that she isn't the right person for her son..

My mum must give me another empirical evidence why I must discontinue the relationship. Simply refusing a meal does not mean anything, in fact my dad would see you more decent and not a glutton. On the other hand she at least have requested for a drink to humble herself or help with the dishes after the meal. On my first visit to my ex's place... lipsrsealed

Wooow a very nice one. . . . In this part of igbo land or maybe in igbo land as a whole, taking something offered to you is a sign of acceptance.
tho am not sure many people still care.

the girl may not be hungry and thereby she didn't eat the food due to that and i see nothing in it, but she created the wrong impressing on the woman owing that she may think the girl left the food because she was rude and didn't want to touch her dish.

its just misunderstanding, the girl may have done it innocently and the woman misunderstood it. i dont blame any of them.
the girl is an African she should have known the implications of her actions from the unset, she just acted like a white woman. at least she should tasted the food.

anyway i think she should apologize to mama and tell her she didn't mean it the way she took it, she's a Nigerian so i trust she can conjure up a very nice lie..wink

I keep wondering what manner of ladies are groomed nowadays. It clearly shows that her own mother has not prepared her well for marriage. Most ladies nowadays don't know anything about marriage. Yet they complain of broken relationships and failed marriages here and there. The only thing they knw how to do is arguments and showing that they surf the internet more Tha anyone else, some even go the extent of just pinging all day long on useless things. Morals should be taught by parents , courtesy should not be neglected while real life scenario should be learnt and they should just stop living in fantasy.

You need to be going to your village once in a while!
This thing you are speaking is English, its when such situation comes to you that you will understand how seriously mothers take things like this!

The lady stayed all through the night to the next morning without tasting the woman's food? That's crap!
Who is she forming for? Her would-be mother-in-law?

Even if she's having cholera, she should have eaten that food no matter how little or join her man to eat his. Or she should have told the mum that she has 'running stomach'!

My dear, if you are not yet married just learn from this situation, period!
I don't need to go back to my village to see my mum or know how things are being done in my own family, as I said earlier my mum is not petty, she would only ask if you are sure about being ok or tell you to alert her in case you need anything shikina!
Eating a would be MIL food can't automatically turn a bad fiancé to a good one.

this story makes no damn sense.... if they were going to meet the mother then why did they ate before getting there? and if they really did then why the BF ate again at mum's place? its either they both dont eat or they both do.

if BF told his mother prior to they arrivals that they were coming then OF COURSE mum is gonna cook and therefore they had no business going to eat befopre getting there. he should have forced his gf to eat, however little it may be.

way forward: beg mama for forgiveness by telling her that HE made the mistake by taking her to some eatery before going to meet her, and with time mama will understand.
Be careful with your 'ate' please.

Well, I've learnt not to judge but let me just judge a little. I remember when my ex took me to his family house to meet his mum. we got there around 8pm. Now, as a rule, I don't eat once it's 7pm, but I made that day an exception, when his mum brought out dinner for us at 8pm. I wasn't hungry, and I had a tooth ache that day as well, but I managed to munch something out of the dinner served. Infact, I almost cleared what we had on the plate, not because I was hungry, but I wanted to appreciate the woman's time and effort, she put into making that meal.... Now, what am I driving at? it's kindaa rude to reject such food, and I'm sure the poor woman spent all day in the kitchen, getting that food ready for his son and his future daughter in law, so the least the girl could have done was to eat something, no matter how little.... and the girl didn't even try putting the statement nicely.......
OP, I understand your mother, give her time to calm her down, ok. Rem, that's not enough reason to abandon your rship........and please tell that your girl to behave ooooo, wetin sef.

Now to all ladies and gents, first impression matters a lot, so please make sure we give it our best shot.
Re: Judge This Case by chigoizie7(m): 8:20pm On May 06, 2015
From were I come from, the mother has done absolutely nothing wrong.

Even u wey be the gal, assume u wanted to travel home from ur base and u called your mother and told her u will be coming home,of course ur mother will prepare something for u to eat when u come no matter how small it is. And then u finally arrived and then u are offered the food and u told her that u are not hungry.

Courtesy demands that for meeting ur in laws for the 1st,u should know that it is ur job to welcome them as ur own an them doing the same.

Your boyfriend now told u that u will visit the family, u got there the poor woman welcomed u with open hands even offered to serve u and u rejected it(the very 1st thing she offered to her would be daughter-in-law and She bluntly rejected it with the excuse that u both ate b4 coming) didn't that ur bf also ate with u b4 coming? Yet she accepted mamas food nd u didn't .

Now tell me how u think she can ever accept anything from u if eventually u are married?

2. She was in the kitchen sweating and cooking and u were @ the sitting room either watching TV or gisting. What impression are u giving her? It simply means that u are un-cultured. Even if u are not hungry, u should ve @least lick the soup,it doesn't add anything to ur tommy.

Nne u failed woefully, I don't even need my mother to tell me that u fuvcked up big time.

Any sensible man that hears such story will willingly support the mother ASAP. including ur siblings, we all know that ur marriage to that boy is not just about him but about the entire family, if that woman instigate all her children against u, nne u would ve opted to being a nun, because they will remove that thing that makes marriage to sweet from urs ASAP.u might think ur bf will be with u, at the initial stage yes, he will,he will support u,but then when he will start misbehaving who will u run to?(Marriage is not a bed of roses, it can only stand the test of time by the help of people around the marriage) we fall out of love every once in a while, were do u think he will go to when he fall out of love with you?his family and then they will blatantly remind him of the reasons they objected, but if u are in good terms with them, they can even beg on your behalf.

Anything u will do now will sound more like a medicine after death(there are certain things in life that does not need a second chance).

In this very case I will choose my mum without any second thought.

There is this very girl that I once dated, this girl went and became friends with all my male friends. I really suffered oooh, because no matter wetin this very gal do,my friends will always support her, @times I will want to toast another gal those guys will refuse and will always remind me that I have a gf already, they always had her back. If she does something bad and I refuses to accept apology, she will just pick her phone and call all the guys and tell them what really happened and then she will beg them to plead on her behalf, nd it works like magic. This is a gal that will go to the bar and buy beer for me and my friends with her money, whenever she wants to visit she will like to get smthing that will go round, fruits, fries and soo many things. My friends liked her for that. Funny enuf, that was my longest relationship ever since I started dating.

So my dear, u aint just getting married to ur guy,but also to the family. If not, prepare to live in hell on earth.
