Ohanaeze Chief Threatens Igbo Will Secede If Marginalised by 500GP: 6:10pm On May 12, 2015
The Chairman of state Presidents of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a socio-cultural organization, in seven Igbo speaking state, Dr. Chris Eluemunoh, on Tuesday warned against any attempt to “further marginalise” the Igbo in Nigeria.

Eluemunoh, who spoke with newsmen in Awka, the Anambra State capital, said such attempt would be greeted with a strong move for self-determination by the Igbo.

For him, Ndigbo had such concluded on such option, waiting for the “opportune time” to use the joker.

He said already, the United Nations had invited some Igbo elders, to hear them out about their demand for a sovereign state for the Igbo in June.

He said former National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr. Dozie Ikedife, would be leading the Igbo delegation to the United Nations in June.

Eluomunoh, who was speaking against the backdrop of speculation that the incoming government of President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, might marginalise the Igbo because the people of the South-East voted against him in the just concluded general elections.

He said some time last year, the African Union had also granted an Igbo delegation a similar audience in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The Ohanaeze boss said the best path the Buhari administration would toe would be to discuss with Igbo leaders on how to chart a viable course for the country.

Eluomunoh added, “Buhari must give us one additional state to put us at par with our other brothers. He must also implement the report of the National Conference. If he turns his back to that report, he is turning his back to the unity of Nigeria. If he kills the report, he is killing the unity of Nigeria.”

He admitted that the change that came to the country after the last general elections was a welcome development, given the fact that the Peolpes Democratic Party had stayed on the stage for a long time.

The Ohanaeze chief opined that there would be no real change in Nigeria if there “is no structural change” in the country.

Eluemuno disowned the Chief Ralph Obioha-led Ohanaeze Caretaker Committee, which visited Buhari and canvassed for appointments for the Igbos, dismissing report of any conflict in the organisation

I remember some one said "he is becoming president at the wrong time"

Well, for me the statement portrays two negativities.
Either he has forseen inevitable failure that lies beyond sight OR he understands that American prediction, about US this 2015, is not mere say.

SS/SE were the old eastern region and automatically wen one exit the other follows.

They were together before Nigeria, before the Northern protectorate joined them and the Lagos Protectorate joined them.

They were the southern protectorate of Nigeria.

All they keep on seeking is for their 'son(s) or daughter(s) to be in power forgetting that these same persons wont bring development to them one bit!!!!
A case scenerio is Abia state! They wont compel Orji to develop Abia but they'll seek recognition under a govt they NEVER supported!!!!!!!!

Really! How is marginalisation measured? Whatever they do they shouldn't forget to separate SS from SE.

Everybody has the right to self
determination and the SS don't want to share with anybody, they don't want to share 'it' with people who voted them into union one Nigeria . . . Lol

I am here to read tribalistic comments from both sides of the divide and try to understand the kinda hatred that lives in the heart of men.

With the kinda statements some people make, the devil has nothing on them. You begin to wonder how they sleep at night with such festering anger, rage and malice towards their fellow man and they blame witches for their failure grin

That said, I don't think it's wise to threaten the incoming president with secession. There are better ways to go about making your point than labelling yourself as an enemy of Nigeria especially given the fact you are meant to be an elder, sir.

Anyway, I know this doesn't represent the opinion of the whole Ndigbo. Surely, they know better than this.

With all these threats here and there you would have thought that the South East and Niger Delta regions were turned into Dubai by the outgoing president during his tenure. Please you guys should let Buhari actually get into office first and have a chance to do the job he was elected to do. If this is just some ploy to beg for position try a different tact. I think majority of Nigerians are more interested in the job getting done than where the person who is doing the job comes from all in the name of "carrying everybody along". Let Buhari get in and do his job. If you had expended all this energy on Jonathan perhaps he would have performed.

He should speak for himself because he would only secede with his family.
Ibos have as much stake and would thrive best in a united Nigeria as any other forward thinking tribe should know.
What should be fought for is equity, justice and empowerment of people, not this primordial obsession for political appointment based on ethnic sentiments that does no one no good.
What for eg has 6yrs of GEJ govt benefitted the Ijaws, rather than d archaic, feel good mentality that "our son is there".
Igbos, before these monsters and sycophants that call themselves Igbo politicians in this present dispensation, were known for striving for having d best leading and speaking for them. But what do we av now, clowns, thugs and criminals in the make of the Orji Uzor and Theodore Orjis, the various Ubas, the Olisa Metuhs of this world. With these set that think only of their pockets, the Igbos have systematically marginalized themselves and almost turned itself into a minority tribe if not for individual efforts of its own people that still try to hold their heads high wherever they find themselves.
If not for these individual efforts with the accompanying prominence and noise their efforts generate and if Ohaneze of whichever faction, had been allowed to dictate d course of Igbo affairs,by now oba Akiolu would have carried out his threat of driving Ibos to d lagoon, after all d same Igbo chiefs were smiling and even clapping for d oba when he made his ill adviced threat.
Igbos would remain in a Nigeria and find their place in the body polity through genuine efforts, not thru threats of a group noted more for their lust for their pockets than for a genuine Igbo cause.

Abegi, make them carry go. We sef don tire for all their mouthing. Upon all their noise about seceding, they are still moving to other parts of Nigeria in droves. They have made it clear they want out, so they should just go already. I for one would respect them if they follow it through. Enough of these empty threats, please.
