by Samm Audu
Nigeria midfielder Kingsley Sokari will debut for new Tunisian club CS Sfaxien on Wednesday against Hamman-Lif after his international transfer papers came through today.

“We have received the player’s ITC and he will now make his debut on Wednesday at home in Sfax,” his representative Vincent Alumona disclosed.

A lot is expected of the former Enyimba midfielder after he scored in CSS final training playing for the probables.

Sokari, who has signed a three and a half year contract with CSS, was set for his debut at the weekend at Etoile du Sahel, but the Tunisian club could not complete the payment of his transfer fee for Enyimba to approval the release of his ITC.

CSS have been toppled at the top of the league by Etoile after they lost 3-1 to the 2015 Confederation Cup winners at the weekend.

Both teams are on 25 points after 10 rounds of matches.
Hamman-Lif are 12thon the 16-team championship with 10 points.

Kehinde Fatai is not a Super Eagles material. Take that to the bank. Romania can have him if they want. We've got better players lined-up already waiting for their call-up.

Don't you guys remember him from the 2009 Flying Eagles? Odion Ighalo was the main striker then and Kehinde only featured as a sub in our 3-2 lose to Germany in the second round. Person wey been no fit trap ball well sef. Odion Ighalo, Danny Uchechi (another flop) and Kehinde Fatai were the 3 centre forwards we paraded at the 2009 U20 World Cup. Only Ighalo managed to put up an average performance the other two (Fatai and Uchechi) were flops.

It is good enough that we are getting updates on the progress of some of our Europe based players here. But not all of them are Super Eagles materials.
chai u mean his present performances do not deserve a call up? u want to rate a player and u make mention of 2009 heck dats 6 long years ago.
look at players during the keshi era-john ogu, fegor ogude, oduamadi,Anthony ujah, gambo, ameobi, bright dike. SIR pls what makes these guys eagles material that doesn't make kehinde fatai 1? sir comparing the performances and statistics of these guys before they got their call up and that of kehinde fatai at present and tell me who deserves a call up.

Dalung Bars NFF from Clearing Players for Rogue Clubs in Europe

By Duro Ikhazuagbe
The Minister of Youth and Sports Solomon Selcap Dalung has barred the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) from clearing players of the national Under-23 team to clubs in Europe without an appropriate developmental framework.

Dalung’s position is in line with earlier statements made by the NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, that players in the age-grade teams that have excelled in both continent and global stages would not be released to any foreign club that has no developmental plans for the Nigerian emerging stars.

The minister’s directive in Abuja yesterday follows discussions he had with the NFF chief to stem perceived illegal clearance of players for dubious football agents.

Dalung further warned that International Transfer Certificates should not be issued without serving the interest of the player.

According to a press statement issued by the minister’s Special Adviser on Media, Nneka Ikem Anibeze, Dalung who is a lawyer said that it was unfortunate that the young players who had brought glory to the country after winning the African Under-23 Championship in Senegal and the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile were being cleared to clubs without the players’ understanding of the contract they were being made to sign.

“It has come to my knowledge that these young players who are the source of our pride in world football are currently being subjected to harassments and manipulation of signing for clubs without them even understanding the content of the contract.

“Therefore, I have directed the NFF which has the authority to grant licenses to these players to refrain from endorsing any of these slavery transactions without a clear framework that follows the due process required for such contracts,” observed the minister.

The minister further stated that as custodians of sports in the country, the Ministry of Youth and Sports will not close its eyes to slavery contracts of players without their consent.

“It will amount to moral suicide if we sit and watch the future of these young players not only being traded but also negotiated in the interest and benefit of some selfish agents and football officials.

“Any of such purported transactions that violate not only laid down procedures but player’s rights to choose will not be recognised,” stressed Dalung.

The minister urged agents and players who intend to play elsewhere to get appropriate clearance of which the sports ministry will be part of the process.

Ighalo Won’t Set Goals Target, Hails Flores Impact

Nigeria striker Odion Ighalo has refused to set any goals target and declared that his current coach Quique Sanchez Flores is one of the best coaches he’s worked with in his career.

The Watford top scorer this season also added that Flores intelligence has seen him achieve immensely at the club following his arrival in the summer.

Ighalo also refused to set targets for himself this season having scored 12 goals so far in 17 games.

“He is one of the best coaches I’ve worked with in terms of game plans and encouraging his players.

“He is a very intelligent guy and deserves big credit for everything we are going through now," Ighalo told newspapers in England.

The forward’s brace against Liverpool left him just three goals behind leader Jamie Vardy in the division’s scoring charts.

“I give God all the glory for my goals and the victory,” he said.

“Last season I never set a target and this season I haven’t either.

“I will never set myself a target as then I put pressure on myself. I want to keep going game by game.

“When the team wins a game that is the most important.”

Kingsley Sokari enjoyed a winning debut with CS Sfaxien

by Samm Audu
It would have been a glorious start to his career in Tunisia had new signing Kingsley Sokari converted an 88th minute chance as CS Sfaxien beat CS Hammam-Lif 2-1 Wednesday in a 11th round league fixture.

After good hold up play by compatriot Junior Ajayi, Sokari was set up by his U23 team mate, but his shot from on top of the Hammam-Lif box was tame allowing the keeper to easily gather the effort.

Despite failing with that chance, it was an impressive debut for the former Enyimba lynchpin as he once again showed the qualities that have marked him out as one of Nigeria's fast rising stars.

His industry in the first half not only saw him propel the Sfaxien attack with crisp passes, but he also put in a good shift in midfield defensive duties.

His sliding tackle cut out a quick counter attacking move by the visitors in the 24th minute. It was a swift pass from the Sfaxien number 20 in the opponent's box that would eventually lead to Hassen Harbaoui being upended by the Hammam Lif keeper, resulting in the penalty that gave Sfaxien the first goal in first half added time.

Harbaoui will score the winner in the 68th minute from an assist by Ajayi, whose run on the left flank saw him shrug off the challenge of two Hammam Lif players, before he crossed for an easy tap in by the Sfaxien number 9.

But it was the combo of Ajayi and Sokari with two minutes to the end of the match that would have capped a great day for the Nigerian contingent had Sokari not dragged his shot too much into the ground, thereby losing steam.

Super Eagles Coaches Face Bleak Christmas Over Unpaid Salaries

By Richard Jideaka, Abuja:
The Super Eagles left camp for Christmas break on Wednesday with the coaches and officials wearing long faces following the inability of the Nigeria Football Federation to offset their salaries of several months.

Only last week, the Minister of Youth and Sports Solomon Dalung had appealed to the NFF to pay national teams coaches all their outstanding salaries and allowances to enable them to celebrate the Christmas happily with their families.

During the week, the coaches' hopes were raised with reports in the media that the NFF were set to offset all their allowances and salaries to the tune of N30 million.

Completesports can report that this did not happen as the NFF could not raise money to offset the debts owed the coaches of the Super Eagles, U-23 Eagles and those of the national women's Under-20 and U-17 teams including the backlog of other serving and former national teams coaches.

Coaches of senior national team who left for a three-day Christmas break grumbling over the non-fulfilling of the directive of the minister to pay them their salaries and allowances.

"We are going to see our families during this Christmas holiday without money," one of the coaches told Complete Sports. "It is so bad that we are being owed our salaries for months. It is all service to our fatherland, one will say, but if we don't deliver, we'll be fired.

"Well, they told us that we will be paid as soon as possible and we have no choice than to wait and see how it turns out."

Meanwhile, a number of the players and the foreign assistant coach stayed back in the camp in Abuja.

Efforts to reach the NFF General Secretary Sanusi Mohammed on the phone for confirmation proved abortive as he was reported to have travelled for the holidays.

Michael Babatunde Hints At MLS, Greece Move

By Johnny Edward:
Super Eagles winger Michael Babatunde has hinted he is in talks with some Major League Socc‎er teams over a possible move in January.

Babatunde who is now a free agent after terminating his contract with his Ukrainian side Dnipro last month also admitted he is frustrated over his unpaid wages at the club.

"Yes I have offers currently and I'm considering carefully my next move so I don't fall into the same fate I have with my past three teams," the Super Eagles World Cup star told Comple tesportsnigeria.com.

"There are concrete offers from teams in the USA but I don't want to mention the teams and in Greece as well. But it's early days yet and the window isn't officially open so I'm confident I'll move in a few of days‎.

"I'm being owed four months and it's been difficult but I just keep on for the love of the game‎."

Babatunde also predicted that the Home Eagles stand a massive chance of winning the African Nations Cup Championship in Rwanda next month.

"I have some friends in the team and they believe they can win the tournament with the coach( Oliseh) on the bench‎," he said.

If you are talking strickly about Nigerian Cities that can host the world cup, then we can go with Abuja, Cross River, Port Harcourt, Calabar, Kaduna, Kano, Uyo, etc. But if you want to go strickly with standard Stadiums and other football infrastructure, then I will just have to reserve my comment.

Goal Nigeria Player of the Year Nominee: Odion Ighalo

The Watford man is a shoo-in for the prestigious Goal NPOTY, and we explore exactly why.

By Solace Chukwu
There are a number of reasons why, without doubt, Odion Ighalohas been Nigeria’s standout footballer in 2015.

Bigger and better: Goal Nigeria Player of the Year 2015

We know the numbers: his debut season in the Premier League, widely believed to be the best in the world (no, we will not have this argument), has yielded 12 goals, and this before Christmas.

At this canter, he is on pace for 26 by the end of 2015/2016, a figure which would be a record for a Nigerian footballer in Europe’s top five leagues.

This is all the more remarkable because there is not much precedent of a player so prolific after promotion to the Premier League.

Jamie Vardy has been the toast of England, and rightly so in light of his record-setting scoring run. However, he only scored five times in 34 league appearances last term, and even though he laid on 10 assists, there was little seismic about his first season.

Ighalo, on the other hand, has
made his mark on both divisions with similar immediacy, almost blurring the lines between the English Championship, a division regarded as a muddy, unglamorous slog, and its glitzy, daintier stepsister. The former Udinese man has seduced both with equal fervour, leaving behind a trail of trembling knees and wanton carnage.

He scored 20 times in the English second tier, a vital return as Watford surged to the Premier League for the first time in eight years. After spending three years on loan in Spain with Granada, it was a statement: Ighalo was ready to put down roots.

His goals have been refreshingly diverse in type: from headers to rockets, hooked volleys to rounding the goalkeeper. His 25 goals in the calendar year is unmatched across all tiers of English football, and he is already the top scorer for the Hornets in a Premier League season.

Ighalo |The records just keep on falling
The one lingering doubt as to his quality was answered emphatically last weekend, as the 26-year-old delivered his first big performance against one of England’s traditional top-four sides, helping the Hornets to devastate Liverpool. His rap-sheet before the game was marked with some of the less fashionable sides in the English top-flight – Sunderland, Norwich, Newcastle, West Ham, Bournemouth, Swansea and Everton are hardly the cream of an admittedly blighted Premier League crop this season.

With the national team, Ighalo’s impact has been undeniably less explosive. Having taken to European football so naturally, one might have been forgiven for expecting an entrance of similar brashness. This has not been the case though, and already a few alarm bells have begun to sound in the minds of wary Nigerian fans.

In spite of that, he does have two international goals to his name in less than five starts. It has not been an inspired entry, but it has not been an unmitigated disaster either. It is also not uncommon to see a player struggle at international level; the world’s two best players, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, have at some point(s) in their career found it difficult to translate club form when donning national team colours.

It's surely only a matter of time until Ighalo begins to deliver for the Super Eagles...

It is also worth noting that 2015 has not been a great year by any metric for Nigeria in the international football arena.

Indeed, this brings into perfect focus one other reason why Ighalo is so clearly head and shoulders above the rest: the competition is not exactly fierce.

Perhaps only Moses Simon can match him, and the 20-year-old suffered a major downturn in form in the second half of the year, having powered Gent to history. While he has come into his own with the national team and grown into a central figure, Simon simply cannot match Ighalo for sheer volume.

To simply attribute his rise to a weak field would be a huge disservice to the Watford man though. Were he ahead by only a slight margin, one might be tempted to do just that. By so completely blowing everyone else out of the water, it is clear that while the rest of the field stands still, Ighalo has managed to find a new level. There really is no one more deserving of the Goal Nigeria Player of the Year award.

My Goals Against Liverpool Not Spectacular – Ighalo

Nigeria international Odion Ighalo has insisted there was nothing special about his brace for Watford against Liverpool at the weekend.

Ighalo has now fired 12 goals in the EPL, but he maintained there was nothing special about the goals against Liverpool.

“I thank God for giving me the grace to score two goals against Liverpool. I give him the glory. I see nothing special about scoring against Liverpool, it’s the same feeling for scoring goal and it doesn’t matter against which team,” Ighalo said.

The forward’s double against Liverpool left him just three goals behind leader Jamie Vardy in the division’s scoring charts.

It remains to be seen just how many goals he can finish his maiden Premier League campaign with, but the former Granada and Udinese ace is refusing to set himself any targets.

“I give God all the glory for my goals and the victory. Last season I never set a target and this season I haven’t either. I will never set myself a target as then I put pressure on myself. I want to keep going game by game. When the team wins a game that is the most important.”

Bosso hails CHAN Eagles friendlies

The friendly matches organised for the Super Eagles ahead of their campaign at the 2016 CAF Championship of African Nations will help the team, former Abia Warriors coach, Ladan Bosso, has said.

According to the Nigeria Football Federation, the Eagles will travel to Pretoria, South Africa on a training tour early in January ahead of the tournament in Rwanda. CHAN will hold between January 16 and February 7 in the East African country.

The Eagles will play Ivory Coast on January 9 while the date for the Angola clash has yet to be confirmed but the two matches will be played in the South Africa camp of the team. Nigeria is in Group C along with Niger Republic, Tunisia and Guinea.

Bosso, who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone, said the team needed the matches to be in shape for the tournament.

“Friendly matches are good for the preparations of any team,” he said.
“The Eagles began camping this month and would have become match rusty by the time the competition begins in January since the league has ended since November and they have hardly kicked a ball since then.

“The players invited for the competition are some of the best legs in the league as of today but that’s not all needed to build a team. The friendly matches will put the players in competition mood and also build team spirit in them rather than the team relying on individual brilliance.”

In short, all the Cities that hosted the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup should come first before others.

But wait ooo! That may take us several years to such infrastructure, the way South Africa did.

South Africa did a wonderful work, how I wish it was Nigeria.

AF Nigeria Nigeria Premier League 2015 Enugu Rangers
Oliseh undecided on U23 stars for Eagles

Nigeria U23 star Oghenekaro Etebo

Coach Sunday Oliseh has yet to give his approval for the invitation of U23 stars Oghenekaro Etebo and goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel to the Eagles training camp for CHAN, it has been gathered.

Etebo was top scorer at the U23 AFCON in Senegal with five goals, while Enugu Rangers goalkeeper Daniel also shone at the championship and they have subsequently been recommended for the country’s CHAN build-up on the back of their recent exploits.

However, Oliseh has yet to sanction their call-up, insisting with working the 26 players he has invited for next month’s championship in Rwanda.

“It’s only Oliseh who will decide on the two U23 stars and so far he has not done so,” a top source informed.

Even though he is still in his sick bed in Belgium, Oliseh has constantly kept in touch with the Eagles training camp, dishing out daily training schedules and other relevant instructions.
