not a bad match, i expected the match to be tough the way it panned out. for Christ sakes these Tunisian players are their national team players from CF SFAXIEN, ETOILE DU SAHEL and ESPERANCE , club sides that dominate African football in terms of Club football and past winners of both the CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE and CONFEDERATIONS CUP, so i would say we played well, though it was tough, with what Guinea played today against Niger, i see us easing past them come Tuesday. the Nigeriens overwhelmed me with their play today against the guineans, kudos to the niger, i prayed they draw with guinea and they did just that. making it easier for us to qualify to the quarters, though we need an outright win though a draw will see us through but playing for a draw should not be an option for us as guinea might just hit us late into the game to claim the 3 maximum points at stake giving them 5 points as against our 4 while Tunisia might just ease past Niger (though it might not work out that way) giving them 5 points too. meaning we re out, so guys lets go for a win against guinea to top the group with 7 points. we can do it. watch out

U are so on pt abt the strenght and composition of the Tunisian Team. The guys have won every Club continental title available in Africa.Plus a good number of them are their national team players. They were favorites goin into dat game. Oliseh himself said so, though most peeps saw it as a mind game.

Our performance at d last CAF U23 & this CHAN shows there is so much quality in our local league.
Jst as it is in North Africa and Europe where 2-4 clubs have most of d finances and d cluster of the best players, Nigerian clubs can rule Africa if that kind of structure is achieved.
The Nigerian league is such dat the gap btw the winner and bottom team is usually less than 10pts. The quality in d league is generally evenly distributed. That is y dey dnt do well at continental level. Look at our CHAN team for instance, there is hardly any NPFL club nt represented.
If these players are distributed amongst say 3 teams, d quality in each of those teams would b higher and dey will perform better on d continent.

Niger was expectedly no match for us bt in Tunisia we had a well drilled and experienced opposition.

Those saying the performance of the boys was awful or shameful should remember this is nt d main Super Eagles.

sir Icons i concur wholeheartedly with u, imagine these good players of ours distributed to only 3 NPFL clubs in the country we would have been winning continental trophies (both caf champs league and confederation cup titles). Tunisia a real test for us,but i was glad we came out with a point, the Guineans looked good against Tunisia but against Niger today they were found wanting, though they drew 2 goals apiece but they were a shadow of themselves, we should be able to beat them good and square come tuesday. Bod bless u bros

This team sure knows how to grind out results even when playing under-par.... *smiles*

They were disappointing today (Friday, 22nd)..... Yes.

The Tunisian team paraded close to 60-75% of their main national team stars..... Yes.

The Home-based Super Eagles can do far far better than this..... Yes.

But for what it's worth..... Shameful might have been their display.... But they earned some credits.

This is the Home-based Super Eagles (truthfully not even close to 7-11% of our main squad is here) coming up against teams who are parading players that can serve as their nations' Afcon-central squads and Chan squads at the same time.... Squads who represent these nations on the international stage.

Only the likes of Cote d'Ivoire, Cameroun and a very few others at the ongoing CHAN 2016 come close to sharing Nigeria's situation of fielding home-based stars who serve as "fringes" for the "main squad".

Kudos to Oliseh so far...... I trust he can do more.

As for the next game, WE'LL NOT LOSE TO THE SYLI NATIONALE OF GUINEA.

We're sure to beat them..... Or at the very worst get a draw. But I see a win for Nigeria... *smiles*

This team can go all the way..... I just pray the likes of Onobi, Matthew, Akas, Aggreh, Ibenegbu, Oboroakpo and Adeniji deem it "RIGHTLY-TIMED" to step up their games even more to support the good works being done by Chikatara, Ezenwa (the Goalie), Usman and Osas Okoro. They've been good in flashes..... But they need to hit top gear and enter "the zone".

All the best NIGERIA..... *smiles*

Hosts out to finish group stages on a high

Jacques Tuyisenge of Rwanda challenged by Franck Perrin Obambou of Gabon

Host nation Rwanda will be looking to make it three wins out of three when they take on Morocco in a Group A 2016 African Cup of Nations (CHAN) clash at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigalion Sunday.

The Amavubi booked their place in the knockout stages for the first time following wins over the Ivory Coast and Gabon in their opening two matches.

Being the host nation, Rwanda will be eager to go all the way, but know there is still a lot of football to be played.

Head coach Johnny McKinstry is not getting carried away and wants his team to go all out against the Atlas Lions as they aim to finish with the full compliment of points.

“It is good to keep the winning momentum and win the last group game against Morocco. It would also be nice to play our quarter final game at the Amahoro Stadium where we have played all our group matches,” said McKinstry.

A brace from Ernest Sugira guided the Amavubi to a 2-1 win over the Panthers last time out and McKinstry revealed that he urged his team to make sure of qualification for the next round before the Morocco game.

“I told them to go all out and get that important win instead of playing the last group game to determine our destiny,” he explained.

“We are working hard to make the people of Rwanda happy and we really appreciate their support,” he added.

A draw and defeat in their opening two fixtures leaves Morocco with a mountain to climb; a win might not be enough to secure them a place in the next round and they will also be reliant on what happens in the other group game.

Ivory Coast, who are favorite to progress alongside Rwanda, are facing Gabon at the same time in Butare.

The group runners-up will most likely face the Democratic Republic of Congo who, with seven goals in two games, have emerged as the bookies pick to go all the way.

Group A at the 2016 African Nations Championship was wrapped up on Sunday afternoon, with Ivory Coast joining tournament hosts Rwanda in advancing to the quarterfinals after they beat Gabon 4-1.

Amavubi stumbled to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Morocco, but their earlier wins – including one against the Elephants – ensured they finished at the top of the log and will face Group B’s runners-up (likely to be Cameroon or DR Congo) in Kigali on Saturday.

In Butare, Ivory Coast scored three goals in the second half against a Panthers team which put up a good fight for roughly an hour before being outclassed by Michel Dussuyer’s men.

In Kigali, Morocco overpowered the tournament hosts with a stunning first half showing in which they netted four goals, including a brace from the excellent Aziz Mouaoui.

The final standings saw Rwanda and Ivory Coats in six points each (with the hosts on top thanks to a superior head-to-head record), while Morocco were third on four points and Gabon finished with one point.

Group B will be wrapped up tomorrow with simultaneous games in Butare, where Cameroon take on DR Congo, and in Kigali, where Ethiopia battle Angola.

Four goals conceded in the first half by Rwanda saw Morocco cruise to victory in the teams' final Group A game of the first stage of CHAN 2016, but Rwanda still go through to the knockouts along with Ivory Coast.

Ivory Coast joined defeated Gabon 4-1 in Butare in the other Group game on Sunday afternoon and therefore go through with Rwanda to the quarterfinals.

As early as the 5th minute, Ernest Sugira made a good run on the right flank but no one picked up his pass, and Savio Nshuti's attempt was saved by Bourkadi.

Then, five minutes later, Sugira had another scoring chance, but Bourkadi saved it easily as Morocco also forced a good save from Kwizera on the other end.

In the 15th minute Morocco took the lead after Abdelghani Mouaoui picked up a through pass from Achchakir and drove a powerful shot past Olivier Kwizera in goals.

Morocco went into a 2-0 lead after 24 minutes when Aziz netted, but Ngomirakiza pulled one back for Rwanda three minutes later.

Seven minutes before the interval and Morocco went 3-1 ahead as Abdeladim Khadrouf reinstated Morocco's two-goal cushion. Then, with two minutes to the break, Aziz Mouaoui found the back of the net for the second time today to make it 4-1 at half time.

The second half started slowly and the goals dried up after the five scored in the opening half.

Chances on ether end were a lot less a feature for the first 20 minutes of the second stanza.

A few substitutions also failed to add spark to the game in the second half as Rwanda clearly played with one eye on the quarterfinals and never really put up a fight to avenge Morocco's first half dominance.

Ivory Coast joined tournament hosts Rwanda in advancing from Group A into the quarterfinals of the 2016 African Nations Championship after they defeated Gabon 4-1 in Butare on Sunday afternoon.
The Elephants finish the group stage on six points, level with Rwanda (who were beaten by Morocco in the other Group A match) but Amavubi claim top spot thanks to a superior head-to-head record after they beat the West Africans 1-0 in the tournament’s opening game.
Ivory Coast settled the quicker of the two teams and it was no surprise to see them take the lead in the 19th minute, with Essis Aka firing home a low shot from outside the penalty area to make it 1-0.
Gabon responded by withdrawing youngster Mario Mandrault, who struggled to get the better of the Elephants’ defenders, and replacing him with Allen Nono.
The Panthers made a second tactical change at the start of the second half, sending on Lionel Yackouya to replace Aaron Boupendza, and they soon looked a much more dangerous prospect.
In the 51st minute Gabon equalised through Franck Obambou, who got on the end of a corner kick from Knox Younga and found the back of the net with a powerful downward header.
Yet parity lasted less than a quarter hour, with Ivory Coast reclaiming the lead on 65 minutes. Djedje Guiza picked up a loose ball in the penalty area and beat Yves Moto with a powerful shot which burst through the goalkeeper’s hands.
The Elephants added to their advantage in the 77th and 84th minutes as Gabon’s spirits dropped, with substitutes Koffi Boua and Ble Treika both scoring well-executed goals to add some gloss to the score line.

Ivory Coast has a better goal difference so how come Rwanda gets to qualify as number one?

I think it's because Rwanda beat the Ivory Coast.

Head-to-head rule.

our players always plays for backwater leagues in Europe, while brazilian players strives to play for top clubs we settle for less, and what is this love for Turkish clubs by our players? its like anything with spor dem like am, kayrispor, Osmanlispor, Demirspor, Eskirsehirspor, adanaspor etc. no ambition. nothing. so sad
Of a truth Sir, most Nigerian internationals are in pretty good leagues and are also doing good if you ask me. Atleast Turkish league is by far more competitive and exposed than the Nigerian league. Besides most of these leagues are already preoccupied with good players or do you espect them to continue with the Nigerian league as far as these top Clubs do not come for them? 'Half Bread they say is better than non'
There are also several Brazilian players plying their trade in not too good leagues. Some have just been acquired by our very IfianyiUba Fc of Nigeria you know. gringrin

EXCLUSIVE: Nigeria hot-shot Chikatara joins Wydad Casablanca

Super Eagles sensation Chisom Chikatara has agreed to join Wydad Casablanca after the Moroccan side reached terms with Abia Warriors, with the deal only subject to medicals.

Isoccerng.com can exclusively report that Chikatara, who has bagged four goals for Nigeria at the on-going Championship for African Nations in Kigali had already agreed a move to the north African side before the tournament began.

However, the striker who is currently one of the most sought-after players in the continent owning to his recent exploits at CHAN later had a change of heart following interests from clubs in Europe and Wydad's arch-rivals Raja Casablanca, but decided to honour the initial agreement after Wydad threatened to drag the matter to FIFA, with Abia Warriors officials now in Morocco to finalise the deal.

Chikatara was named Man-of-the-Match after his brilliant hattrick performance in the home-based Super Eagles' 4-1 win against Niger Republic.

The Abia Warrior striker’s goal against Tunisia brought him level with South Africa’s Bernard Parker, the second highest goal scorer in the CHAN competition with four goals from the last competition in South Africa, and a goal away from equaling Zambia’s Given Singuluma who scored 5 goals enroute his nations 3rd place finish in the 2009 competition hosted by Ivory Coast, a feat Chisom has achieved in fewer games.

The Abia state indigene has the world at his feet right now, with the possibility of breaking and setting a new record within sights or even claiming the Most Valuable Player (MVP) crown from the current holder Ejike Uzoenyi.

The Eagles will clash with their West African opposite, Guinea in tomorrow’s last group game at the Stade Umuganda Rubavu, Gisenyi.

The Eagles lead the pack in Group C on four points, two points ahead of Guinea and Tunisia. The outcome of the group’s matches will determine qualifiers for the last eight.

No Bonus: Oliseh warns Eagles 'driving on empty tank'
[/size]

Nigerian Coach Sunday Oliseh

Nigeria coach Sunday Oliseh has raised alarm over the welfare of his players ahead of this afternoon’s CHAN Group C against Guinea, warning his team may “break down” as they are yet to be paid bonuses in Rwanda.

Oliseh made sure he did not mention that his team are owed bonuses and allowances, but implied this during a press briefing in Rwanda.

He said: “My players are working under extreme duress, it’s like driving a car with an empty tank,I won’t go into details. Let’s just hope we don’t break down.”

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have been hit by a serious cash crunch, which has meant they have not been able to meet up some of their financial obligations.

Nigeria need a point from today’s final group game against Guinea to qualify them for the quarterfinals against either Mali or Zambia.

Nigeria received a massive boost ahead of today’s CHAN Group C match against Guinea after both injury-hit Chisom Chikatara and Usman Mohammed trained fully with the rest of the squad on Monday.

Striker Chikatara is the leading scorer of the tournament with four goals, while midfielder Usman has emerged as a starter ahead of the more
experienced Bartholomew ‘Mosquito’ Ibenegbu.

“Both Chikatara and Usman trained with the rest of the team, they are fit,” disclosed a top team official.

Chikatara has not trained with the team so as to rest a muscle complaint, while Usman stretched his groin when he went in for a tackle against Tunisia.

Nigeria are top of Group C with four points and need just a point in this West African derby to advance to the last-eight of the CHAN.

Kick-off time is 3pm Nigerian time.

Cameroon beat the Democratic Republic of Congo 3-1 to advance into the knockout stages as 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) - Group B winners.

Man of the match Yazid Atouba, Ngamaleu and Samuel Nlend found the back of the net for the Indomitable Lions who were well deserved winners on the day.

Having made nine changes to the team that trumped Angola 4-2, it was always going to be difficult for The Leopards. Atouba handed Cameroon the lead at the break, but DR Congo equalised soon after the interval through Jean-Marc Mundele.

That was as good as it got for Florent Ibengé and his troops with two superb goals by Ngamaleu and Nlend taking the game away from the 2009 champions in Butare.

Over in Kigali; a brace from Manuel Ary Papel guided Angola to a 2-1 win over Ethiopia. For Palancas Negras the win was a mere consolation as they exited the competition alongside Ethiopia who still harboured knockout ambitious heading into the tie.

Seyoum Tesfaye scored the Walias only goal of the game.

Cameroon face Ivory Coast in the knockout stages while defeat for DRC books them a showdown against neighbours and competition hosts ,Rwanda, in the next round.

Both those games will take place on Saturday, 30 January.
