As a child I read a story about the monk and the nightingale (a singing bird). The monk took an oath of silence and had to wander into the thick forest to avoid any interaction with humanity. On a certain day he saw a nightingale with a broken wing. Being a monk, he took some pity for the poor bird and had to take it home (his little hut). He didn't even know that the bird could sing!

When the bird became well enough, he started making very melodious music for the monk. He couldn't believe his luck - he finally got the company he craved so much for. Now he was torn between keeping the bird (to continue keeping him company) and allowing it to fly to freedom. After pondering on this for a while, he decided to grant the bird its freedom (the fairer option). This made him very lonely and sad afterwards.

Then few years later, the monk became older, very ill and still very lonely. On a certain day, he heard this melodious and familiar sound somewhere in the surroundings...the music inched closer and closer...and just at his hut. Lo and behold it was the nightingale that had come back with its chicks (or whatever the young ones of nightingales are called). So it was more music, more company and happier moments for the old monk until his dying day.

According to the story book, the moral of the story is "If there is anything you really want so much, do not be afraid to let it go because if it is really yours...it will definitely come back to you.

Now, has this ever happened to you? Is there something you wanted so much, had to let go because of circumstances and it later came back to you?
