The Minister of Aviation, Mr. Osita Chidoka, has said that Wi-fi services will be made available in all the nation’s airports.
He said this during the inauguration of aviation tele-presence equipment at the ministry in Abuja on Tuesday.
In a statement by the Principal Information Officer for the ministry, Mr. Iyogun Sunday, Chidoka said, “Wi-fi services will be inaugurated in Lagos next week to enable passengers to log in with their computers and perform their transactions easily while in transit at the airports.
“This Wi-fi service will be available across all the airports of the nation; this would help to bring our airports services to global standard.”
He added that a robust aviation ministry was being handed over to the incoming administration, which would have to be built on.
The aviation tele-presence equipment is said to be geared towards improving the correspondences between the ministry‘s head office and the chief executive officers of parastatals under the ministry.
Chidoka, while inaugurating the equipment, said the ministry’s quest to leverage ICT and enhance delivery of effective and efficient necessitated the idea of tele-presence equipment.
He said, “The tele-presence device will allow the minister, permanent secretary, and directors of the ministry to sit in the comfort of their offices and hold meetings with the chief executives of the ministry’s agencies across the country, thereby reducing the rate of travelling for meetings.
“I hope that the next aviation minister will be ICT-compliant and continue with the project of building one aviation house that will improve efficiently the running of the industry.”
To demonstrate the operation of the tele-presence equipment, the minister was said to have held a brief meeting with the CEOs of the agencies and the Lagos office.
The chief executive officers of all the agencies reportedly expressed their readiness for the security audit coming up between June 1 and 9 2015 by International Civil Aviation Organisation with the Lagos office showing optimism that Nigeria would be successful.
