This $60b figure is piffling compared to Nigeria's GDP. If Nigeria's GDP is $500b, that barely 12% of GDP. America's debt ratio is nearing 100%. Japan's is 200%. Most EU countries, its over 60%. 12% is fantastic. Whats worrisome is the debt servicing cost. At 21% of the budget, thats quite a bit. Japan's is 20%. Though Japan's debt is 200% of GDP, Japan's government borrows at 1% interest rate while Nigeria's borrows at over 12%(I am not sure of the exact figure but its probably even higher) If the borrowing cost can be reduced to 5 or 6%, servicing may fall to about 10% of the budget which is more manageable. 1 Like |

pazienza: The number of likeness for this very clueless statement, indicates the level of ignorance of most Nigerians, powered by the high level of deceit and wicked propaganda of PDP government. No singular government can claim the credit for the size of an economy, but a government can claim the credit for the quality of an economy(economic development). Economic growth is a function of the population of a country and the resultant high traffic of economic activities,it has little to do with any deliberate economic wizardry of a government. Economic development is very much preferable to economic size.Nigeria's economy may be the biggest, but it is definitely not better than that of South Africa. Major indicators of economic development include, but are not limited to: 1.Per Capita Income =GDP/Total Population (Economic size only considers GDP) 2.Interest rate 3.Rate of inflation 4.Standard of living 5.Level of literacy 6.Purchasing power of citizenry 7.Currency exchange rate 8.Poverty rate 9.Level of infrastructure 10.Social security 11.Public debt profile ETC. Now based on the following indicators, how would you rate the economy of Nigeria under 16 years of pDP government? 1 Like |

It's becoming clear that the incoming government are ill prepared for the challenges that comes with governing this great nation. This was clearly obvious during the election campaign where their so called manifesto was void of anything meaningful (i still cant stop laughing at Pastor Osibanjo's proposed reforms in the power sector), yet a considerable number of Nigerians bought up all of APC's propaganda and voted out the better man. All along, their sole purpose was grabbing power. Now that theyve got it, all we hear are excuses upon excuses upon more excuses. This is totally unlike the GEJ's administration were the president hardly offered excuses, yet OUTPERFORMED his predecessors. So dear Nigerians, welcome to the #OneChance bus. 2 Likes |

I'm not surprised it's coming from Osinbajo who thinks theory and practical are same. Anyway he has turned himself to an alarmists, it has always being the style of APC right from its formation. Expect more alarm and reasons why they wouldn't be able to change nothing. God help Nigeria. |

Every new Nigerian Government have one thing in common. Complaints and accusations on the government they are taking over from. Just consider this: 1. Ironsi and team inherited a fragmented nation after the first coup. The coup was hinged on corruption allegations on the politicians. 2. Gowon and co were no better. They accused the Ironsi government of nepotism, tribalism, division, etc 3. Mulrtala/Obasanjo regime overthrew Gowon on account of corruption, incompetence, lack of vision, no plan to return the nation to democracy. 4. Shagari and co accused the military of pillaging the economy. The case of missing $2.8biilion comes to mind. 5. Buhari accused the politicians of destroying the economy. The regime three about 90% of the politicians into prison. Buhari regim was overthrown for high handedness and for running the economy aground by IBB. The days of counter-trade comes to mind. 6. IBB - Abacha, destroyed the economy was the song of the OBJ administration from 1999 to 2007. Thereafter, they resorted to vocabulary like "nascent democracy". For eight years PDP blamed their failure on the military they took over from. 7. Yaradua and GEJ register had noone to blame since they are from same PDP as the Obj regime. However, they had Niger-Delta militants to contend with initially. No sooner have they sorted out the Niger-Delta crisis, then came Boko Haram. An ordinarily police action against a rag-tag militant group soon snowballed into a full scale war. Thus is still ongoing. As it is today, Buhari will inherit the crisis. 8.Buhari administration has followed up with the same old story of blaming past regime. It remained a vicious Nigerian phenomenon of anticipating failure. Truth is that APC and Buhari knew that a mono-product economy nation saddled with prosecuting a five year war, falling oil prices, oil thieves, corruption, pipeline vandalism and highly unproductive population cannot expect to have anything other than debts. I am not sure Osinbajo was expecting anything else. If he was, then he was never prepared for the job. He and his boss have an option now to either throw in the towel or wake up and smell the coffee. All Buhari promises must be fulfilled. Noone forced them to promise a UTOPIA nation. All I can say to them is "GOODLUCK". |
