There is obviously something wrong with our system. We are still running a system of kings and subjects, masters and slaves not democracy yet. Look at it this way. A former governor who has been elected as a senator like Saraki or Lafiagi will be collecting pension and generous packages every few years. Meanwhile as a senator he is still collecting salary and allowances. Four years ago when he was elected senator they bought cars for each of them in addition to a new car from the state every 2 years. Now Buhari is setting aside another 9bn to provide another allowance and cars for the same set of people. Meanwhile a civil servant still has problem to access his only single source of emolument and for over 90 percent that are not on government payroll their fate is to pay the tax for the few kings and princes to spend. If he also retires from the senate he will be collecting pension too. And in the future if such a former governor becomes minister he will still be drawing salary. So what is just in one man having access to three sources of money in the same nation where some people are just trying to maintain their sanity due to extreme poverty. This is where our trouble is and nothing is going to change, no progress will be recorded until we change this corruption-riddles and self-serving system.
