Good day house, please I need clarification from people who are already there (in Aussie). I studied Bsc Accounting here and finished with 2:1, scored 8.0 in IELTS and also, I've been offered PQP at PIBT as a pathway to Masters in Professional Accounting at ECU. I'm scheduled to start next year. Recently, my contact there called and advised that I rather apply for Bachelors degree in Nursing Science at ECU. I've done so and I've been offered admission, he said I may not get PR even if I'm CPA qualified. Please compatriots, enlighten me as I'm a bit skeptical about the Nursing thing, a fresh start and my love for accounting. Please endeavor to explain the consequence(s) of each my options. Thanks. |

Great people of the house... I greet you all Please, I am lodging my visa online and they are asking for an evidence of Genuine Temporary Entrant Requirement as a supporting document?. I have read about it but I am not so sure I understand what it means. Is it a letter I would have to get from my school? or i'd just attach some random files showing financial capacity, English language etc. 2. Then again, I am also to write a letter statement for GTE (2000 characters) - is it the same as a statement of purpose? 3. Since I haven't secured accommodation yet, while filling the visa form, is it ideal to leave it blank? 4. I read somewhere about police report. I'm I to get one? 5. Talking about CVs, Is there a particular format for CV I should use? I read somewhere on the thread that there is an Australian format of writing CVs. Muchas Gracias.... as I await your response. |

onyemamuoc: Yes it is very possible and easy when you get here. Note that Newcastle uni only have February intake for nursing. Since your resumption date is July they might want you to stay in Nigeria till next year. I suggest that you should arrive onshore b4 talking the next step. I'm currently studying nursing in newcastle uni and I also changed my program from masters to nursing. Get back to me if you need more help. I'm happy to assist 1 Like |

POTUSUK:I can't say for sure if it's easy getting an AU license but I know that there r different classes of licenses with crazy restrictions n monitoring. There is the L, P1, P2 & C! You must take some driving lessons, fill logs n then some exams. The most independent license here I think is the C, but for the rest there r speed restrictions, second, third n even fourth party monitoring. Google to get a better insight |

jorgan: Mates not all this information is correct. I've stayed in newcastle for almost 2 years now and I got my first job the second third day I arrived. And I have a lot of people that started their first job the same day they got to Australia. |

ayobamiakinrind: Why would anybody give misinformed advice? Why did your contact discourage you from studying your preferred course? Yes, it is easy to get a job in nursing as it is in demand but that should not be the reason to study such a course especially as it relates with dealing with lives. There must be passion for any course in medical profession. A time will come when you lose motivation in money but the passion for it will keep you going. Many people who entered the profession have had their licenses suspended because of errors which is as a result of no passion. Please always ask for reasons why people give advice. If it is accounting your interest lies, by all means pursue it. There are as many opportunities for accountants as there are for nurses. What you need is how to effectively package yourself to attract employers. If you have such a good score in English, shy not apply for PR straight? The money you will spend processing your PR is not half of what you pay in school fees. You can get your PR before your school resumption next year. How many years of experience do you have in accounting and are you CPA qualified? 3 Likes |

My advise to the newly arrived students and those that will arrive in the nearest future is to try and make yourself employable. I understand that a few people have been lucky to secure a P/T or casual job without taking any short courses, but there are some jobs you can't get without taking necessary courses. I would suggest that you do your research even before leaving Nigeria. Make a decision on the kind of casual job you would like to do and as soon as you arrive, enroll on the required short course for your preferred job. Overall, y'all need to have plans. Don't just jump on that plane without having plans. 4 Likes 1 Share |

bellong: @Bellong you have spoken well We don't have to be too desperate about this Aussie thing; a billionaire once told my brother that, they prefer employing the Indians to Nigerians in abroad generally because the Indians work with passion while Nigerians are after making money. I see no reason why one would want to put an end to the career he has been building since kindergarten days and rush into another one just to get a PR. Who said Nigeria will not be great again or you won't have cause to move to another country in future or come back home and set up your own audit firm. Please, let's all have a plan. 3 Likes |
