Celebrities across the world are known to have some elements of controversies and Nigerian celebrities aren’t an exception as they tend to find themselves in one controversy or the other. Some controversies are intentional while some just happen.

Here’s a list of controversial Nigerian celebrities as of today.

9. D’banj

Acknowledged by many as perhaps, the most successful Nigerian artist, Dbanj rolls with widely known international entertainment bodies… the likes of Snoop Dogg, Jay Z, Beyonce, Kanye West, et al. It had been rumored some time ago that he had an affair with one of Nollywood’s beauties, Genevieve Nnaji.

The major controversy about him is his parting from Mo-hits crew and godfather, Don Jazzy. His fans have also speculated if he’s a member of the Illuminati sect (with over 226,000 search results on Google) or not.

8. 2Face Idibia

The ‘African Queen’ star, 2Face had to be on our list due to his adventures with a number of women who end up being his babies’ mamas, and as such, many Nigerians have tagged him “Father of many nations”.

He once revealed that it was owing to his calm nature, that’s why the various women were able to hold such claims to him. Perhaps true… but at least, he didn’t deny the claims. Nevertheless, it has been asked why he had so many women at the same time.

7. Jim Iyke

Nollywood’s “bad boy” has had his own share of controversies. From scamming a certain woman called Hajia Habiba, to being fastened-to his theatrical break-up with his old Jamaican girlfriend, Keturah, one can conclude that Jim seems to always be in bed with controversies

Not long ago, Jim was “allegedly” delivered from evil spirits at Prophet TB Joshua’s SCOAN. He was also in the centre of a controversial marriage proposal to his girlfriend, Nadia Buari. However, it is believed in many circles that the proposal was merely a hoax, so as to gather more viewership for his reality show, “Jim Iyke Unscripted”.

6. Solomom Akiyesi

Solomon Akiyesi, popularly known as the “Serial Husband” is a man many ladies would not want to meet. In 2013, Nigerians were appalled when the supposed wedding of the Nollywood actor, Mr. Solomon Akiyesi, to one Ms Uloma Agwu, became a widespread scandal. This is as a result of Solomon leaving his real wife (Lilian) in Port Harcourt

Lilian got to know of his schemes, and flew all the way down to Lagos alongside with her friends and family creating an unpleasant scene at the church (Overcomer’s World reaching in Aguda, Surulere) where the marriage ceremony was holding. It took the involvement of policemen to restore peace and calm.

5. Denrele Edun

Of course, the list is incomplete without Charley Boy’s partner in ‘publicity’. Denrele gleefully calls himself & ‘were ile’ ;- a Yoruba expression that rhythmically rhymes along with his first name to mean ‘the mad man of the house’.

Faithful to his claims, he doesn’t cease to shock Nigerians with his derelict appearances that borders around lunacy and gayness. He calls it ‘branding’, however some Nigerians finds his bleached face repulsive.

4. AfroCandy
Judith Opara Mazagwu, popularly called AfroCandy is a Nigeria’ premier soft-adult movie actress, who always creates a scene wherever she goes! Afrocandy came into public awareness, when she dropped her semi-adult movie, “Destructive Instinct”.

The mother of two is notorious for always exposing her body publicly. She has also had several altercations with other celebrities. She made some headlines some time ago, when she took to her social media pages to solicit for funds for her daughter’s college fees. This was bewildering to many, as they wondered why she cannot afford her daughter’s college fees with all the money she earned from the semi-adult movies she has released.

3. Charly Boy

Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, currently sixty four (he was born in 1951), is certainly a candidate on our list. Think earrings, body rings, tattoos and bikes; that is Charly Boy.

It is believed by many that his kind of lifestyle is occultist. With the exception of his ‘Big Bottom’ track that was once denied airplay by some Nigerian radio stations owing to overtly obscene lyrics, his most controversial act was in 2010 when he was interviewed by E 24-7 magazine together with eccentric Channel O presenter, Denrele.

The article, that was captioned ‘Yes, I Love Denrele’ featured images that saw the duo in a variety of suggestive poses including what looked like a loving kiss.

2. Dencia

This sassy lady is presumably infatuated with herself. One of the most popular Nigerian celebrities, Dencia has hit international spot light. She made waves when she introduced her $160 per bottle bleaching cream, called Whitenicious, into the market. The cream has sparked lots of controversies around Dencia.

A lot of people have lambasted her for not being content with her natural skin color. She has been interviewed by various international media houses because of the cream. Not quite long, she had some clash with Oscar Winner, Lupita Nyoongo’o. This is due to the fact that Lupita made some chide remarks about Dencia’s Whitenicious during one of her speeches.

Depite the controversy, Dencia is a successful business woman and lives in a luxurious mansion in California, U.S

1. Tonto Dikeh
Better known as “Poko”, she is perhaps the queen of controversy. If she’s not throwing shades her colleagues particularly Mercy Johnson, she is stamping a brand new tattoo on her skin. Tonto persistently wants to be under the media radar.

Asides being an actress, she is a singer, however a lot of people are of the opinion that Tonto should stay put in her acting career, because, she isn’t an exquisite singer. Not quite long, Tonto shocked her fans when she alleged that she wanted to commit suicide.

She recently had a brawl online with a luxury shopper over some unpaid fashion items Tonto bought and allegedly refused to pay for.
